About DRM Protected material:
DRM is short for "Digital Rights Management", which is an anti-piracy technology used by digital copyright owners to control who gets access to and can copy their work. In particular, DRM gives publishers, musicians and authors some ability to control how people can install, listen to, view, and duplicate digital files. This technology limits ownership by not allowing you to share a file you own, copy a file you own, or loan a file you own.
Some concerns about DRM include:
-The inability to use a file rightfully paid for on all devices you own personally. Secured formats are very difficult or impossible to pass from one device to another.
-The inability to back up and safeguard e-Books that are paid for.
-The inability to cut, copy, highlight or paste material needed.
-The inability to convert an e-Book into an audio book.
-The inability to print a purchased e-Book.
The “OpenBook” E-Reader is designed exclusively to read open format e-Books:
Up to 1.8 million free e-Books have been documented as available on the internet. Dozens of sites offer these free eBooks for your reading pleasure.
Open Format e-Books available for purchase:
In addition to free e-Books, many more can be purchased. Many publishers and authors offer their works in non-DRM formats. These books are compatible with the “OpenBook” EReader.
CAUTION WHEN PURCHASING AND DOWNLOADING eBooks FROM THE INTERNET:
Before purchasing any e-Book from a website, please make sure it is NOT a DRM protected file. Many sites will use
words like “secured”, “protected” or “encrypted” to identify
DRM protected e-Books. These e-Books can NOT be read by the “OpenBook” E-Reader. (NOTE: DRM protected files can be purchased and downloaded to most computers, they just
can’t be transferred and read by the “OpenBookE-Reader.
