Electrical safety
x Never submerge the appliance in
water.
x Never use this appliance with
damp or wet hands.
x Always disconnect the appliance
from the electrical outlet when filling with water or emptying and when not in use
x Ensure that the supply power
source complies with the information on the rating plate. To disconnect the appliance from the power source unplug it.
x Pay attention not to step or trip
on the power cable when using the appliance.
x Place the appliance so that the
plug is always accessible.
x Completely unwind the mains
cable.
x Never touch the plug of the
appliance with damp or wet hands.
x Always unplug the appliance
when not in use, even if only for a short period of time.
x Always unplug the appliance
before filling the water or when removing excess water form it.
x To avoid damage to the power
cord, do not allow it to be squeezed, twisted or rubbed against sharp edges. Keep the power cord away from hot surfaces and naked flame.
x Do not pull on the power cable of
the appliance to disconnect it from the power supply and never wrap the power cable around the appliance.
x Do not use this appliance with an
extension cord.
Safety and set-up
Please read this instruction manual thoroughly prior to using this appliance! Follow all safety instructions in order to avoid damages due to improper use!
Keep the instruction manual for future reference. Should this appliance be given to a third party, than this instruction manual must also be handed over.
General safety
x Do not use the appliance
outdoors or in the bathroom.
x No responsibility shall be
assumed for damages arising from misuse or improper handling of the appliance.
x Do not leave this appliance
unattended while it is in use. Extreme caution is advised when the appliance is being used nearby children and people with limited physical, sensorial or mental capacities.
x Do not open the casing of the
appliance under any circumstance. No responsibility shall be assumed for damages arising from improper usage.
x In case of any damage to the
appliance or power cord, it should be repaired or replaced by the dealer, service centre or an authorised specialist to avoid any danger. Faulty or unqualified repair work may be dangerous and cause risk to the user.
x Only use the original parts or
parts recommended by the manufacturer.
x To ensure safe operation of the
appliance, do not attempt to change the safety features in any way.

Safety and set-up
x Do not immerse the appliance,
the power cord or the plug in water or in any other liquid.
x To avoid overloads, do not
plug any other high-power appliance into the same electricity line.
Product safety
x Do not put the appliance on hot
surfaces (gas, electric or coal stove, etc.). Keep this appliance away from all kinds of hot surfaces.
x To avoid injury or material
damages, always keep your hair, clothes and all other belongings away from the appliance when it is in use.
x Warning - Risk of Burning! Do
not touch the hot soleplate of the iron. Do not lean on the iron when it is in use. Hot air will come out from the appliance during operation! Hold the iron only by its handle.
x If this appliance drips or leaks
water or has other failures, it must be checked and repaired by an authorized service specialist. Do not use this appliance until it is repaired.
x Do not allow the iron to come
into contact with zippers, metal buttons or other metal parts as these may damage the soleplate of the iron.
x Do not leave the appliance
unattended when switched on.
x Only use the appliance only
when it is connected to the steam station.
x Never direct the hot soleplate
of the appliance to people, pets or other electrical appliances when steam is coming out.
x The surface on which you will
use the appliance must be stable.
x Before using an ironing board,
make sure that the floor where you will place the ironing board is stable.
x After use, leave the appliance
to cool down completely in a safe place away from reach of children and people with limited physical, sensorial or mental capacities. Wait until the appliance cools down completely before storing it. Unattended hot irons may cause burns and injuries!
x Never pull the cord to
disconnect from the mains: instead, grasp plug and pull to disconnect.
x The soleplate and steam
station may get hot! Contact with hot surfaces may cause burns.

Ensure that packing material is disposed of in a responsible manner and that any plastic bags are cut up to prevent children playing with them and accidentally suffocating.

Child safety
x Danger of suffocation! Keep all
the packaging materials away from children.
x This appliance is not intended
for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
x Children should be supervised
to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
x When the appliance is in use or
left to cool down, keep children away from the device and its power cord.
x Ensure that children can not
touch the hot iron and that they can not pull on the mains wire.
x Do not allow the cord to touch
hot surfaces. Allow the iron to cool completely before putting away.
x Do not operate the appliance
with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the appliance. Take it to a qualified service agent for examination and repair. Incorrect re-assembly, can cause a risk of electric shock when the appliance is used.
x Burns can occur from touching
hot metal parts, hot water or steam, use caution when you turn a steam iron upside down­there may be hot water in the reservoir.
x If the iron is not operating
normally, disconnect from the power supply and contact the nearest authorized service agent.

x Use the iron only for its
intended use. This appliance is intended for household use only.

Operation

Intended use
This appliance is intended only for household use and ironing; it is not suitable for commercial use.
Initial use
1. Remove the packaging from the lime collecting cartridge (1) which is placed separately in the box.
2. Soak the lime collecting cartridge (1) in water for 1 minute in order to enhance its performance.
3. Push the cartridge (1) in its slot.
4. Prior to initial use, fill the water reservoir (5) with water and allow water to evaporate twice in order to remove any manufacturing residues.
During first use, a light odor may arise from the iron. This will disappear after the first few uses.

WARNING: Never iron on metal parts, such as zippers, rivets, or metal buttons as they could damage the soleplate of the iron. Always iron around these metal parts.
Filling the water reservoir
Ironing tips
x The appliance gets heated in a short time;
iron fabrics such as synthetic, silk etc. using low temperature settings.
x Iron fabrics that may lustre (silk etc.) by
turning them inside out or using the appliance in Smart- ECO mode.
x Use very little pressure when ironing
fabrics such as velvet and iron them towards one single direction.
x Steam usage may cause stains on
coloured silk fabrics. Do not use steam.
x 100% pure woollen clothes can be ironed
by using steam.
x Ironing woollen clothes may cause lustre.
Iron by turning woollens inside out.
Temperature setting
x Set the appropriate temperature for the
fabric to be ironed by using the control button (11).
WARNING: Steam iron at all temperature levels except for “•” Press the steam trigger (12) for steam ironing.
WARNING: Always read and take the ironing instructions specified on the label of the fabric into consideration when ironing.
Dry ironing
x The appliance will only produce steam
when the steam trigger button (12) is pressed.
x In order to use dry ironing, do not press
the steam trigger (12).
WARNING: When filling the water reservoir with water, without removing the iron from the steam station, ensure that the appliance is unplugged.
1. Press the on/off button (11), switch off and unplug the appliance.
The Smart-ECO mode of your appliance is suitable for all types of iron able fabrics. Ironing can be done safely in this mode. Steam iron by using the steam trigger (12) in this mode.

Steam ironing
1. Fill the water reservoir (5) with water.
2. Place the appliance on the steam station surface (7).
3. Plug in the appliance.
WARNING: Never direct steam to clothes on people or garments on pets.
2. Remove the water reservoir (5) by pressing the water reservoir removal latch, positioned under the water reservoir.
3. Open the water refill lid (6) and fill with water up to the MAX level.
This appliance is suitable for use with tap water. If the tap water is excessively hard, we recommend the use of a mixture of tap water and specially formulated distilled or de-ionised water.
4. Place the water reservoir (5) in its correct position. A click will be audible when the water reservoir is seated correctly in position.
A beeping sound will be audible when the appliance starts to operate. – Control panel (10) flashes once and then goes off.
4. Press the on/off button (11).
Operation of the pump may make some noise during the water drawing process; this is normal.
The appliance starts in Smart­ECO mode for initial use. This level offers safe temperature and steam amounts for all iron able fabrics.
5. Temperature levels may be set to other settings beside the Smart - ECO mode by using the control button (11).
WARNING: Your selection should be suited to the fabric that will be ironed.

1. Automatic Shutdown (Auto-Off)
2. If the appliance is not moved or any of the buttons pressed for 10 minutes, then the appliance will be shut down automatically.
3. If the appliance is moved horizontally or any of the buttons are pressed, it will start to operate again.
6. When the symbol of the selected setting flashes on the display consistently, the appliance is ready to iron.
WARNING: If the symbol on the display flashes, this means that the soleplate temperature setting is not at the desired level.
Steam ironing may be done by using the steam trigger (12) at all temperature levels except for “•”.
7. When the appliance is ready for steam ironing, move the iron horizontally on the fabric to be ironed and press the steam trigger (12). The iron will produce steam from its soleplate (8) for as long as the steam trigger is pressed.
8. When the ironing process is over, press the on/ off button (11) for a few seconds. The lights on the control panel will go off.
9. Unplug the appliance and leave it to cool.
Vertical steam
Steam may also be used in the upright position. Curtains and hung garments easily be ironed using the vertical steam feature. Keep the appliance 15-30 cm away from garments and curtains.
WARNING:
Never direct the steam towards people or pets.
It may take 60 seconds for the soleplate (8) to reach the previous temperature level.

Cleaning & maintenance

WARNING: Do not soak the
steam station (2) in water or other liquids. Never put vinegar, descaling agent, laundry starch, perfume or other auxiliary products that help ironing into the appliance.
WARNING: Never use gasoline, solvent and abrasive cleaning agents or a hard brush to clean this appliance.
WARNING: Do not wash the appliance under running water and do not soak it in water or other liquids.
WARNING: Do not use abrasive cleaning agents to clean the soleplate (8).
Replacing the lime collecting cartridge
1. symbol will flash on the control panel (10) when the cartridge needs to be replaced.
2. Soak the new cartridge in water for 1 minute in order to enhance its performance.
3. Before removing the old cartridge from its slot, make sure that the sections surrounding the cartridge is cold.
4. Slightly press and release to replace the cartridge.
WARNING: Do not use any descaling agents! They may damage the appliance.
WARNING: Do not purchase cartridge from places other than the dealers and service centers. If you do this, the cartridge may not fit into the cartridge slot and may not operate. This may cause a breakdown in the appliance. Faults arising from using the incorrect cartridge are not covered under warranty.
The cartridge must be replaced after consuming about 30 liters of water.
5. Remove the new cartridge from its package, soak it in the water for 1 minute and push it in its slot.
Cleaning
1. Switch off and unplug the appliance before each cleaning process.
2. Wait until the iron cools down completely.
3. Use a slightly damp cloth to clean the outer surface of the iron, then wait until the iron dries completely.
4. Wipe the sediments and residues on the soleplate with a slightly damp cloth and soft, nonabrasive liquid cleaner as necessary.

Lime removing feature (Self-Clean)
1. When the lime removing (self-clean) symbol flashes on the control panel, (10) then lime removal is necessary.
2. Fill the water reservoir (5).
3. Plug in the appliance.
4. Hold and press the control button (11) and steam trigger (12) together for 3 seconds.
Transport lock
1. Turn the transport lock (9) in order to be able to move/transport the appliance and store it securely.
The symbol will constantly flash on the control panel (10) when the appliance switches to lime removing (self-clean) mode.
5. Then press the control button (11) once. symbol will flash on the control panel (10) permanently.
6. Keep the appliance over the sink horizontally and shake it while pressing and holding the steam trigger (12).
7. When the lime removing (self-clean) has completed, the appliance automatically returns to the mode that was active before the lime removing process was initiated.
2. Turn the lock again to unlock the transport lock.
Storage
x If you do not intend to use the steam iron
for a long time, please store it responsibly.
x Make sure that the iron is unplugged and
cooled down completely before storing it.
x Empty the water reservoir (5). x Wrap the cable around the cable winding
slot with bracket (3) and secure it in when storing the steam station.
x Keep the steam iron and its accessories in
their original packages.
x Store them in a cool and dry place. x Make sure that the appliance is stored in a
place out of the reach of children.

This appliance has been made from high quality materials and parts which can be reused and are suitable for recycling.
Do not dispose of the appliance with normal household waste at the end of its service life. Consult your local authorities
for disposal
information and facilities available.

Moving and transportation
x Carry the appliance in its original
packaging during moving and transportation. The packaging of the appliance protects it against physical damage.
x Do not place heavy loads on the appliance
or the packaging. The appliance may get damaged.
x Dropping the appliance may render it non
operational or cause permanent damage.
Important: Always rest your iron on the base.

Warranty

This certificate is issued by DEFY APPLIANCES (PTY) LIMITED manufacturers of Defy and Ocean products, hereinafter the Company, to the original purchaser only, of the appliance described on the certificate and shall constitute the only warranty given in respect of this appliance.
The Company warrants to the original purchaser that for a period of ONE YEAR from date of purchase the appliance is free from defect under normal domestic use, both in workmanship and material, subject to the following conditions.
1. Carry-in service. Small appliances are repaired in our service centres and are not collected from the customers home. Faulty units must be delivered to the purchasing dealer or to the nearest Company Service Centre for warranty repairs.
2. Vitreous enamelware, fuses and lamps are specifically excluded from these warranties. It is an express condition of these warranties that the purchaser takes due care and attention in the use and maintenance of the appliance. Abuse, misuse in conflict with operating instructions, connection to incorrect voltages and subjection to commercial use shall release the Company from its obligations.
3. This warranty shall become void and cease to operate if the appliance is dismantled by, or any repairs to the appliance are effected by any persons not duly authorised by the Company, or if substitute parts not approved by the Company are used in the appliance, or if the serial number of the appliance is removed.
4. The Company shall not be responsible for damages resulting from fire, flood, civil disturbances or any Act of God. The Company shall not, in terms of these warranties be responsible nor held liable for any consequential loss or damage of any kind caused by or due to the failure or malfunction of the appliance. The Company shall not be responsible for damages caused by insect and/or animal infestation.
5. The Company shall not be responsible for transportation or other costs other than those incurred within the provisions of Point 1 of this Certificate.
6. For warranties in the Republic of South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, please contact your nearest Defy office. Please refer to the previous page for respective South African service agents and Sub-Saharan Africa service agents.
7. Where service is requested under warranty and no fault or defect can be found by the
Company, all costs incurred will be for the purchaser's account.
8. This Certificate as well as your invoice will serve as proof of purchase. For the purpose of warranty, it will be essential to produce this Certificate and invoice. Failure to do so, will render the purchaser liable for service costs.
