Instructions for Use
One: Remove the mat from the packaging and determine the proper position on the operating room floor. The floor MUST be completely dry and clean prior to the placement of the mat. All wording on the mat must point toward the user so it can be easily read while facing the surgical table.
Important Note: It is critical to make sure the mat is placed directly under the source of fluids coming down from the surgical site (at any angle necessary) to ensure proper collection and suctioning of fluids. Placing the mat several inches UNDER the surgical table may help to ensure better collection and suctioning of fluids from the surgical site.
Three: Operating room suction tubing (not included) must now be connected to the mat and to a fluid collection canister or other suction source. a. On the mat, locate the “T” Connector in the upper right or left corner which is closest to the fluid collection canister or other suction source. b. Remove the black or red (depending on mat model), vinyl protective cap on the chosen “T” Connector.
c. Attach the suction tubing to the mat. d. Connect the other end of the suction tubing to the fluid collection canister or other suction source.
Important Note: Tape any excess suction tubing to the floor to help prevent risk of tripping. Make sure
there are no objects on top of the suction tubing or the tubing incorporated into the mat to ensure proper suction function.
Critical 2-Step Draping Method Four: Following standard patient draping, twist the drapes around each other at the bottom, directly
above the floor, to create a V-shape or funnel-shape with the drapes.
Five: Take any standard heavy clamp (a sponge stick is a good option) and clamp the twisted drapes so that the clamp hangs over the mat, ideally 15 – 30 cm (6-12 inches) above the mat. Important Note: Occasionally it may be necessary to add additional drape clamps to redirect the fluid toward the mat during the surgical procedure, as the drapes may skirt during surgery.
The mat is Now Ready for Use Six: At the conclusion of the surgical procedure, fold the absorbent layer on the mat and then lift the
mat from the floor. Discard the mat with other contaminated items, pursuant to hospital regulations and guidelines. Never attempt to reuse the mat.
