Step 1: Loca te the CPU sock et on the mot herbo ard
▶
Note
»» Do not touch processor contacts to prevent damaging th e CPU.
Step 2: Using a screwdriver, disengage ( Unlock ) the socket actuator, as shown in figure below.
Step 3: Align the gold tria ngle on the CPU with the similar mar king on the soc ket. If the pro cessor do es not drop completely into the socket, turn the socket actuator to the open position until the processor drops comp letely in.
57
Page 59
Step 4: While gently holding the processor down with your finger, secure the processor in the socket with a screwdriver by turning the socket actuator to the “Lock” position.
▶
Note
»» The CPU fits only in one correct orientation. Do not force the CPU into the socket to prevent damaging t he CPU.
Install a Cooler
The system m ust not be operated without a coo le r (heat sink and fan) to provide the necessarily cooling. Install t he cooli ng uni t suppl ied as follows:
1. Install t he correct CPU as described above.
2. Align the screw holes of the cooler rear retention bracket with the mounting holes on the underside of the motherboard, located at the four corners of the CPU location. Ins ert into the holes and turn the motherboard ov er .
3. Place t he cooler assembly on top of the CPU with the cooling fins al igned with the memory slots. This will allow the fan to provide cooling the chipset heat sink. Align the screws with the screw hol es of the r ear retention brac ket.
4. Tighten each screw halfway to secure the cooler assembly to the motherboard. Then gradual l y tig hten all fo ur screw s . Do not full y tig hte n the fir st screw befo re pa rtially tighteni ng the ot her screws as this may apply uneven press ure to the CPU, causing damage.
▶
Note
»» Be careful not to touch the the rma l pad on the underside of the heatsi nk. Thi s pad is made o f thermal compound and is deformable. It is designed to make optimal thermal contact with the CPU. No additional thermal compound is req uired. »» Make sure that good t hermal co nta ct i s made betwee n the processor and heat sink. Insufficient contact or incorrect use of heat sink, fan, or thermal compound can cause the processor to overheat, which may crash the system or cause permanent damage to the CPU. »» Do not forget to co nnec t the CPU fan connector. »» For proper installation, please kindly refer to the installation manual of your CPU cooler.
