Description

Use the Semtronics Static Locator to locate items in the
work area that are able of generating potentially harmful
electrostatic charges. Per ESD Handbook TR20.20 2.4 "It
should be understood that any object, item, material or
person could be a source of static electricity in the work
environment. Removal of unnecessary nonconductors,
replacing nonconductive materials with dissipative or
conductive materials and grounding all conductors are the
principle methods of controlling static electricity in the
workplace, regardless of activity."

Per ANSI/ESD S20.20 Paragraph 6.2.3.2. Protected Areas
Guidance "All process essential insulators that have
electrostatic fields that exceed 2,000 volts should be kept at
a minimum distance of 12 inches from ESDS items."

Caution

• Do not handle it roughly.

• Do not use the unit in ways for which it is not designed.

• Do not disassemble the unit. This may result in damage
to the unit.

• This unit is sensitive to water. The unit cannot be used in
areas of steam or water.

• Do not use this unit in areas of high vibration, shock,
hazardous gas, flammable gas or other dangerous
environments.

• This could result in fire, shock, failure or other problems.

1. Measure Electrostatic Charge

• High charged materials will show no charge if there has
been no contact and separation for some time.
Electrostatic charges will normally be reduced over time
in most environments as natural ions are attracted to the
opposite charge thus neutralizing the charge. So in
normal use, the item being tested by the Static Locator
should be rubbed first, then tested.

2. Using the Static Blow Gun (sold separately)

• Attach the Static Locator to the Ion Gun and its power
will automatically run off the Ion Gun. Ensure the power
switch is in the ON position. There is a measured
accuracy of +/- 5% when the Static Locator is 2 inches
away from static charge.

Limited Warranty

Semtronics expressly warrants that for a period of one (1) year
from the date of purchase, Semtronics Static Locators will be free
of defects in material (parts) and workmanship (labor). Within the
warranty period, a unit will be tested, repaired, or replaced at our
option, free of charge. Call Customer Service at 909-627-8178
(Chino, CA) or 781-821-8370 (Canton, MA) for Return Material
Authorization (RMA) and proper shipping instructions and address.
Include a copy of your original packing slip, invoice, or other proof
of date of purchase. Any unit under warranty should be shipped
prepaid to the Semtronics factory. Warranty replacements will take
approximately two weeks. If your unit is out of warranty, Semtronics
will quote repair charges necessary to bring your unit up to factory
standards. Call Customer Service at 909-627-8178 for proper
shipping instructions and address. Ship your unit freight prepaid.

Warranty Exclusions

THE FOREGOING EXPRESS WARRANTY IS MADE IN LIEU OF
ALL OTHER PRODUCT WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED AND
IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITYAND FITNESS FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE WHICH ARE SPECIFICALLY
DISCLAIMED. The express warranty will not apply to defects or
damage due to accidents, neglect, misuse, alterations, operator
error, or failure to properly maintain, clean or repair products

Limit of Liability

In no event will Semtronics or any seller be responsible or liable for
any injury, loss or damage, direct or consequential, arising out of
the use of or the inability to use the product. Before using, users
shall determine the suitability of the product for their intended use,
and users assume all risk and liability whatsoever in connection
therewith.
