
LSI 9300-8e 12Gb/s SAS Host Bus Adapter Reference Guide

Overview 
The LSI 9300-8e is a 12Gb/s SAS adapter which provides two 12Gb/s Mini-SAS HD 
external connections. The LSI HBA supports 8 PCI Express lanes and complies with the 
latest PCI Express 3.0 specification.  Each HBA supports 8 individual SAS lanes 
operating at 12Gb/s (4 per port). 
Dell Server and Storage Support 
The LSI 9300-8e HBA is compatible with all Dell 11th, 12th, and 13th generation 
PowerEdge Servers that have a PCI Express (PCI-e) x8 slot. 
The HBA is backwards compatible with previous P CI-e and SAS generat ions through 
automatic negotiation and provides SAS data tr an sfer rate of 12 and 6 Gb/s per lane. 
The LSI 9300-8e HBA is fully functional, tested and supported w ith the Dell 
PowerVault MD34/38 series storage arrays. It is not supported when attached to any 
other Dell storage products.

Installation Instructions 

Dell PowerEdge Server Slot Priority 
The Dell PowerEd ge Server expansion card slot priority tables can be found in the 
Hardware Owner’s manuals posted on Support.dell.com for each server. 
The LSI 9300-8e HBA should be installed in the PowerEdge server using the same 
guidelines for slot priority as the Dell 6Gbps SAS HBA. This verbiage may vary 
depending on the server and the ver sion of the hardware owner’s manual, but may be 
listed in one of the following ways in the slot priority matrix: Dell 6Gbps SAS HBA, 
Non-RAID, or All other Dell storage cards.
