for damages resulting from this.
SAFETY
Warning! Take care if the device detects
unidentifi ed items. They can be harmless waste,
buried contaminated items, ammunition, mines or
duds. In case of any doubt, the responsible
security organs must be informed.
Work on the device may only be carried out by

DESCRIPTION
The metal detector consists of:
Housing
The housing consists of impact-resistant, water-repellent plastic. It is used as a retainer for the
electrical and electronic equipment and also as a handle.
The weight distribution and arrangement of the operating buttons enable comfortable
single-handed operation.
Measuring rod
The waterproof attached aluminium pipe incorporates the precisely justified sensor coils.
Power supply
6 1.5 volt “AA” batteries for approximately 25 h. operating period. The batteries are located in a
quick-release battery holder.
Control panel
The display, switch and key are located on the front side of the casing. The field intensity and
volume are set with the “PLUS – MINUS” keys.
Display
The display shows the intensity of a signal received as a figure between 0 and 99 and as an
analogue value via a bar chart.
The bar chart also shows the side of the measurement point on which the centre of the item is
located.
Moreover, the volume level set and the field intensity are both displayed.
Loudspeaker
A water resistant loudspeaker is used to emit acoustic signals. A low standard tone changes in
accordance with the signal intensity from objects detected.
Carrying case
A carrying case with a shoulder strap which protects the device during transport is provided.

FUNCTION
The metal detector MAGNA-TRAK can be used to locate ferromagnetic items by evaluating
magnetic fields. Two mechanical and electronic sensors which are matched are located within the
global magnetic field in magnetic equilibrium.
This equilibrium is shown by an even, low humming sound.
If the magnetic equilibrium is influenced by the presence of ferromagnetic items, different signals
arise at both sensors, disturbing the preset equilibrium. A low humming sound indicates that no
ferromagnetic items have been located (pos. 0). The sound changes in relation to the item size and
distance continuously variably up to a high-pitched whistling sound (pos. 53 - 99).
Note: Items with no iron content are not registered.
USE UNDER SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Surroundings
Ferromagnetic items in the close vicinity of the operator can falsify measurement results.
These include, for example, shoe studs, tools brought along, watches etc.
Use in water
The device can also be used to locate ferromagnetic items under water. (Fig. 5)
Do not immerse the display housing in water! Items with no iron content are not registered.
VICINITY OF FERROMAGNETIC ITEMS
Measurements made close to iron fencing, parked cars and devices with iron content should be
taken at an even distance from these. (Fig 6)
The disturbance fields from these items can be suppressed using the “Erase” switch.

Rough search
Hold the device at a 45° angle to the ground surface and scan the ground area to be examined in a
zigzag pattern. (Fig. 7)
Ensure even ground clearance!
Detailed search
If a ferromagnetic item is recognised, the device must be held vertically to the ground surface and the
center of the item determined using short, crossing movements. (Fig. 8)
ITEM RECOGNITION
Visual LCD display
The value displayed between 0 an 99 enables conclusions to be drawn regarding location depth,
distance and size of the item detected. This value is displayed both as a bar diagram and as a
numerical value. (Fig. 9)
Acoustic display
Similar to the visual display, the acoustic loudspeaker signal changes too. The low standard tone’s
level and volume change if a ferromagnetic item is detected.
Blanking undesired items
When searching for ferromagnetic items in the vicinity of metallic fencing, iron bars, reinforced
steel walls, vehicles, railway tracks etc, they must be suppressed.
Suppression and showing are activated takes place by using the “Erase” switch.
The signals created by the undesired item are thus regulated to the value “0”.
Control system
The volume and sensitivity can be adjusted using the “PLUS –MINUS” key:
“Sensitivity” = signal intensity
“Volume” = loudness

APPLICATION EXAMPLES
(1) The existing small covers on the tank can be located using the signal peaks. (Fig. 10)
(2) The center of a large manhole cover can be located in the middle between the signal
peaks. (Fig. 11)
(3) The course of a pipeline can be located lengthwise by following a low signal level. If there are variances
from the center of the piping, the signal peaks are displayed both on the left and on the right. The analogue
transverse bar on the display shows whether the variance is to the right or to the left of the piping. The
device must be pointed in the direction of the course of the pipe when following its course. (Fig. 12)

FUNCIONAMIENTO
(Fig. 6)
Los campos perturbadores de estos objetos pueden ser suprimidos mediante el botón de
mando „Erase“.
