SERIES 6600i HEADSET AND RADIO ADAPTER OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Read Control Drawing 06600G-01 for connection instructions and warning notes.
2. Connect C6600i Radio Adapter to your radio.
3. Place radio in a pocket or belt mounted holster.
4. Adjust the 360 degree rotating clip on the Push-To-Talk (PTT) Module and attach for easy access at chest or belt level.
5. Place the Headset on the head and adjust support assembly for optimum fit and comfort. Headset can be worn with or without a hardhat type safety helmet.
6. The boom microphone must be positioned zero to 1/8” from lips at corner of mouth for best signal to noise ratio (maximum noise cancellation).
7. The microphone boom assembly can be rotated 180 degrees for a right or left position. The nape spring must also be rotated to accommodate the change in microphone boom positioning.
8. Connect the in-line Switchcraft connector (from radio adapter) to the headset mounted mating connector. Ensure that the connectors are properly “keyed” and secure. The black button must return to the locked “UP” position for indication of secure connection.
9. Cables have been kept to a minimum length to reduce hazards caused by snagging, however to ensure you have a full range of movement, do not over-tighten cables.
10. To field test the H6600i Headset and C6600i Radio Adapter a second radio is required set at the same channel as the radio attached to the C6600i Radio Adapter. Turn both radios ON, push the C6600i PTT switch and talk. Position the boom microphone for best clarity and noise cancellation. (see Item 6. above)
11. Handy Tips for good communication:
Adjust the volume on the radio so it is comfortable.
Instruct the user to speak at a normal level.
Try to avoid shouting as this may somewhat distort the output of the microphone.
(In high noise areas people have a tendency to shout to communicate, this is not
necessary when using a close talking noise canceling microphone.)
12. Use in explosive atmospheres: The Series C6600i Radio Adapter is Intrinsically Safe Approved. The radio adapter has been tested to the highest level of I.S. Approval, including dust atmospheres. This allows it to be connected to any Intrinsically Safe Approved portable radio. Once connected, the resulting I.S. rating is that of the lowest
of the two devices.
IMPORTANT, read Control Drawing 06600G-01
WARNINGS: The Series C6600i is intrinsically safe (I.S.) when connected to an
intrinsically safe approved radio.
When connected to a non-I.S. radio. The resulting system is not
intrinsically safe.
Series C6600i is not approved for use in oxygen enriched atmospheres.
Do not re-wire Series C6600i for use with a radio other than that for
which it was originally intended.
Do not connect or disconnect Series C6600i to/from a radio while in an
atmosphere known to be hazardous.
Do not use equipment that is damaged (cracked or broken housings, cable
entry grommets/strain reliefs, cables).
The Radio Adapter Body PTT does not carry any batteries or any user
serviceable parts. To maintain intrinsic safety, the unit must not be tampered with in any way.
13. Remote Push-To-Talk capability is built into each Series C6600i Radio Adapter. A selection
of Remote PTT switches are available to make communicating in harsh or difficult environments easier. Remote PTT switch plugs into the socket on the bottom of PTT Radio Adapter housing.
14. Maintenance on the Series C6600i Radio Adapter is minimal. The Radio Adapter has no batteries to change and the housing is made of fire retardant material, it is waterproof and extremely rugged. Washing and cleaning for hygiene purposes should be done as required. There are no field replaceable parts.
15. Maintenance of the Series H6600i Headset. Reference the Illustrated Parts Breakdown with Electrical Schematic, Fit and Maintenance Instructions packaged with the Series H6600i Headsets.
16. Routine Checks:
Check that the housing of the Radio Adapter is not damaged (cracked or broken).
Check that the rubber cable-entry grommet on top of the Radio Adapter housing is not
cracked and has no cuts.
Check that the cable strain relief on the bottom of the Radio Adapter housing is not broken or
loose.
Check that there are no cuts gouges on the cables.
WARNING: Do not use if the unit fails any of the checks indicated above.
17. Repairs to the C6600i Radio Adapter. The Radio Adapter is a sealed unit and MUST NOT be opened. Failure to comply with this instruction may invalidate the intrinsic safety approval.
