1 Check for primary fault codes

Verification
Conditions
Turn keyswitch ON.
Connect the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent.
Action
Use the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent to read the fault codes.
Specification
Before troubleshooting this fault code, troubleshoot any fault code that is active or has more than one inactive count within the last 25 engine operating hours from the following list:
Aftertreatment fuel: 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1928
Fuel: 559, 2372

2 Low pressure fuel system component is malfunctioning
Solution: S00000640
Verification
Conditions
Turn keyswitch ON.
Action
Verify the fuel system is primed. Refer to Procedure 005-234
Measure the fuel pump gear pump outlet pressure at idle and at high idle. Refer to Procedure 005-236
If engine will not start, then perform the check during cranking.
Specification
If the fuel pump gear pump outlet pressure is not within specification, then proceed to Linked Solutions section.

If the above checks are all within specification, then a malfunctioning fuel gear pump has been detected
Repair
Replace the fuel pump gear pump. Refer to Procedure 005-025
Validation
Connect all components
Connect the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent.
Disable the fault code.
Operate the engine within the "Conditions for Clearing the Fault Code" found in the Overview section of the troubleshooting procedure.
Verify that the fault code is no longer active.
Check ECM Calibration Revision History
Use the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent to find the current ECM code and revision number in the ECM.
Compare the ECM code and revision number in the ECM to the calibration revisions listed in the ECM Calibration Revision History Database for applicable changes related to this fault code.

2.1 Air in fuel check
Solution: S00001205
Verification
Conditions
Turn keyswitch ON.
Verify adequate fuel level in the tank
Action
Allow the engine to reach operating temperature.
If engine will not start, then perform the check during cranking.
Inspect for air being ingested into the fuel. Refer to Procedure 006-003
Specification
If air is present in the fuel flow, then a damaged fuel supply line, loose or damaged fuel filter, or a loose connection has been detected.

Tighten the loose fitting or replace the damaged component that allows air to enter the fuel system. Refer to Procedure 006-003
Validation
Connect all components
Connect the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent.
Disable the fault code.
Operate the engine within the "Conditions for Clearing the Fault Code" found in the Overview section of the troubleshooting procedure.
Verify that the fault code is no longer active.

Conditions
Turn keyswitch OFF.
Action
Measure the fuel inlet restriction. Refer to Procedure 006-020
Specification
If the inlet restriction is excessive, look for the root cause: Inspect the following components if applicable:
Suction side fuel filters plugged.
Fuel heater restricted.

OEM fuel lines restricted.
Refer to OEM Service Manual
ECM cooling plate plugged. Refer to Procedure 006-006
ECM cooling plate check valve restricted. Refer to Procedure 006-006
OEM fuel lines restricted.

Fuel tank stand pipes restricted.

2.3 Fuel lift pump check
Solution: S00001207
Verification
Conditions
Turn keyswitch ON.
Action
Listen for fuel lift pump operation.
If the fuel lift pump does not operate after turning the keyswitch ON, then measure the resistance in the fuel lift pump circuit. Refer to Procedure 019-397
Measure the lift pump pressure. Refer to Procedure 005-236
Specification
If the resistance is not within specification, then proceed to the Repair section.
If the fuel lift pump pressure is not within specification, then a malfunctioning fuel lift pump has been detected. Refer to Procedure 005-236

2.4 OEM fuel system component check

Verification
Conditions
Turn keyswitch OFF.
Action
Visually check fuel tank for adequate fuel supply. Refer to Procedure 006-024
Visually inspect the engine fuel supply lines for signs of kinks, damage or fuel leaks. Refer to Procedure 006-024
Visually inspect all fuel system gasket locations for signs of leakage. Refer to Procedure 006-024
Specification
If there is any damage or leaks found in the OEM fuel system, then proceed to the Repair section.

3 Aftertreatment fuel shutoff manifold is malfunctioning
Solution: S00003042
Verification
Conditions
Turn keyswitch ON.
Connect the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent.
Disconnect the aftertreatment fuel supply line from the aftertreatment fuel injector. Refer to Procedure 011-042
Connect the fuel extension line.
Action
Run the engine at idle.
Use the recommended Cummins® electronic service tool or equivalent.
Perform the Aftertreatment Fuel Injector Leak Test. Refer to Procedure 011-054
Specification
If fuel does not flow continuously from the line during the 60 second aftertreatment fuel injector flow test, then a malfunctioning aftertreatment fuel shutoff valve has been detected.

4 Fuel filter restriction
Solution: S00000900
Verification
Conditions
Turn keyswitch ON.
Engine running.
Action
Perform the Fuel Filter Restriction Test. Refer to Procedure 005-236
Specification
If the outlet pressure of the filter is within specification, then proceed to the next solution.
If pressure from the fuel pump gear pump is within specification and the differential pressure does not meet specification a plugged or blocked fuel filter has been detected.
If the pressure is not within specification at the fuel pressure filter inlet then a malfunction of the fuel pump gear pump has been detected.

Replace fuel filter. Refer to Procedure 006-065
Replace the fuel pump gear pump. Refer to Procedure 005-025
