Applications
Garment tagging and identification
There is a wide range of fasteners available for tagging garments.
Most systems use a tool and needle to insert the fastener through
the fabric. The basic options relate to fabric delicacy; distance the tag
needs to hang from where the fastener is anchored; and the need for
fastener strength.
The most innovative and technologically advanced product for
garment tagging is the Micro Fastener. Its needle is so thin and
gentle that in most cases it allows the fastener to be placed
anywhere on the garment, right through the fabric. The fastener is
hardly visible and is easy to remove, yet it is strong enough to keep
the label safe.
In applications where there is no risk of fabric damage, such as
tagging through a woven label, at a seam or through an open
weave, the most commonly used fastener is the Standard Swiftach
polypropylene. Available in a range of lengths, the longer sizes (1.5-in.
& 2.6-in.) tend to be preferred for easier tag access.
When productivity is the key, System 1000 is the solution. It is
equivalent to Standard fasteners, but supplied in rolls of 1000 to
avoid constant reloading. Fine Fabric fasteners are gentler on the
garment than the Standard Swiftach and in many cases will not
damage the fabric or the woven label. With a similar needle diameter
to that of Fine Fabric fasteners, the highly productive ST9500
®
attachment system applies Plastic Staples
the garment and can be safely removed by tugging firmly at the tag.
so the labels stay flush to
Textiles bundling
Whether you are folding a shirt, pairing socks, packaging towels or if
you have a heavier application, such as packaging bath or car mats,
our fasteners simplify the job.
For delicate garments such as formal shirts, lingerie, dress socks and
swimwear, Micro Fasteners are the ideal solution. The unique needle
penetrates most fabrics without damaging the weave. The fasteners
are strong enough to hold the pack in place but easy and safe to
remove.
When the weave is less delicate and greater strength is needed, then
Heavy Duty Paddle Fasteners are the better option. They come in
several sizes and can be applied with either short or long needles.
The Heavy Duty Swiftach is stronger and can hold together heavier
materials and withstand heavier loads. For application speed and
ease of removal, Plastic Staple is a great alternative. It can be used
on a single layer or stretched to fix several layers. If the application
requires a longer fastener, Elastic Staple would be the solution.
Available in a variety of lengths, the Elastic Staple is applied with a
needle that penetrates up to 2.1” of compressed material. Use the
VNS machine for a staple-type application and the SNS machine for
a t-end.”
When piercing the product with needles is not an option, Secur-a-
Tach may be the solution. It is a hand-applied loop fastener with a
locking mechanism at both ends. Applying it is as easy as looping
through the label and garment and inserting one end into the other.
For sharper looks, use String-Tach.

Washing and finishing textiles
Avery Dennison has products for both industrial and commercial
laundries. The Dry Cleaning Fine Fabric fastener is made of nylon
and has an additive that gives it excellent chemical and temperature
resistance. Nylon Micro Fasteners can also withstand the process
and are inserted with an even gentler needle. For washing effects,
to achieve a whiskering affect on denim, Plastic Staple™ is the
industry’s standard. It is the fastest way to add pleats to the fabric
before washing, and the fasteners can be easily removed when
finished. Alternatively the .28-in. T-End Fine Fabric fastener can be
applied with a hand tool or a pneumatic unit. Micro Fasteners are
recommended to avoid unwanted needle marks on the fabric. Place
two fasteners at the same time for added strength.
Tagging and bundling of foam, rubber, leather,
vinyl, paper and other flexible materials
Fasteners are used in hundreds of applications outside the textile
industry. Mattress manufacturers use the EHD T-End to hold
several layers of foam together as an alternative to adhesives. In the
automotive industry the Industrial Buttoneer is used for joining rubber
components, such as door gaskets, to facilitate compression and to
avoid having metallic parts contacting. Bundling raw leather and skins
is not an easy task for conventional fastener applicators. The SHD all-
steel standard pneumatic unit is fit for that purpose. It can apply a
variety of fasteners through a range of tough materials. Elastic
Staple™ is an extremely versatile product that will adapt well
to automation and high productivity. Being elastic allows it to
compensate for variations in size of irregularly shaped products. If
the application doesn’t require a very strong fastener but can benefit
from high productivity, then System 1000® could be the solution.
Packaging finished products
Packaging goods onto backing cards with cable ties, twist ties and
strings is very labor intensive, while blister packs, clam shells and
vacuum packing are expensive and heavy in plastic usage. Avery
Dennison’s exclusive Elastic Staple can attach goods in a single
operation by fastening them to the card with less than .002 ounce
of plastic. For positioning garments within a package, such as doll
clothing, or making a garment look good in a package, like pinning a
dress shirt, Micro Fasteners are unobtrusive as well as easy and safe
to remove.
Shoe lasting
To improve productivity, shoe manufacturers can replace the hand
applied string lasting process with the quick to apply, EHD T-End
fasteners.
Food tagging (Fish, Meat, Poultry)
Tagging fresh meat is not a problem: Tag Fast™ is specially made
to ensure that traceability tags are not lost during processing. Made
of food grade nylon and featuring a double paddle head, they are
easily removed without leaving any kind of residue in the food. Fresh
pineapples from all over the world are tagged with the S1000 SPU5P
pneumatic tool. The tool is light and made to withstand the rough
conditions of speed tagging through leaves, which contain juices,
acids, loose particles and wax.

Cable Ties, Installation Tools & Accessories
These include our Environmentally-Conscious Cable Ties, which are
produced with 60% less material than standard cable ties of similar
dimensions, yet have equal fastening strength.
The ties are available in both Ladder-Tie and Super Bar-Lok configurations. Ladder-Tie packaging weighs 22% less than standard cable
tie packaging. Super Bar-Lok ties offer similar weight savings and are
recommended for marine and aviation applications.
Businesses in need of reliable, proven cable-tie fastening solutions
have turned with confidence to Fastener Division for over 35 years.
Our product line ranges from miniature and intermediate fasteners, to
extra heavy duty ties used in countless applications worldwide. Our
fasteners have earned acceptance as the industry standard, meeting
emerging requirements for extra strength, temperature-resistance and
environmental sustainability
Specialty products also include Secur-A-Tie®, which adjusts for a
custom fit, Secur-A-Seal™, which has a tamper-evident head design,
and tamper-resistant Security Ties, which help prevent ticket-transfer
fraud in the ski industry.

Tool and Accessories
Lightweight, rugged and ergonomically designed Fastener Division
cable tie installation tools efficiently apply miniature, intermediate and
standard-size cable ties in high volume applications. Our tools are designed to remove excess material safely and securely. Pneumatically
powered tools relieve worker fatigue. Heavy-duty tools are available to
fasten heavy-duty cable ties to wires and products.
Cable ties are applied by threading the fastener through its head,
which forms a loop with the tie’s teeth on the inside. Rails guide the
strap through the strap channel and over the tie’s pawl. When fully
tensioned around a bundle, either by hand or with an installation tool,
the pawl will rotate, interlocking a pawl tooth with a strap tooth. The
tail can be cut off with an installation tool and discarded.
Automotive Cable Ties
Conventional Cable Ties
Typical Fastener Division Miniature, Intermediate, and Heavy Duty
