Creative DiVi Cam 316 is a high-quality yet affordable digital video
camera that allows you to create, edit, share and send photos to your
friends and family.

Creative DiVi Cam 316 is not just a digital camera. You can use it to
make short video or audio recordings, or play MP3s. You can also use
it as a webcam when you connect it to a computer.

This easy-to-follow manual shows you how to use your new Creative
DiVi Cam 316 and install all the software included on the Installation
CD. You'll find clear instructions on how to take pictures, record
videos and voices, play MP3s, and use your Creative DiVi Cam 316 as
a webcam. An overview of how to use bundled software to transfer
photos and videos from the Creative DiVi Cam 316 to your computer

1. Important Information

Please read through this manual carefully before using Creative DiVi Cam 316.
Follow all precautions to avoid damage or harm caused by improper operation.

Safety Precautions

● Do not attempt to play the Installation CD in a CD player.

Creative DiVi Cam 316 is a precision electronic device. Do not attempt to

service Creative DiVi Cam 316 yourself. Opening or removing covers may
expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards.

● Do not leave Creative DiVi Cam 316 under direct sunlight for extended
periods of time.

● Avoid contact with liquid from the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).

• If liquid gets on your skin, wipe off the liquid with a clean cloth, and

wash the affected area with water.

• If liquid gets into your eye, flush your eye with lots of fresh water

immediately. Consult a doctor for follow-up treatment.

• If liquid is swallowed, rinse your mouth out with water. Drink a few

cups of water to dilute the toxin and seek treatment immediately.

● Test out your camera before using it for important events.

● Observe copyright law

Unless agreed by the proper owner, all images or videos taken with this
camera cannot be used in violation of copyright law. Observe "No
Photography" or “No Recordings” restrictions where appropriate. Transfer
of im ag es, re co rd ings or MP3 s t o o r from yo ur cam er a’s m em or y car d must
be conducted under the constraints of copyright law.

Operational Precautions

This product consists of intricate electronic parts. To conserve the life of your
product, do not drop or subject Creative DiVi Cam 316 to impact when taking
pictures.

● Avoid using or storing Creative DiVi Cam 316 in:

• damp and dusty places

• sealed vehicles or places subject to extremely high temperatures or

direct heat

• violently turbulent environments

• areas full of smoke, oil fumes or steam

• areas subject to a strong magnetic field

• rainy or snowy environments

● Do not open the battery cover when the power is on.

● If water has entered your camera, turn the power off immediately, and

remove the batteries.

● Maintain your digital video camera:

• Use a lens brush or soft cloth to wipe the surface clean

• Do not use any solid object to hit your camera.

• Avoid scratching the lens or LCD surface.

• Do not use any detergent or volatile solutions to clean your camera.

Use a slightly damp, soft cloth only.

Creative DiVi Cam 316 has three jacks/ports for
attaching cables: Headphone jack,TV
Out and USB. These jacks/ports enable you to attach the appropriate cables from
Creative DiVi Cam 316 to your computer, TV/VCR or earphones.

4. USB Port — Use this to connect your camera to your computer via the USB

cable. You can then transfer images, recorded audio and video,or MP3s between
the camera and your computer. You can also use your camera as a webcam.

5. TV Out Port — Us e this to co nnect yo ur cam er a to a T V f or viewi ng im ag es or

videos stored in your camera.

6. Headphone jack — Use this to connect your headphones or earphones for

playing back MP3s and voice recordings stored in your digital video camera.

1. Multi-select button — This button comprises four

buttons, Up, Down, Left and Right.
In Camera and Video modes, use the Up or Down
buttons to adjust the exposure level. Use the Left button
to set the self-timer.
In Camera mode, press the Right button to set the
flash mode.
In Video mode, press the Right button to pause and
resume video recording.

2. Shutter/Record button — Press this

button to take pictures in Camera mode,
to start & stop recording videos in Video mode or
to start & stop recording audio in Voice mode.

3. LED — When you turn your camera on, the LED lights

up in green. When the camera is busy, the LED lights up in red.

4. Menu button — Press the MENU button in all modes to access the function

menu for each mode. The menus are shown on the LCD.

5. Scroller — Use this control to scroll-select menu options. To scroll-select an

option, move the scroller upwards or downwards to browse through options, and
then select the option by pressing the scroller.
In MP3 mode, move the scroller to adjust the volume.
In Camera and Video modes, move the scroller to zoom in and out.
In Playback mode, move the scroller to go to the next or previous image, video or
recording.

6. Playback button — Press this button to view your images, videos, recordings

and MP3s.

7. Power switch — To tu rn your ca mer a o n or of f, s lid e t he sw it ch do wn war ds for

one second, then release it.

Normal or Macro mode.The Macro icon appears
on the LCD when you select Macro mode.

Preparing Your Camera

1. Insert four AAA batteries into the battery compartment .

2. Insert the SD memory card according to the icon shown on the camera
when the card slot cover is open.
To take out the memory card, push the card to pop it out.

Note: Your camera’s 16MB internal memory is disabled when you insert an
SD memory card. Do not remove the card while you r came ra is tu rned o n.

Turning on your camera

Slide the Power switch down to turn on the camera. The LED lights up in green
and the LCD turns on automatically.

Note: The LCD turns off automatically if you do not use your camera for
over one minute. The camera turns off if you do not use your camera for the
time set for the Auto Power Off setting.

Recording video

Your camera can record video in MPEG4 format.
In Video mode, press the menu button. The Video Menu appears.

To select video size

1. Scroll-select Size.

2. Scroll-select the default resolution for video capture: 640X480 or

320X240.

To select white balance

1. Scroll-select White balance.

2. Scroll-select a white balance setting: Auto, Sunny, Tungsten,

Fluorescent or Cloudy.

To select video quality

1. Scroll-select Quality.

2. Scroll-select the default video quality: Fine, Normal or Basic

To start recording

1. Press the Shutter/Record button to start recording video.
While recording, move the scroller up or down to zoom in or out. You can
also use the Multi-select button to adjust the exposure level.

2. To pause recording, press the Right button. Press the button again to
continue recording.

3. To stop recording, press the Shutter/Record button.

Recording a video with the self-timer

1. Press the Left button activate the self-timer.

2. Scroll-select a self-timer interval.

3. Press the Shutter/Record button to start the self-timer. Recording starts
when the counter reaches zero.
To stop the timer, press the scroller.

Special effects

In Video mode, press the scroller to see the special effects menu.
Scroll-select an effect that you want to use.

Playing back videos

1. In Video mode, press the Playback button.

2. Scroll-select a video. Video playback starts.

To adjust the volume, press the Up or Down buttons.

To resume playback, press the button again.

4. To stop playback, press the scroller.

Viewing video thumbnails

1. In video playback mode, press the Left button.
The LCD shows six images at a time.

2. Press the button again to go back to full screen view.

Managing videos

In video playback mode, press the Menu button.

To delete a video

1. Scroll-select Delete One.

2. Scroll-select the video to delete.
Protected videos cannot be deleted.

To protect a video

1. In video playback mode, scroll-select Protect.

Activating the AE lock

Press the Shutter/Record button half way. A pair of brackets appear on the LCD.

Configuring your camera

You can set default photo capture options before taking photos with yopur
camera. In Camera mode, press the Menu button.

To select the default image size

1. Scroll-select Size.

2. Scroll-select the default image resolution: 2976X2232, 2048X1536,
1600X1200 or 640X480.

To select white balance

1. Scroll-select White balance.

2. Scroll-select a white balance setting: Auto, Sunny, Tungsten,

Fluorescent or Cloudy.

To select image quality

1. Scroll-select Quality.

2. Scroll-select the default image quality: Fine, Normal or Basic

To configure date and time display

1. Scroll-select Date stamp.

2. Scroll-select a display option: Date & Time, Date or Off.

Enabling the auto-flash

The flash is available only in Camera mode. Press the Right button to enable or
disable the auto-flash.

Adjusting the Exposure Value (EV)

In Camera mode, press the Up or Down button to adjust the exposure value.
Choose an EV value from -2.0 to +2.0.

Taking a photo

1. Use the LCD to compose your picture.

2. Press the Shutter/Record button halfway, to lock the exposure level.

3. Presss the Shutter/Record button all the way down.

Hold the camera still while the photo is taken.

Taking a photo with the self-timer

1. Press the Left button activate the self-timer.

2. Scroll-select a self-timer interval.

3. Press the Shutter/Record button to start the self-timer. The camera takes

a photo when the counter reaches zero.
To stop the timer, press the scroller.

Special effects

In Camera mode, press the scroller to see the special effects menu. Scroll-select
an effect that you want: Normal, Sepia, B&W, Negative, Red, Pink, Purple, Blue,
Green or Yellow.

Taking close-up pictures

1. Move the Macro switch upwards to select Macro mode.
The Macro icon appears on the LCD.

2. Take pictures as described in “Taking a photo”.

Viewing photos

1. In Camera mode, press the Playback button.

2. Use the scroller to go to the previous or next photo.

3. To zoom into a photo, press the scroller. Move the scroller up or down to
zoom in and out of a photo.
When zoomed in, use the Up, Down, Left or Right buttons to see the other
parts of the photo.

Trimming a photo

1. In Camera mode, press the Playback button.

2. Use the scroller to go to the previous or next photo.

3. Move the scroller up to zoom into the photo. Use the Up, Down, Left or
Right buttons to frame your new photo.

4. Press the shutter button. A list of image resolutions appears.

5. Scroll-select a resolution. This has to be smaller than that of the original
photo.
Your newly trimmed photo overwrites the original photo.

Viewing photo thumbnails

1. In camera playback mode, press the Left button.
The LCD shows eight images at a time.
Press the button again to go back to full screen view.

2. Use the scroller to see more photos.

Autoplay (slideshow)

1. In camera playback mode, press the Menu button.

2. Scroll-select Autoplay.
A slideshow of all photos stored in your camera or the memory card
starts up.

DPOF

If you are using a Digital Print Order Format (DPOF) compatible printer, you can
assign the number of copies to print for one, or all photos. Select the Set one
option to mark one photo at a time, or Set all to print one copy for all photos.

1. In camera playback mode, press the Menu button.

2. Scroll-select DPOF.

3. Scroll-select Set one.

4. Scroll-select the photo to assign copies to.
Scroll-select the photo again to increase the number of copies, to a
maximum of three.

5. Press the Menu button to save your selection.

Set all

1. In camera playback mode, press the Menu button.

2. Scroll-select DPOF.

3.
Scroll-select Set all.

Scroll-select OK to assign each photo a print value of one.
Otherwise, scroll-select Cancel to reset each value to zero.

Printing photos directly to a PictBridge compatible printer

1. In camera playback mode, press the Menu button.

2. Scroll-select Print.
You are prompted to connect your photo printer.

3. When you have properly connected your printer, you can choose to print
individual photos (Print one), or all photos (Print all).

Printing options

Scroll-select one of these options:

• photo to print — Press the Left or Right buttons to select a photo to
print (for Print one only).

• copys to print — Press the Left or Right buttons to set the number of
copies to print.

• paper size — Press the Left or Right buttons to select the paper size for
printing.

• date stamp — Press the Left or Right buttons to enable or disable date
printing.

and press the Up or Down button to adjust the level.

Navigating in a track

When playing MP3s, press the Up or Down buttons to skip to the previous or next
track. Press the Left or Right buttons to skip backward or forward in a track.

Play modes

When playing MP3s, press the Playback button to cycle through available play
modes:

• repeat one — repeat playback of current track

• repeat all — repeat playback of all tracks

• random — play all tracks in random order

• normal — play all tracks in sequence.

In MP3 mode, while you are not playing any MP3s, press the Menu button to see
the menu options.

5. Connecting your camera

Configure your camera as a webcam or a mass storage device

1. Insert four AAA batteries into the battery
compartment.

2. Connect the smaller end of the USB
cable into the USB port of your camera.

3. Connect the other end of the USB cable to your computer’s USB port.

4. The camera’s LCD Panel turns on and the PC Connection Menu is
displayed.

5. Press the Up or Down buttons to select the Mass Storage Drive option or
the PC Camera option.

Connecting Your Camera to a TV/VCR

You can connect your Creative DiVi Cam 316 to a television if you want to have a
larger view of your photos.

1. Connect the TV Output cable to the TV Output port and the television.

2. Connect the Audio Output cable to the Audio Output port and the television.

3. On your television, select the channel for auxiliary Audio/Video input.

1. After installing the drivers and applications, connect your camera to your

computer.

2. In the PC connection menu, scroll-select PC Camera.

3. On your Windows desktop, right-click My Computer.

4. Click Device Manager.

5. Right-click the GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE 47 entry and select the

Properties option. This screen appears:

6. Select the DMA checkbox.

7. Click the OK button.

Note:Before playing video clips(*.AVI files) ,make sure that you have

DirectX 8.0 or higher installed, along with a working audio card.

6. Installing Drivers

Before using your camera as a mass storage device, or as a webcam, you must
install the proper drivers.

1. Insert the Installation CD into your CD-ROM drive.

Your CD should start automatically. If it does not, follow the steps below:

I. Start Windows Explorer.

II. On the left pane, click the My Computer icon.

III. Right-click the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive icon, and then click

2. Choose a language for the installation.

3. In the Software installer screen, click Driver -> Install.

1. Insert the Installation CD into your CD-ROM drive.

Your CD should start automatically. If it does not, follow the steps below:

III. Right-click the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive icon, and then click

3. In the Software installer screen, click New Soft Video Works -> Install

9. Frequently Asked Questions

I was using the camera, but the camera controls suddenly don’t work.

• Try turning off your camera, then turning it back on.

• You might have removed the memory card while your camera was still

turned on. Remove the batteries, wait three seconds, and then put them
back.

• Check that the batteries are inserted properly.

• Check for camera damage. If it is damaged, send it for repair.

I have problems using my photo printer with the camera.

• Error messages or prompts can be caused by printer malfunctions, or

power supply problems. Check the connections to your camera, and
printer. Turn your camera on and reconnect it to the printer.

I can’t seem to format my memory card.

• You may have used a memory card that was formatted differently. Use

Windows Explorer to format the memory card using the FAT file format.
