BDA OVERVIEW:
The BDA assembly provides an exceptional repeater/booster performances to extend the coverage area of radio communications in buildings and RF sh ielded environments. Features such as high linearity power amplifiers are contributing for t h e o veral l im p roved s yst em li n ear ity p e rfor m anc es. Th e un it is based on a duplexed path configuration, having sharp out of band attenuation for improved isolation between the receiving and transmitting paths.
BDA BLOCK DIAGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The B DA Do wnli nk p ath recei ves t h e RF sig n als from b as e s tat i on amplifies and transmits them to the subscriber. The BDA Uplink path receives the RF signals from the subscriber amplifies and transmits them to the base station. Two duplexers frequency separat e the sig nals to the prop er amplifying p ath and isolate t he two signals.
BDA with AGC (Option A)
The amplifiers in this B DA have an AGC feedb ack loop. The AG C circuit senses the output power and when it exceeds the preset level of +20 dBm it introduces more attenuation. In th is manner the gain of the amplifier is reduced, its output power is limited to +20 dBm and the Intermodulation products are kept low. The AGC Dynamic range is 30 dB.

BDA CONNECTIONS
The BDA AC power is supplied through a standard 3-wire male plug with phase, neutral and safety ground wires. The AC power is only used to supply a high efficiency DC switching power supply. The two amp lifiers (Up link and Down link) an d the P owe r On lamp use only DC power. The RF connection is made via two type “N” female connectors. The RF connector labeled “Base” must be connected to the antenna pointing to the base station. The RF connection labeled Mobile m ust be c onnec ted t o th e anten na poin ting in to the ar ea
to be covered by th e BDA. The connections must be made through 50 ohms impedance cables. The isolation between the base station antenna and the mobile ant enn a s hou ld be at leas t 12 dB h igher t han the BD A gai n. If t he isolation were less than the BDA gain, oscillation would start and would saturate the amplifier. Isolation few dB higher than the BDA gain cannot start oscillations but would causes gain ripple in the band.
PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
The BDA should provide long term, care free operation with no need of any periodic maintenance. The BDA has no user adjustments or alignments. The front panel lamp indicates power supply turn on.

As mentioned before the BDA should provide long term, care free operation with no need of any periodic maintenance. This section will cover possible pr oblems that may sh ow up after in stallation.
a. Gain Reduction
Possib le caus es: Bad RF cabl es and RF conn ection s to antenn as, Damag ed antennas.
b. Exce ssive Intermodulation or Spurious
Possible causes: Amplifier os c ill ation c aused by insuf ficien t isolation. The isolation between two antennas is given by the equation: Isolation = 92.5 + 20 Log ( F x D ) – Gt – Gr F is frequency in GHz D is sep ar ation in Km Gt is the trans m it antenna gain (at the direction of th e r ec eiv e antenn a) . Gr is the receive antenn a gain (at the direct ion of the trans m it antenna). For exampl e at t h e SMR frequ en cy th e antenn a isol ation at 100 m sep arat ion is about 71 dB for omni antennas (0 dB gain). To increase isolation the antennas should have higher directivity and must be pointed away from each other.
c. Occasiona l Dr op-out of som e Channel s
Possible causes: One channel with very strong power dominating the RF output of the ampl ifier.

RF EXPOSURE WARNING:
In order to satisfy the FCC RF exposure requ irements, you must ensure that the installation complies wit h the following:
One antenna is connected via cable that has 3~10 dB attenuation (d epend s on the length of th e c able) t o the CBDA BASE por t. Th is antenna is installed outdoor and has very sharp beam (Yagi typ e or s im ilar) pointed to the donor (BTS). This typ e of antenna has ab out 10 dB i gain. Typical specif ic ations : (model ASPD2996): gain : 8dBd ( = 10.1dB i) , VSWR: better than 1.5: 1 , Impedan c e: 50 ohm , F /B ratio: 18 dB, E -pl ane Beamwidth: 47deg., H-plane Beamwidth: 58 deg. You mu s t maintain a minimum distanc e of 0.3m from the outdoor antenna to people within the ar ea.
The sec ond antenna is c onn ec ted via cable that has 2~ 6 dB attenu ation (d epend s on the length of th e c able) t o the CBDA MOBILE port . This type of antenna is omnidirectional (isotropic) with 0 to 2 dBi gain and is installed and distributes indoor (in buildings, tunnels, basements, park lots, shopping centers etc.). This antenna is installed usually on the ceiling. Typical sp ec ifications: ( K athr ein m odel No. 741 572) : gain: 2dBi, VSW R: bett er than 2:1 , Imped ance: 50 ohm, Polarizat ion: Vert ic al. Y ou must maintain a minimum dis tanc e of 0.1m from the indoor antenna to peopl e within the area.
