System and Memory Configuration Overview
SYSTEM AND MEMORY OVERVIEW
• The IBM x3200 M3 (7327, 7328) and x3250 M3 (4251, 4252) have 6 DIMM slots.
• DIMMs are installed in pairs, the pairs are slots: (1,4), (2,5) and (3,6)
• The system supports either unbuffered or registered memory, you cannot mix the two types.
• Unbuffered DIMMs (DRIX1333U/2GB):
o If you mix ECC and non ECC unbuffered DIMMs in the system, the system will run in non-ECC mode.
o You can install a maximum of 4 Unbuffered DIMMs, in matched pairs - slots (1 and 4), and slots (2 and 5).
o Do not install unbuffered DIMMs in slots 3 or 6.
o The maximum amount of unbuffered memory the system will support is 8GB. (4XDRIX1333U/2GB).
• Registered DIMMs (DRIX1333R/1GB, DRIX1333RD/2GB, DRIX1333R2/4GB, DRIX1066RQ/4GB, DRIX1066RQ/8GB):
o The maximum amount of registered ECC memory the system will support is 32GB (4XDRIX1066RQ/8GB).
o The memory will run at the lowest speed of an installed matched pair. For example if you install 2X1333MHz registered DIMMs
in slots (1 and 4), and 2X1066MHz registered DIMMs slots (2 and 5); the system will run at 1066MHz.
o Registered DIMMs are only supported in models with the Intel Xeon 3400 series processor.
o The system will only support 4 quad rank registered DIMMs in slots (1 and 4), and slots (2 and 5).
• Speed Table according to how you populate the system:

MEMORY INSTALLATION
1. Power down the system and remove all power cables.
2. Remove the system cover by pressing the cover release button and sliding the cover off (Figure 1).
Figure 1 Figure 2
3. Remove any DIMMs to replace by pressing down on the latches on the side of the slot and pulling the DIMM straight up. (Figure 2)
4. Install Dataram memory according to the guidelines on previous page. Make sure the key is lined up correctly so you do not damage the
DIMM. When the DIMM is installed correctly the latches will snap back into place. (Figure 3).
5. Refer to Figure 4 below to insure you are installing the memory in the correct slots.
6. Put the cover back on, plug in the power cords and power on the system. When you restart the system it will indicate that the memory
configuration has changed.
