IMPORTANT: Keep a copy of your bill of sale. The date on the bill establishes the warranty period, should service be required. If service is performed, it is in your best interest to obtain and keep all receipts.


The PRODUCT REGISTRATION CARD should be filled in completely, signed, and returned. This information will register your product and help us to serve you quickly in the future if necessary.

WARNING: If the information in this manual is not followed, a fire or explosion may occur, resulting in property damage, personal injury, or death.







Remove all tape and packaging wrap before using the oven. If any glue remains, touch the residue with the sticky side of the packaging tape, or use a cloth soaked with rubbing alcohol. Use caution as rubbing alcohol is flammable. Rinse with warm water and wipe dry.

Destroy the carton and plastic bags after the range is unpacked. Children should not use packaging material for play. Cartons covered with rugs, bedspreads, or plastic sheets can become air-tight chambers. Remove all staples from the carton. Staples can cause severe cuts and destroy finishes if they come in contact with appliances or furniture.

Be safety conscious. The perparation of food in an oven requires temperatures that could cause severe burns. Before using this, or any, new appliance, carefully read and follow all instructions.



Be sure your appliance is properly installed and grounded by a qualified technician in accordance with all local and national codes and ordinances. Install only per installation instructions provided in this Owner’s Use and Care Guide. Be sure leveling legs are in place at the bottom corners of the range. If necessary, raise or lower the leveling legs at the base of the range by turning clockwise or counterclockwise to ensure a level range.

Ask your dealer to recommend a qualified technician or an authorized repair service.

WARNING: Failure to act in accordance with instructions regarding the following situations may result in propery damage, bodily harm, or death.


Never leave children alone or unattended in the area where an appliance is in use. Children should never be allowed to sit or stand on any part of this appliance. Never leave the oven door open when the range is unattended.

Do not store items of interest to children in the cabinets above a range or on the backgaurd of a range. Children climbing on the range to reach items could be seriously injured.



Do not allow children to climb or play around the range. The weight of a child on an open oven door may cause the range to tip, resulting in serious burns or other injury.

USER SERVICING: Do not repair or replace any part of the appliance unless specifically recommended in this owner’s guide. All other servicing should be done only by a qualified technician. This will reduce the risk of personal injury and damage to the range.

• Storage in or on appliance: Flammable materials should not be stored in an oven, near surface elements, or in the storage drawer. This includes paper, plastic and cloth items, such as cookbooks, plasticware and towels, as well as flammable liquids.

Do not use the oven for storage. Do not store explosives, such as aerosol cans, on or near the range.

Remove the oven door from any unused range if it is to be stored or discarded.

Stepping, leaning, or sitting on the doors or storage drawer of this range can result in serious injuries and can cause damage to the range.

WARNING: The following situations could result in property damage or bodily harm


Do not touch surface elements, areas near the elements, or interior surfaces of the oven. Both surface elements and oven may become hot enough to cause burns. During and after use, do not touch or let clothing or other flammable materials touch these areas until they have had sufficient time to cool. Among these areas are the cooktop, surfaces facing the cooktop, the oven vent openings, and surfaces near these openings, oven door and windows.

Never use your appliance to warm or heat the room. Operating your range without utensils or pans to absorb the unit’s heat risks damaging the surface, knobs, and controls.

Wear proper apparel; lose fitting or hanging garments should never be worn while using the appliance. Do not let clothing or other flammable materials contact surface elements or interior surfaces of the oven until they have had sufficient time to cool.

Never modify or alter the construction of the range. Do not remove leveling legs, panels, wire covers, anti-tip brackets or any other permanent part of the product.

When heating fat or grease, watch it closely. Fat or grease may catch fire if allowed to become too hot.

Do not use water or flour on grease fires. Smother the fire with a pan lid, baking soda, or use a dry chemical or foam-type extinguisher.

Use only dry potholders; wet or damp potholders on hot surfaces could result in burns from steam. Do not let the potholders touch hot heating areas. Do not use a towel or other bulky cloth instead of potholder.

Do not use aluminum foil to line the oven bottom except as suggested in the cleaning section of this manual. Improper use of aluminum foil may result in a fire hazard. Foil may also interfere with heat circulation and damage the range.

Placement of oven racks: Always place oven rack in the desired location while the oven is cool. If racks must be moved when the oven is hot, use potholders and grasp the rack with both hands to reposition. Do not let potholders contact hot oven walls. Remove all cookware from the rack before moving.

Do not heat unopened food containers. Build-up of pressure may cause the container to burst and result in injury.

Keep the oven vent duct unobstructed. The oven vent is located along the bottom of the backgaurd. Touching the surfaces in the vent area when the oven is being operated may cause severe burns. Also, do not place plastic or heat-sensitive items on or near the oven vents. These items could melt or ignite.

A glowing light indicates a switch is turned on. Be sure it indicates the element you want to use. Let it serve as a reminder to turn off the element when cooking is completed.

Use care when operating oven door; Stand to the side of the oven when opening the oven door. Slowly open the door to allow hot air or steam to escape before removing or replacing food.

Place a pan of food on the element before turning it on, and turn the element off before removing the pan.

Cookware handles should be turned inward and not extend over adjacent elements, to reduce the risk of burns, ignition of flammable materials, and spillage due to unintentional contact with the cookware.

Never leave the surface elements unattended.

Boil-over may cause smoking and greasy spills may catch fire or a pan which has boiled dry may melt.

• Do not place hands between the spring tension hinge and the oven door frame when you are removing the oven door. You could pinch your fingers.





Do not touch a hot oven light bulb with a damp cloth, as it could break. Disconnect the electrical service cord or shut off the power to the oven before removing and replacing the bulb.

Allow parts to cool to room temperature before touching or removing them from the range. When a surface element is first turned off, the element can be hot enough to cause burns.

Clean the range regularly to keep all parts free of fat or grease which could catch fire. Exhaust fan ventilating hoods and grease filters should be cleaned regularly. Do not allow fat or grease to accumulate. Greasy deposits in the fan could catch fire. Refer to the hood manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning.

Glazed Cookware: Only certain types of glass, glass/ceramic, ceramic, earthenware, or other glazed cookwares are suitable for rangetop service without breaking, due to the sudden change in temperature. Check the cookware manufacturer’s recommendations for rangetop use.

Do not place plastic salt and pepper shakers, spoon holders, or plastic wrappings on top of the range. These items could melt or ignite.

Do not use trailing towels, damp cloths or aprons when handling pots and pans. Always use dry mitts or potholders to prevent accidents.

Do not use a wok equipped with a metal ring that extends beyond the burner. Because this ring traps heat, the element and grate could be damaged.

Do not clean the oven door gasket. The door gasket is essentially for a good seal. Care should be taken not to rub, damage, or move the gasket.

It is good practive for each household to have an appropriate fire extinguisher for use in the event of a house fire.

Disconnect the range from electrical supply before attempting to service or move it.

NOTE: The instructions appearing in this owner’s guide are not meant to cover every possible condition and situation that may occur. Common sense and caution must be practiced when operating and maintaining any appliance.



Surface Cooking:

Use lids when surface cooking. A lid traps steam and uses it to speed up the cooking process. If you have a pressure cooker or vegetable steamer, use it. You will save time and cut energy costs.

Use medium-weight, flat bottomed pans. Choose pans made of metals that conduct heat well.

When cooking on a surface burner, use as little water as possible to reduce cooking time.

Oven Cooking:

Preheat the oven only when a recipe tells you. Put roasts and casseroles into a cold oven, then turn the oven on.

Opening the oven door often to check on foods wastes energy.

Use the oven to prepare complete meals. For instance, start a roast, add vegetables when the meat is halfcooked, and then warm rolls or dessert after the main dishes are cooked.

Thaw frozen foods before cooking. Thawed food requires less cooking energy than frozen food.

Make it a habit to turn the oven off before removing the cooked food.



Be sure the appliance is properly installed and grounded by a qualified technician. It is the responsibility of the technician to be certain that your range is properly installed. Situations caused by improper installation are not covered under the warranty. Any expenses incurred due to such situations will not be paid by the manufacturer of the appliance.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of tipping the appliance by abnormal usage or improper door loading, the appliance must be secured by properly installing the anti-tip device packed with the appliance. To check if the device is installed and engaged properly, carefully tip the range forward. The anti-tip device should engage and prevent the range from tipping over.

If this range is removed for any reason, service or cleaning etc,. it must be replaced as outlined in the installation instructions, before placing the range back in operation.



All free-standing ranges must be level to obtain proper cooking results. The leveling legs should be screwed into the corner brackets. Place a level, or a pan or measuring cup partially filled with water, level on oven rack. Adjust leveling legs until the range is level. The top of the side panels should be level with countertop or work surface.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to keep the leg levelers. Leveling of the range is very important.


Your range is grounded with a three-conductor (three-prong plug) supply cord which


will ground the range when plugged into a similar grounded wall receptacle.



If the backgaurd of the range has a clock or light, connect the cord from the backgaurd into the special terminal block located at the top of the main back directly under the backgaurd supply cord.

The appliance must be electrically grounded when installed in accordance with local codes.






CAUTION: The temperature of the cooktop surface increases with the number of elements


that are on. With 3 or 4 elements turned on, surface temperatures are high and caution should


be excercised when around the cooktop.


Coil Elements: Four switches for the surface elements provide infinite heat settings. The numbers on the dial serve as a reference. The switch can be turned to any setting to provide the exact heat required.

An indicator light located on or near the knob will light up to warn when the surface element is on.

Drip bowls should be used at all times. Do not use aluminum foil to cover drip bowls. Use of aluminum foil could result in a shock hazard, improper cooking, or damage to the element.

Prolonged use of elements without pots can cause damage and early failure.

Use of round bottom woks is not recommended.

Use of large pots for canning can cause discolouration of cooktop if the pot is larger than the element and is used for extended periods of time. There should be no more than 1-11/2 inches (2.5-3.7cm) of the pot extending beyond the element.


A lower setting for small quantities.

A higher setting for larger quantities.

A lower setting when a lid is used.

How to Operate the Auto-Temp Control:

This element features a pan sensor thermostat that senses the temperature of the pan bottom. To activate the control, push and turn the knob clockwise only to the desired setting. It will heat at full power until the set temperature is reached, then cycle on and off to maintain the set temperature.

What Cookware To Use:

To ensure optimum cooking performance, use heavy gauged, flat bottomed cookware that conforms to the size of the element. Evenness of the pan bottom can be checked by using a ruler. An undersized or badly warped pan will expose a portion of the element, wasting heat and energy and increasing the possibility of spillover. There should be no more than a 1-11/2 inch (2.5-3.7cm) overhang. Hot air trapped between the pot and the cooktop could eventually harm the cooktop. Woks, pressure cookers, canners and deep fat fryers etc., must have flat bottoms of the correct size to work efficiently.

Note: Most canners have a much larger bottom diameter than the solid elements. Canners can be used as long as they have straight sides, are heavy gauged, have flat bottoms, and do not have more than 1-11’2 inches (2.5-3.7cm) overhang.

The Bubble Test - To determine how well cookware will work on solid elements:

1)Put one inch (2.5 cm) of water into a pot.

2)Slowly bring water to a boil.

3)Watch bubble formationif you have volcanic activity on one side and seed pearl bubbles on the other, you know that you are probably going to have 1/2 raw and 1/2 scorched food.

4)To double check, rotate the pot 90 degrees. Slowly bring fresh water to a boil. If similar bubbles appear in the same area of the saucepan (if they follow the pot), the problem lies in the cookware. If the bubbles appear on the same area as before on the element (but not in the pot), then the problem is with the heat source.


















Baking:Any recipe for baking or roasting will give you an average temperature and a range of




time at which the food is to be cooked. You may adjust temperature and time when you become





familiar with your range.






To Operate the Oven:

1)Turn the OVEN TEMPERATURE CONTROL to the desired setting.

2)Set timer for manual operation, on models with analog or digital timers, by

pushing the STOP button in, electromechanical timer only.

3) Set OVEN SELECTOR CONTROL (where provided) to BAKE.

4) The oven indicator light will stay on until the oven reaches the set temperature. During cooking, the indicator light will cycle on and off as elements are maintaining the set temperature.

5) When the baking is done, turn the OVEN TEMPERATURE and the SELECTION CONTROL (where provided) to the OFF position.

Oven Racks:

Your oven is equipped with two specially shaped oven racks. If a rack is pulled straight out, the stop positions will be engaged. To remove a rack from the oven, pull straight out and lift. Be sure the oven rack is cleared before attempting to remove it from the side supports. Each side wall of the oven has three equally spaced ribs on which the oven rack rests. On some models one of the racks is the standard or flat type. It may be placed on any one of the 3 pairs of supporting ribs so that you can place food at whatever distance from the heating element you consider best. The second rack may be of the “off-set” type. The shelf of this rack crosses the oven slightly above the supporting ribs to give you additional in-between positions.






Broiling meats, chicken, or fish




Cookies, cakes, pies, biscuits, and muffins

Air Circulation into the Oven:

To cook food evenly, hot air must be able to circulate.

For best air circulation and baking results allow two inches of space around bake ware and be sure pans and bake ware do not touch each other, the oven door, sides or back of the oven cavity.

The hot air must circulate around the pans and bake ware in the oven for even heat to reach around the food.

Center of rack

Side by side or slightly staggered

Opposite corners of rack, equally spaced across rack. Do not place pans directly over top of one another.

Preheating Oven (on standard clean ovens only):

Your range is equipped for fast, dual element preheat. This means that when you set your Oven Temperature Control directly to the desired baking temperature, both top element and lower element will come on. This will bring your oven to the desired temperature quickly. The top element will remain on only until desired temperature has been reached. After the selected temperature has been reached, the bottom element will cycle on and off to maintain the set temperature.

NOTE: Should the oven door be opened during the normal baking mode, allowing the temperature to drop lower than 100°F (38°C), the top element will come on to help restore the selected temperature more rapidly.

Important: Before baking or broiling manually (non-automatic), please check the following:

1)Make sure the timer is set to manual position, STOP button pushed in on analog and digital clocks, electromechanical timers only.

2)The clock registers the correct time of day.

3)The time on the START TIME dial agrees with the time on the clock (analog and digital clocks only).











• When broiling, only the top oven element comes on. Food is cooked by radiant heat from the




To Broil at Maximum Temperature (Regular Broil):

1)Set the OVEN control to BROIL.

2)Set the selector control (where provided) to BROIL.

3)Pull the oven door open to the first stop (about 4”/10cm).

When you are through, turn oven control to OFF and selector control (where provided) to OFF.

To Broil at Controlled Temperatures (Auto Vari Broil):

1)Set the OVEN control first to BROIL, then to the desired temperature.

2)On self-clean models, set selector control to BROIL.

3)Place food on the oven rack and close the door.

The temperature may be controlled by adjusting the control setting higher or lower.

Programmed Oven Cooking:

You will find your Automatic clock timer useful as a kitchen clock. In addition, the automatic settings permit the oven and auto appliance outlet to be operated automatically at the time you select.

Before You Start To Cook:

1)Place the food in the oven.

2)Check that the clock is set at the correct time of day.

3)Set selector control to AUTO (where provided).

NOTE: Foods of a highly perishable nature, such as milk, poultry, eggs, fish, pork, etc., should not be in the oven for more than two hours before or after cooking.




Press and hold the CLOCK pad.

Press the UP or DOWN ARROW pads to select the time of day.

Press the CLOCK pad to start.


Press the TIMER pad.

Press the UP or DOWN ARROW pads to increase or decrease the time in one-minute increments. Press and hold the pads to increase or decrease the time in 10-minute increments. The timer can be set for any amount of time from 00:01 minutes to 11:59 hours.

Press the TIMER pad to start.

NOTE: The timer does not start or stop cooking. It serves as an extra timer in the kitchen that will beep when the set time has run out. While the timer is active, press and hold the UP or DOWN ARROW pads to increase or decrease the time. To cancel the timer before the set time has run out, press the CLOCK pad.



Coil Elements: The surface elements are self cleaning, burning off any spillage. However, removal of large pieces of food or excess oil is recommended to prevent smoking. To remove an element: Ensure it is cold, then raise the front (approximately 1” / 2.5cm) and pull it out of its receptacle. To replace, reverse this procedure. All elements of the same size are interchangeable. DO


Control Panel and Knobs:

• Before cleaning the control panel be sure that the knobs are in the OFF position. Clean with a soft cloth and warm soapy water. Remove residues and dry carefully; excess water in and around the controls may damage the stove.

The control knobs may be removed for easier cleaning. To remove, pull them straight off the stem. Clean with soft cloth and warm soapy water; rinse well.

To replace knobs after cleaning, connect the flat side of the knob cavity to the control rod and press against the knob to reconnect.

Oven Racks:

• To make the racks slide more easily you may apply a small amount of vegetable oil or cooking oil to a paper towel and wipe the edges of the racks with it.

Broiler Pan:

Remove broiler pan from oven after broiling and carefully pour out the grease from the pan into a proper container.

Wash and rinse the broiler pan using hot water and a soap-filled scouring pad.

If food has burned on, sprinkle with detergent

while it is hot and cover it with wet paper towels or a dishcloth. Soaking the pan will remove burned-on food.

• Do not use commercial oven cleaners, cleaning powders, steel wool pads or harsh abrasives on any surfaces. Vinegar and water solution may be used.

To Remove/Replace the Storage Drawer:

Pull the drawer all the way out until it stops.

Lift the drawer by its handle and pull all of the way out.

To replace, reverse steps above.

To Replace Oven Light:

• Ensure the oven light is switched to OFF; Remove the glass cover (where provided). Replace bulb with a 40 watt appliance bulb for standard ranges.

Oven Surface:

Be sure to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.

Do not use oven cleaners, cleaning powders, steel wool pads, synthetic fiber pads, or any other materials that may damage the surface finishing.

If any acid, grease, sugar, etc. spills on surfaces while they are hot, use a dry paper towl or soft cloth to wipe it up right away. When the surface has cooled, clean with soft cloth and warm soapy water; rinse well.

You may also use a solution of vinegar and water to clean the oven surface. Use vinegar to remove hard stains (white stains).

Heavy spattering or spillover may require cleaning with a mildly abrasive cleaner.

Oven Cavity:

Do not use oven cleaners, cleaning powders, steel wool pads, synthetic fiber pads, or any other materials that may damage the surface finishing.

To clean the oven bottom, gently lift the bake

element. This will allow easier access to the oven bottom for cleaning. Be careful not to raise the element more than 4 or 5 inches from the resting position.

• Clean with warm soapy water; rinse and dry with a clean soft cloth.

Lift-Off Oven Door:

The oven door is removable for cleaning. To remove:

Open the door to the fully opened position.

Pull up the lock located on both hinge supports and engage it in the hook of the hinge levers. You may have to apply a little downward pressure on the door to pull the lock fully over the hooks.

Grasp the door by the sides; pull the bottom of the door up and toward you to disengage the hinge supports. Keep pulling the bottom of the door toward you while rotating the top of the door toward the range to completely disengage hinge levers.

To replace: reverse the process above.

Cleaning the Inner Door:

Soap and water should suffice; Heavy spattering or spillovers may require cleaning with a mildly abrasive cleaner.

Use a glass cleaner to clean the glass on the inside of the door.

Cleaning the Outer Door:

Use soap and water to thoroughly clean the top, bottom, sides, and front of the oven door; rinse well.

Do not let water drip into the vent openings.

Use a glass cleaner to clean the glass on the outside of the door.
