DEMA BLEND SAFE
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1) PARTS:
A) Blend Safe.
B) 1 pc. 1/4 " ID x 19" Lg. Vinyl Supply Tubing, Foot Valve & Ceramic Weight.
C) 1 pc. Keys.
D) 3 pcs. #8 Pan Head Mounting Screws & Anchors.
E) 1 pc. Label Card.
F) 1 pc. Drip Tray.
G) 1 p c. Metering Tip Kit.
2) INSTALLATION: (Refer to Figure 1)
Note: All installations must conform with local plumbing codes and use approved backflow preventers.
A) MOUNTING AND WATER SUPPLY
Hold the unit in position to locate the mounting screw positions at the top & bottom. Install the mounting screws at
the top, leaving approximately 1/8" extension between the wall and screw head. Mount the Blend Safe by inserting
the screw heads t hrough t he key hole slots in the t op and t ightening the screws (See Figure 1). Now insert and
tighten the screws in the bottom.
The water inlet is equipped with a female garden hose fitting (with strainer washer) for attac hin g a w ater suppl y hose .
The fitting may be removed to permit direct connection to a 3/8" NPT pipe. The unit is designed so water can be
supplied to either side by interchanging the pipe plug with the pipe and female hose fitting. Note: Apply pipe dope,
hand tighten, and then turn 10 times with a wrench. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.

B) CHEMICAL INJECTION ADJUSTMENT
Warning: use care when handling hazardous chemicals.
Chemical feed rates are controlled by metering tips screwed into the proportioner barb. Select a tip using Table 1 or
2 as a guide. All induction rates are based on 40 psi water inlet pressure.
Note: 1 cps (centipoise) is equal to the viscosity of water, 75 cps is approximately equal to the viscosity of 10
weight motor oil, and 200 cps is approximately equal to the viscosity of most dishwashing detergents.
C) CHEMICAL SUPPLY
Install t he chemical supp ly tub ing by p ushing t he tub ing over t he b arb of the p rop ort ioner. The proport ioner is
accessible through the case door (Refer to Figure 1). Push t he tubing through the slots in the cover. Place the
chemical container inside the case and insert the foot valve and ceramic weight end of the ch em ic al suppl y tubin g i nto
the chemical container. Peel off gummed labels are provided for labeling chemicals.
D) DRIP TRAY
The Drip Tray is installed by simply sliding the tray flange under the tabs on the bottom of the case. Lower the tray
allowing tray dimples to fall into the receptor holes.

3) OPERATION
The Blend Safe is now ready for use. Depressing a push button opens the valve allowing water to fl ow th rou gh the c he mi cal
proportioner that mixes a chemical water solution at the desired rate. The buttons are spring loaded to prevent accidental
overflow if unattended, but may be converted to locking buttons by cutting off the tab at the notch (See Figure 2). Pushing
the button and turning it a 1/4 turn clockwise at the end of its travel allows the valve to lock on. This makes it unnecessary
for the attendant to hold the button in while filling large containers. Turning the button in a counter cloc kw ise d ire c tio n w i ll
release it, allowing the valve to shut off.

4) SERVICING
Caution: Turn off water supply before servicing.
A. Proportioner fails to draw chemical:
1) Insufficient water s upply pressure. 20 PSI is t he minimum allowable pres sure.
B. Proportioner stops drawing chemical:
1) Inspect foot valve for dried chemical or dirt . Soak in hot water to clean.
2) Proport ioner metering tip clogged with dried chemical. Remove tip and try inject ing in hot wat er. If there is
no suction, remover proportioner and soak in hot water to clear interior passages.
C. Valve Malfunction:
Check that the button moves freely in & out and that a "click" can be heard when the button is pushed and released,
indicating that t he magnet is act ivat ing t he plunger p rop erly. Remove cover. To insp ect internal p art s , unscrew
magnet housing and carefully pull off the enclosing tube so as not to drop the plunger, kick-off spring, and spacer.
Check for dirt or damage impending plunger and kick-off spring movement. Inspect the diaphragm , mak in g sure the
two small pin holes (bleed hole) in the diaphragm convolution are clear to allow the valve to close.
Caution: When servicing unit, be sure that replacement parts have been installed according to drawing.

for one year from the date of manufacture. This limited warranty does not apply to any products which
have a normal life shorter than one year or failure and damage caused by chemicals, corrosion, i mpro pe r
voltage supply, physical abuse, or misapplication. Rubber and synthetic rubber parts such as “o”- ri ng s,
diaphragms, squeeze tubing and gaskets are considered expendable and are not covered unde r w arra nty .
This warra nty is ext ended only to t he original buyer of DEMA products. If p roducts are alt ered or
repaired without prior approval of DEMA, this warranty will be void.
Defective units or part s should b e returned to the fact ory with transp ortat ion prepaid. If ins pection
shows them to be defective, they will be repaired or replaced without charge, F.O .B. factory. DEMA
assumes no liability for damages. Return merchandise authorization number, to return u nits f or repai r o r
replacement, must be granted in advance of return.
