ASLH308 GPRS Modem Setup Guide
The ASLH308 is designed for Elster A1140 three phase electric meters. The unit has been designed for easy installation and can be connected to the meter whilst powered up.
Preparing the modem
1. The ASLH308 has an internal antenna. This must be bridged to the modem by joining the two
SMA connector that come from the modem.
Installing an external antenna
If using an external booster antenna, connect the SMA connector from the external antenna to the female SMA connector on the modem. Leave the male connector disconnected as it is no longer needed.
2. Remove the outside terminal cover from the meter to access the RJ11 serial port.

4. Check the LED status indictors to make sure that the modem is operating normally and has good GSM signal quality so that remote meter readings can be performed.
The GPRS signal quality will also scroll onto the meter’s display automatically every 10 seconds. This should be 13 or higher. Use a booster antenna to ensure the signal quality meets this threshold.
LED Status Indicators
The ASLH308 has 3 LEDS in the lower left hand corner of the module.
LED

1. Very rapid blinking – GPRS mode
2. Alternating between rapid flash and slow flash –
AutoRegistration mode
3. Steady flashing – CSD call in progress
4. Slow blink – CSD mode, no call in progress
Amber
Signal strength indicator
The longer the yellow led is on then the better the GSM signal quality. Slow blink = poor signal.
