This manual has been written to guide you through the operation of the DS7060 control panel. It has been written in language that is easy to understand and if you follow some simple guidelines, you will get the most out of your system and will not be bothered by annoying false alarms. If you have any questions about this manual, please contact your alarm installing company who will be pleased to assist. Industry statistics show that 95% of alarms are caused by incorrect operation. Please take the time to become familiar with your system by reading this manual. Some information contained in this manual is confidential.

WHAT IS A SECURITY SYSTEM?
An alarm system is made up of a number of sensing devices (sensors) that are wired back to a control panel. A keypad, which is usually placed near one or more entry doors is also connected to the control panel. The keypad is used to turn the system on and off and also for other functions like testing the system. Usually, if access permits, the control panel and wiring are concealed in a cupboard. The control panel is connected to the mains power using a low voltage transformer. This transformer should never be turned off.
The control panel also has its own backup battery which is a rechargeable type. This backup battery will supply power to the system in case of mains failure. It should be replaced every three to five years.
The number and type of sensors in your system will vary depending on your needs or your budget. Door and window switches may be placed on doors or windows to detect opening and motion sensors may be installed in rooms requiring protection or in an area where an intruder is likely to move. Bear in mind that these sensors cannot see through walls or other obstructions. Your installer will position these sensors depending on wiring access and your needs.
Some sensors are designed to detect glass breaking, others vibration. In addition, smoke sensors may be installed to provide early warning of a fire. These may be battery operated or preferably hard wired into your security system. In all cases, these devices cannot guarantee complete protection against injury or loss in the event of a fire or burglary.
Usually your security system is also connected to a telephone line. Your security system transmits alarms and other messages through your telephone line to a monitoring centre. On receiving an alarm, the monitoring centre carries out your instructions such as contacting the police or a patrol service. In addition, your system will usually be equipped with sirens, bells and or a strobe light. These are designed to warn you in case of fire or intrusion and as a deterrent to a burglar. Noise regulations vary from state to state but in most cases require that after an alarm, sounders must turn off within a preset time, usually around five minutes. Your installer will advise you about these requirements.

THE KEYPAD
Your keypad is used by you to operate your system. It also tells you the status of the system, i.e. whether the system is ready to arm, its armed state, the condition of the battery, the mains supply and even the telephone line. Usually it is placed near an entry/ exit door for your convenience. Up to four keypads may be installed with the system. If you feel that it would be more convenient to have additional keypads, tell your installer before he begins installing your system. The keypad has several lights or LEDs that indicate various condi­tions. Use the following chart to see what each one means.
ARMED (red) ON The system is armed (ON)
OFF The system is disarmed (OFF). FLASHING You are in exit delay time or an alarm has occurred.
STATUS (green) ON Zones are ready to arm.
OFF One or more zones are not ready to arm. FLASHING One or more zones are bypassed.
POWER (green) ON Normal operation.
OFF Panel has lost AC power or has a battery problem. FLASHING System has a fault condition such as comms failure.
FIRE (red) OFF There are no fire alarms.
FLASHING There is a fire alarm. ON There is a wiring fault to a smoke sensor.
Zone LEDS 1 to 6 (red) OFF No zone alarms and all zones are ready to arm.
ON- A zone is not ready to arm or if a fire zone, has a
fault condition
FLASHING A zone is currently in alarm condition.
There are also twenty-one keys on your keypad. The 0 to 9 keys are used to enter your personal identification number (PIN). Other keys such as ON, OFF, Perimeter Only, No Entry, Bypass and System Reset are used to select your command, once you have entered your PIN. There can be up to 15 PINs used in your system including a temporary or guest code and a duress code. In a residential system, operation will be simplified as you will not need a PIN for most functions. Each PIN is always four digits in length. The system is already programmed for user 1 code as 1234. It is important that you change user 1 PIN to another number. This protects both you and the installer. Never use common sequences like 1111, or 2468 as an intruder may try these numbers to disarm the system.

ADDING A PIN
User code 1 is used to add or delete a PIN. It is also used to change the factory setting for PIN 1 of 1234. For programming purposes, user PINs are numbered from 001 to 015.
Step 1 Enter user code 1 and press # and 0 e.g. 1 2 3 4 # 0 Step 2 Enter the PIN you wish to add e.g. 0 0 2 (for user PIN 2) Step 3 Enter any four digits e.g. 9 2 6 5 Step 4 Enter the same four digits again followed by # e.g. 9 2 6 5 #
The system will give a long beep to indicate the code was accepted. If the system gives a series of short beeps, it indicates that either the code number is already in
use or an error was made entering the digits the second time. Step 5 Repeat Step 2 to 4 to add additional PINs. Step 6 Press and hold the * key to exit from program mode.
DELETING A PIN
To delete a PIN, follow step 1 and 2 but press # without entering a PIN number. Press and hold the * key to exit from program mode.
TURNING THE SYSTEM ON (ARMING)
There are several different ways to arm the system and you may choose any of them de­pending on whether you are arming and leaving the premises, arming part of the system and staying on the premises etc.
These are described as follows:
NORMAL ARMING arms the entire system. PERIMETER ARMING arms part of your system but does not arm
some interior sensors. PERIMETER INSTANT ARMING is like PERIMETER ARM-
ING but also removes the entry delay timer. MAXIMUM SECURITY ARMING arms all sensors and removes
entry delay. n.b. you will not have any entry delay with this type of arming so it would not be used unless you had access to a keypad with­out needing to trip a perimeter entry or internal sensor.
Select which arming type you require and follow the following steps: In residential systems, use the # key instead of your four digit PIN number.

***TURNING THE SYSTEM OFF (DISARMING)***
You must use a valid user code in the disarm process.
To turn the system off, enter through the designated path
and enter your PIN and press OFF.
Your installer will have consulted you about the length of various timers in the system such as entry delay, exit delay, sounder timer and any reporting delay.
You must exit and enter premises through the designated entry paths within the speci­fied entry times or an alarm will occur.
On entry, the keypad will emit a steady tone until you disarm.
If an alarm has occurred during the armed period, the keypad will beep during entry delay.

FORCE ARMING
Sometimes it may be more convenient to arm the system prior to closing your exit door. In some cases, you may also have a motion sensor covering the area where the keypad is installed. In cases such as these your installer can program the system to enable you to arm the system with these zones faulted. But remember, the sensor must reset and the door closed and locked before the exit time expires. If the sensor does not reset before the exit time expires, the zone will be bypassed. Bypassed means that the sensor cannot activate the alarm.
If force arming is enabled, simply enter your user PIN and press ON.

EASY EXIT
At times you may be on the premises with the system armed in Perimeter Only mode and you may wish to fully arm the system. Our unique EASY EXIT function allows you to go from Perimeter Only status to fully armed, simply by entering a PIN and pressing the ON key. When you do this, the exit delay time will restart to allow you to exit the premises. You do not need to disarm and then arm.
With EASY EXIT enabled by your installer:
When armed, press # and ON and the system will restart the exit delay to enable you to exit the premises.

AUTOMATIC ARMING
Automatic Arming allows the system to automatically arm itself at a time you select. You may select one arming time for weekdays and one for weekends. If programmed, the sys­tem will provide audible warnings, starting 15 minutes before Auto Arm occurs. During the pre-arm warning, you may extend the Auto Arm by 30 minutes by entering your PIN + Off. Once armed, the system will disarm only when a PIN + Off is entered from the keypad.
To set the Automatic Arming time :
Enter your MASTER PIN followed by # 0 and 1.
The display will start with entry for weekdays. Enter the desired arming time in a 4 digit format followed by #. Examples: 1:00 AM = 0100, 1:00 PM = 1300, Midnight = 2400. If no Auto Arm time is desired for weekdays, enter 0000. After entering the weekday Auto Arm time, pressing # will advance the display to weekend auto arming time.

To delay the Automatic Arm time :
Enter your PIN followed by the # key and 99. Enter the number of hours, from the current time, when you want the system to Auto Arm. For example: If it is 3:30 now and you want the system to Auto Arm at 9:30, enter 06.
BYPASSING ZONES
There may be times when you need to temporarily remove or bypass a zone from the sys­tem. Bypassing can only be done when the system is disarmed. For instance, you may wish to keep a door or window open that is protected by a switch but still have the rest of the system armed.

To bypass a zone :
When disarmed, enter your PIN, press the BYPASS key and the zone number that you wish to bypass. Repeat this process for any additional zones that you wish to bypass. Now arm the system. Bypasses are automatically removed when the system is disarmed.
If you bypassed a zone in error, enter your PIN, press the BYPASS key and the zone number you wish to remove the bypass.
To display bypassed zones :
Enter your PIN and press the BYPASS key. Any bypassed zones will be displayed.
To clear all bypasses :
Enter your PIN and press the BYPASS and the * key. All bypasses will be removed.
DURESS
A duress code is used when someone is threatening you and forces you to disarm the sys­tem. When used, the duress function will disarm the system but send a silent duress report to the monitoring centre. User code 14 can be configured as a duress code by your installer. User code 14 (duress code) cannot be used to arm the system and can only be used when the system is armed.

Enter user PIN 14 and press OFF (PIN 14 must already be programmed before use).

CHIME MODE
Chime mode causes the keypad sounder to beep for two seconds each time an entry/exit zone or perimeter zone is violated when the system is disarmed. This is useful as a door warning system. Your installation company determines which zones will chime.
To enable and disable Chime mode :
Enter your PIN followed by # 7
SET THE TIME
Setting the time allows functions such as Automatic Arming and History to operate prop­erly.
To set the time :
Requires a DS7447 LCD keypad. Enter your PIN followed by # 0 and 6
The keypad will display “Enter Day”. Enter the day of the week with 1 being Sunday and 7 being Saturday.
The keypad will then display “Enter Time”. Enter the time (hours and minutes) between 0100 and 1259.
The keypad will then display “Enter AM/PM”. Enter a 4and # for AM or 6 and # for PM. A long beep from the keypad will signify acceptance of the time.
To check the time : Enter your PIN followed by the # 0 and 6.
SET THE DATE
Setting the time allows functions such as Automatic Arming and History to operate prop­erly.
To set the date :
Requires a DS7447 LCD keypad. Enter your PIN followed by # 0 and 2
The keypad will display “Enter Month”. Enter the month of the year with 01 being January and 12 being December.
The keypad will then display “Enter Day”. Enter the day of the month between 01 and 31.
The keypad will then display “Enter Year”. Enter the last 2 digits of the current year fol­lowed by the # key. A long beep from the keypad will signify acceptance of the date.
To check the date : Enter your PIN followed by the # 0 and 2.

ZONE TEST
Zone test enables you to test each zone for correct operation. This ensures that when a sensor is violated, the control panel will respond. Zones programmed as 24 hour zones (such as panic buttons) and also fire zones cannot be tested using this procedure.
To carry out a zone test :
Enter your PIN followed by # 8 1
The zone lights for non 24 hour and non fire zones will flash. Walk past each motion sensor and open protected doors and windows. As each one is activated, you will hear a beep from the keypad and its zone light will extinguish. Ensure that all zone lights are extinguished before exiting test mode.
To exit test mode :
Enter your PIN followed by the # key.
SOUNDER TEST
This test enables you to test that your sounders are working and that the battery is ready to take over during a mains failure. Exercise discretion in its use so as not to annoy your neighbours.
To do a sounder test :
Enter your PIN followed by # 8 5
The sounders connected to your system and the keypad sounder will operate for two sec­onds. The battery will be tested (under load) during this test and if a fault occurs it will be indicated by a control trouble condition.
EVENT HISTORY
The system will remember the last 20 events in its event history. This enables you to view, by time and date, what events have taken place.
To view event history :
Requires a DS7447 LCD keypad
Enter your PIN followed by # 8 9
The most recent event will be displayed on the keypad display. Pressing the # key will then display the time and date of the event. To scroll back through the events continue to press the # key. You may rapidly view the events (without the time and date information) by pressing the 9 key to scroll back in time and the 6 key to move forward to the most recent event.

COMMUNICATIONS TEST
This test is only applicable if your system is connected to a monitoring centre and has the test function enabled. A long beep will initially be heard from the keypad to acknowledge the start of the test. If the test is successful, a long beep will be heard from the keypad. If the test fails, the keypad will sound continuously. To silence it, enter your PIN and press #.
To perform a Communications test :
Enter your PIN followed by # 8 2
This test may take several minutes to complete due to telephone system congestion.
If it fails, it will retry in 30 minutes and if it fails again, will automatically conduct the test 24 hours later.
If the test does fail, contact your alarm service company.

FIRE ALARMS
Should a fire occur in your premises and be detected by the smoke sensors, your siren will sound and the system will (if programmed) send a fire report to the monitoring centre.
If a fire alarm does occur, exit the premises immediately. If you are sure that there is no fire present, you may silence the sounders by entering a user PIN and pressing the OFF key. To clear the fire alarm completely, you need to do a system reset. Normally this will be done after your have silenced the alarm and determined which sensor caused the alarm. This will allow your alarm service company to quickly remedy the faulty sensor.
To silence the sounders after a fire alarm :
Enter your PIN followed by the OFF key.
This will silence the sounders. Determine which sensor caused the alarm by looking for a sensor with its red light ON. After you have located and recorded the faulty sensor you need to do a system reset which will power the sensor down temporarily and allow it to reset.
To reset a smoke sensor :
Enter your PIN followed by the SYSTEM RESET key.

CONTROL PANEL TROUBLE CONDITIONS
Your system constantly monitors several functions and will warn you if any problems occur. It does this by flashing the POWER light. If the POWER light is flashing you can cause the panel to display the respective trouble condition using a command and watching the zone lights. Each zone light will indicate a different condition. Use the table below to determine the trouble condition.
If the POWER light is flashing in disarm mode : enter your PIN followed by # 8 7
If Zone 1 light illuminates you have a MAINS FAILURE
Ensure that the transformer is connected at the mains outlet and switched on.
If Zone 2 light illuminates you have a BATTERY PROBLEM
If the system has had a recent power failure, wait several hours and then per­form a battery test.
If Zone 3 light illuminates you have a COMMUNICATOR ERROR
The communicator has had difficulty or failed to connect to the monitoring centre when attempting to transmit an alarm or other event.
If Zone 4 light illuminates you have a SYSTEM FAULT
This indicates an internal error in the system. This may be caused by power surges. If the problem persists consult your alarm company.
If Zone 5 light illuminates you have a KEYPAD FAULT
One of the keypads (if fitted) is not responding to the control panel.
If Zone 6 light illuminates you have a ALARM FUSE FAULT
A short circuit to part of the system auxiliary power has occurred.
GUEST CODE
User PIN 15 may be programmed as a guest or temporary code. This allows you to give a tradesman or other person access to your premises for a limited time. Once enabled, the guest code will be valid until a normal code is used to disarm the system.

To enable user code 15 as a guest code :
Program the code as per the section titled “ADDING A PIN”
Exit from this mode.
Then, enter your master code ( PIN 1) followed by # 8 4
The guest code will now be valid until a normal code is used to disarm the system.
ALARM SOUNDS
You alarm installer may have programmed different sounds for different types of alarm events. For example, a burglary alarm may be a constant warbling sound while a fire alarm may turn the sounder on and off. It is important that you familiarise yourself and other

occupants of the premises about these sounds so that you will be ready to respond appro­priately. You should develop a response plan BEFORE any alarms occur. You should seek the advice of your alarm company as they install the system. If there is any threat or danger to yourself or others on the premises, such as in the event of a fire alarm, everyone should be instructed to leave the premises immediately. Do not enter the premises unless accompa­nied by the appropriate Emergency Services personnel or after they have given the OK to enter.

SPECIAL EMERGENCY KEYS
The bottom three keys on the lower left of the keypad may be used to manually summon assistance in the event of an emergency or panic situation. Ask your installing company if they have programmed these keys and familiarise yourself with their use.
To activate an alarm using these keys, they must be held down for two seconds.
This is designed to eliminate or minimise false activations. The lower left key is the only key that can be designated as a manual fire alarm. The other keys may be labelled as Special emergency or panic keys and there are options as to whether these will sound the sirens and/ or communicate with the monitoring centre. Consult your installer about these prior to installation.
Special care should be exercised when using these keys as false alarms are inconven­ient and costly to the responding authorities. In some states, fines are levied for per­sistent false alarms from premises.

VERIFIED SMOKE ALARMS
Your smoke sensor zones may be programmed for VERIFIED FIRE ALARM. This is a method that is designed to minimise false alarms. If your smoke sensors have been pro­grammed for verified fire, once activated they will be powered down for 15 seconds. Once re-powered, if they activate again an alarm will be signalled immediately. In addition, if any

other zones programmed as fire are activated, an immediate alarm is signalled. If there are no new alarms for two minutes following a power restoral, no action is taken.
Are fire sensors programmed for verified fire alarm operation?. YES NO
DELAY BEFORE COMMUNICATING
In order to minimise nuisance calls to the monitoring centre, a delay of 15 seconds may be programmed to allow you to cancel an alarm before it is transmitted to the monitoring centre.

KEYPAD SOUNDS
To warn you that the exit delay timer is about to expire, your installer may program the keypads to emit a beep every five seconds during exit delay. At 10 seconds and at 5 seconds before the exit delay timer expires, the keypad will emit three short beeps. Ensure that you have exited the premises and closed and locked the exit door before the timer expires.

During ENTRY DELAY TIME, the keypad sounder will emit a steady tone. If an alarm has occurred while the system has been armed, the keypad will beep instead to warn you that an alarm has occurred.
OPEN AND CLOSING REPORTS
When you arm or disarm the system with a valid user code, the system may be programmed to transmit a report to the monitoring centre. This report will contain the user number and whether that user number armed or disarmed the system. This report is not usually used in residential applications but may be used in commercial applications to provide an audit trail of users.

From time to time it may be necessary for the alarm service company to connect to your system to enable “electronic service calls” to be carried out. This method may be used to add or delete a user code on your behalf and for other functions.
