It is recommended to connect the IPv4 Host-Side Device with a Cross-Over LAN cable.
The IPv6 Network-Side interface can be connected to any hub or switch using a
standard straight Cat-5 cable. The console port can be connected to a serial port on a
PC and set for 9600 baud, no parity, one (1) stop bit, using a 9pin null modem cable.

2. Network examples
In our example network, Figure 1-2 shows the actual IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of each
network device.

After the Transformer has been configured both the IPv4 and IPv6 devices will each
have a different perspective, as shown in Figures 1-2 and 1-3. From an IPv4
perspective, all IPv6 addresses appear to have IPv4 address and vice versa.

2. Configure IPv4 and IPv6 Interfaces from serial port
Most of the Transformer configuration is done using the webGUI. However, before you
can access the webGUI from the IPv4-only host or IPv6-only host you must configure
either the Transformer’s IPv4 or IPv6 interface(s) through the serial console interface.
When you first connect to the serial console interface, you are prompted to login. Any
login id will do, but we use admin in this example. Next, a simple menu is displayed.
Select item 1, Set up IPv4 and IPv6 interfaces.
Now you will be prompted to supply addresses for the IPv4 and IPv6 ports on the
Transformer. All addresses used here are those in the Fig. 1-2 network diagram. Note
that the prompts refer to the IPv4 port as the host-side interface and the IPv6 port as the
network-side interface.
IPv4 address for host-side interface (172.31.0.1): 192.168.1.98
IPv4 subnet mask length for host-side interface (24):
IPv6 address for network-side interface, or "none" (none): 2008::100:1

3. Connect to webGUI
Start a web browser program on the IPv4-only host, like Internet Explorer or Firefox, and
use it to browse the IPv4 address. In our example, the URL is http://192.168.1.98. If
this is the first time you are visiting the Transformer webGUI, you will be prompted for a
User Name and Password. The default User Name is admin and the Password in
mono. Enter these values and click OK. Once you do this, you will be at the home
page for the webGUI.

4. Configure Host-side Device IP
Along the left-hand side of every webGUI page, there is a set of links that will bring you
to pages that allow you to configure different aspects of the Transformer. Select the
System: Interface Setup link. This will bring you to the page shown in Figure 4-1,
below.

You need to enter two items on the Interface Setup page. For the Host-side Device IPv4
address, enter the IPv4 address value, in our example, this is 192.168.1.99. Make sure
that the subnet mask is set. In our example, this is 24. . For the Network-side Device
IPv6 address, enter the IPv6 address value, in our example, this is 2008::100:99. Make
sure that the subnet mask is set. In our example, this is 64.
For the Transformer Host-Side IPv4 and Network-side IPv6 addresses, the values have
already been set from the serial console in the previous step. For this exercise, you
should leave the remaining fields blank.
When you’re finished, click the Save button. This is at the bottom of the page, so you
may have to scroll down to find it.

5. Configure Static Address Map
Here we will configure Static IPv6 to IPv6 address mappings for each IPv6 device in our
network. Select the System: Static address map link. This will bring you to the page
shown in Figure 5-1 below. This page allows you to associate an IPv4 address with an
IPv6-only host so that your IPv4-only host can communicate with it. You will enter IPv4-
to-IPv6 address mappings for the IPv6-only host. Start by selecting the link. This
will bring you to the page shown in Figure 5-2.

Enter the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses as shown in Fig 1-3. From the IPv4 legacy device’s
perspective, the IPv6 device now has an IPv4 address. After you enter an IPv4/IPv6
address pair, select Save. This will bring you back to the page shown in Figure 5-1
above. Select the link again to enter another pair, if needed.

6. Configure Static Routes (if using an IPv6 router)
Select the System: Static routes link. This will bring you to the page shown in below in
Figure

For the Protocol, select IPv6, and for the Destination, enter the word default. For the
Gateway field, enter the IPv6 address value of the router. Then select Save.

This will bring you back to the System: Static routes page. Select Apply Changes to
save the static route you entered. The ‘e’ with a circle around it is to edit the entry and
the ‘x’ with a circle around it is to exit the screen once all changes have been entered
and applied.

7. Reboot
The configuration changes we made on the System: Interface Setup page require you
to reboot the Transformer for the changes to take effect. Reboots are only required
during the initial configuration of the Transformer. Routine configuration changes, such
as those you would make on the System: Static address map page, don’t require
reboots.
Select the Diagnostics link. This will reveal a set of links that are normally hidden.
Select the Diagnostics: Reboot system link. Select Reboot, and when asked if you
are sure, select Yes. It takes about one minute for the Transformer to reboot.
