GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING!

Read and understand all instructions. Failure
to follow all instructions listed below may
result in electric shock, re and/or serious
personal injury:

BASIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

■ Do not operate a chainsaw with one hand!
Use a rm grip with thumbs and ngers
encircling the chainsaw handles. Serious
injury to the operator, helpers, bystanders, or
any combination of these persons may result
from one-handed operation. A chainsaw is
intended for two-handed use.

■ Hold the power tool by insulated gripping
surfaces only, because the saw chain may
contact hidden wiring.

■ Always be aware of what you are doing
when using the chainsaw. Use common
sense. Do not operate the chainsaw when
you are tired, ill, or under the inuence of
alcohol, drugs, or medication.

■ Stay alert and pay attention to what you are
doing. Use common sense when using this
unit.

■ Keep all parts of your body away from the
saw chain when the unit is running.

■ Never let anyone use your chainsaw who
has not received adequate instructions in its
proper use. This applies to rentals as well as
privately owned saws.

■ Before you start the unit, make sure the
saw chain is not contacting any object.

■ Stop the chainsaw before setting it down.
Do not leave the unit running unattended.

■ To avoid accidental starting, never carry the
unit with your nger on the trigger switch.

■ Maintain the unit with care. Keep the cutting
edge sharp and clean for best performance
and to reduce the risk of injury. Follow
instructions for lubricating and changing
accessories.

■ Do not operate charger with a damaged

cord or plug, which could cause shorting
and electric shock. If damaged, immediately
discontinue use. Replace the charger with the
identical unit as listed in the Parts List of this
manual.

■ Keep handles dry, clean, and free of oil and
grease.

■ Do not operate a chainsaw that is
damaged, improperly adjusted, or not
completely and securely assembled. Chain
should stop turning when the trigger switch is
released. If chain turns after the trigger switch
has been released, discontinue chainsaw
use immediately. If within warranty period,
return unit to retailer of purchase for possible
product replacement.

■ Check for damaged parts. Any part or
guard that has been damaged should be
carefully checked to determine that it will
operate properly and perform its intended
function. Check for alignment of moving
parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of
parts, mounting, and any other conditions
that may affect its operation. If guard or other
part is damaged, discontinue chainsaw use
immediately. Replace part with identical part
as listed in the Parts List of this manual.

■ Do not use in the rain, snow or wet
conditions.

■ Always maintain a proper stance. Do not
overreach.

■ Do not adapt your power head to a bow
guide or use it to power any attachments or
devices not listed for the saw.

■ Do not cut vines and/or small underbrush.

SAFETY APPAREL

■ Wearing snug tting clothing. Always wear
heavy, long pants, long sleeves, overalls,
jeans or chaps made of cut resistant material
or ones that contain cut resistant inserts.
Wear non-slip safety footwear. Wear non­slip heavy duty gloves to improve your grip
and protect your hands. Do not wear jewelry,
short pants, sandals, or go barefoot. Do
not wear loose tting clothing, which could
be drawn into the motor or catch the chain
or underbrush. Secure hair so it is above
shoulder level.

■ Always wear eye protection with side
shields marked to comply with ANSI Z87.1,
along with head protection.

KICKBACK

See Figures 1-3, page i

WARNING!

Kickback may occur when the moving chain
contacts an object at the upper portion of
the tip of the guide bar or when the wood
closes in and pinches the saw chain in the
cut. Contact at the upper portion of the tip
of the guide bar can cause the chain for an
instant. The result is a lightning fast, reverse
reaction which kicks the guide bar up and
back toward the operator. If the saw chain is
pinched along the top of the guide bar, the
guide bar can be driven rapidly back toward
the operator, either of these reactions can
cause loss of saw control which can result in
serious injury. Do not rely exclusively upon
the safety devices built into the saw. As a
chainsaw user, you should take several steps
to keep your cutting jobs free from accident
or injury.

■ The following precautions should be
followed to minimize kickback:

Always grip the saw rmly with both

-

hands. Hold the saw rmly with both hands
when the motor is running. Place your right
hand on the rear handle and your left hand
on the front handle with your thumbs and

ngers encircling the chainsaw handles.
A rm grip together with a stiff left arm
will help you maintain control of the saw if
kickback occurs.

Make sure that the area in which you are

-

cutting is free from obstructions. Do not
let the nose of the guide bar contact a log,
branch, fence, or any other obstruction that
could be hit while you are operating the
saw.

Always cut with the unit running at full

-

speed. Fully squeeze the trigger switch and
maintain a steady cutting speed.

Use replacement parts such as low

-

kickback chain and special guide bars that
reduce the risks associated with rotational
kickback.

Use only the replacement guide bars

-

and low kickback chains specied by the
manufacturer for the saw.

■ With a basic understanding of kickback,
you can reduce or eliminate the element
of surprise. Sudden surprise contributes to
accidents.

■ Keep proper footing and balance at all
times.

■ Do not cut above shoulder height or
overreach when cutting.

■ Follow the sharpening and maintenance
instructions for the saw chain.

■ Push and Pull - This reaction force is
always opposite to the direction the chain
is moving where wood contact is made.
Consequently, the operator must be ready
to control the PULL of the log backward
when cutting on the bottom edge of the bar
(overbucking), and to control the PUSH of the
log forward when cutting on the top edge of
the bar (underbucking). See Fig. 3, page i

IN THE CUTTING/WORK AREA

■ Do not operate a chainsaw in a tree, on a
ladder, rooftop or scaffold; this is extremely
dangerous.

■ Keep ALL children, bystanders, visitors, and
animals out of the work area while starting or
cutting with the chainsaw.

NOTE: The size of the work area depends on
the job being performed as well as the size
tree or work piece involved. For example,
felling a tree requires a larger work area than
making bucking cuts.

■ Never start cutting until you have a clear
work area, secure footing, and a planned
retreat path from the falling tree. Cluttered
area invites injuries.

■ Do not expose the chainsaw to rain.

■ Do not use the chainsaw in damp or wet
locations.

■ Do not use the chainsaw near ammable
liquids, gases, or in any type of explosive
atmosphere,

■ Use extreme caution when cutting small
size brush and saplings, because slender
material may catch the saw chain and be
whipped toward you or pull you off balance.

■ When cutting a limb that is under tension,
be alert for spring back so that you will not be
struck when the tension in the wood bers is
released.

■ Do not force the chainsaw. The job can
be performed better and safer at the rate for
which it was intended.

■ Always use the right product for your
application. The chainsaw should be used for
cutting wood only. Never use the chainsaw
to cut plastic, masonry or non-wood building
materials.

■ Do not use the chainsaw for purposes not
intended.

■ Store idle chainsaw when not in use.
Chainsaw should be stored in a dry and high
or locked area out of the reach of children.
When storing chainsaw, remove battery and
place the chain cover on the bar and chain.

■ Remove the battery pack from the
chainsaw before cleaning, servicing, storing,
transporting, removing material from the unit,

changing accessories such as the bar and
chain, or when not in use.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR CHAINSAW
SAFETY DEVICES

LOW KICKBACK SAW CHAIN

The rakers (depth gauges) ahead of each
cutter can minimize the force of a kickback
reaction by preventing the cutters from the
digging in too deeply at the kickback zone.
Only use replacement chain that is equivalent
to original chain or has been certied as low
kickback chain per ANSI B175.1

Low kickback saw chain is chain that has
met the kickback performance requirements
of ANSI B175.1 - 1991 (American National
Standard for Power Tools - Gasoline ­Powered Chainsaws - Safety Requirements)
when tested on the representative sample of
chainsaws below 3.8. c.i.d. specied in ANSI
B175.1 - 1991.

As saw chains are sharpened during their
useful life, they lose some of the low kickback
qualities and extra caution should be used.

GUIDE BARS

Generally, guide bars with small radius tips
have somewhat lower kickback potentials.

When making a replacement, be sure to
order the Craftsman bar listed for the saw in
this operator’s manual.

SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

BATTERY SAFETY

■ Battery operated units do not have to be
plugged into an electrical outlet; therefore,
they are always in operating condition. Be
aware of possible hazards even when unit is
not operating.

■ Remove the battery pack from the
chainsaw before cleaning, servicing, storing,
transporting, removing material from the unit,
changing accessories such as the bar and
chain, or when not in use.

■ A battery pack must be recharged only with
the specied charger for the battery pack. A
charger that may be suitable for one type of
battery pack may create a risk of re when
used with another battery pack. Use battery
pack only with charger listed.

■ To reduce the risk of explosion and possible
injury. Do not place battery units or their
battery near re of heat.

■ Do not open or mutilate the battery pack.
Released electrolyte is corrosive and may
cause damage to the eyes or skin. It may be
toxic if swallowed.

■ Do not crush, drop or damage battery pack.
Do not use a battery pack or charger that
has been dropped or received a sharp blow.
A damaged battery is subject to explosion.
Properly dispose of a dropped or damaged
battery immediately.

■ Batteries can explode in the presence of
a source of ignition, such as a pilot light. To
reduce the risk of serious personal injury,
never use any cordless product in the
presence of open ame. An exploded battery
pack can propel debris and chemicals. If
exposed, ush with water immediately.

■ Do not charge unit in a damp or wet
location. Following this rule will reduce the
risk of electric shock.

■ For best results, your battery unit should be
charged in a location where the temperature
is more than 35.6

■ Under extreme usage or temperature
conditions, battery pack leakage may occur.
If liquid comes in contact with your skin,
wash immediately with soap and water,
then neutralize with lemon juice or vinegar.
If liquid gets into your eyes, ush them with

immediate medical attention.

■ Do not dispose of batteries in a re.
The cell may explode. Batteries should be
recycled, consult your local waste authority
for information regarding available cycling
and/or disposal options.

■ When battery pack is not in use, keep it
away from other metal objects like: paper
clips, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal
objects that can make a connection from one
terminal to another. Shorting the battery pack
terminals together may cause sparks, burns,
or a re.

REUSABLE SCABBARD

The scabbard keeps the operator from
coming in contact with the sharp chain when
the tool is not in use. It also helps keep the
saw chain from being nicked or damaged
when the tool is in storage.

CHAIN TENSIONING RING

This feature allows user to adjust the tension
of the chain.

QUICK-VIEW OIL INDICATOR

Semi-transparent oil reservoir that allows
user to see when to add oil.

assembled.

refer to REPLACING THE GUIDE BAR AND
CHAIN in the CARE AND MAINTENANCE
section of this manual.

BATTERY PACK AND CHARGER

BATTERY CHARGING

■ Use only with 60V Craftsman battery
chargers. The battery charger supplied is
specically designed for the Lithium-Ion
battery used in this tool.

■ Check the power voltage! Battery chargers
operate on 120 V.

■ Charge the battery between 35.6°F and

109.4°F. This ensures an optimum battery
service life.

■ Protect the battery from heat, from
continuous exposure to sun and keep away
from radiation or other heat sources. Do not
leave the battery in the tool in direct sunlight
over long periods.

■ The battery is supplied uncharged. Fully
charge the battery before using the tool for
the rst time. The Lithium-Ion battery can
be charged at any time without reducing
its service life. Interrupting the charging
procedure does not affect the battery.

CHARGER LEDS

■ If the battery is not inserted into the
charger, a continuous red LED light indicates
that the plug is plugged into an outlet socket
and the battery charger is ready for operation.

■ Charging: a ashing green LED on the
charger indicates that the battery is charging
normally.

■ Charged: continuous green LED on the
charger indicates that the battery is ready for
use.

■ Technical Issue: a ashing red LED light on
the charger indicates that battery pack has a
charging problem or might be defective.

- One possible condition is the battery
temperature is not within the charging
temperature range of 35.6°F - 109.4°F or
the charging current is too high. As soon as
the permitted temperature and the charging
current ranges are reached, the battery
charger will automatically switch to charging.

- If the temperature range and charging
current are correct and ashing red LED
light continues, then remove and reinstall
the battery pack. If the LED status repeats a
second time, try to charge another identical

To Install Battery Pack

■ Grasp the chainsaw rmly by the Trigger

■ Do not use force when inserting the battery

empty the oil tank after each use. When
storing the unit for a long period of time (three
months or longer) be sure the chain is lightly

and bar sprocket.

STARTING AND STOPPING THE

PROPER GRIP ON HANDLES

■ Hold the saw rmly with both hands. Always
keep your left hand on the front handle and
your right hand on the rear handle so that

■ Maintain a proper grip on the saw whenever
the motor is running. The ngers should
encircle the handle, with the thumb wrapped
under the handlebar. This grip is least likely
to be broken by a kickback or other sudden
reaction of the saw. Any grip in which the
thumb and ngers are on the same side of
the handle is dangerous, because a slight
kick of the saw can cause loss of control.

BASIC OPERATING/CUTTING
PROCEDURES

■ Practice cutting a few small logs using the
following technique to get the “feel” of using
the saw before you begin a major sawing
operation.

■ Take the proper stance in front of the wood
with the saw idling.

■ Press the safety switch and squeeze the
trigger switch, then release safety switch and
let the chain accelerate to full speed before
entering the cut.

■ Begin cutting with the saw against the log.

■ Keep the unit running the entire time you
are cutting, maintain a steady speed.

■ Allow the chain to cut for you; exert only
light downward pressure.

■ Forcing the cut could result in damage to
the bar, chain, or motor.

■ Release the trigger switch as soon as the
cut is completed, allowing the chain to stop.
If you run the saw without a cutting load,
unnecessary wear can occur to the chain,
bar, and unit.

■ Do not put pressure on the saw at the end
of the cut.

WORK AREA PRECAUTIONS

■ Cut only wood or materials made from
wood; no sheet metal, no plastics, no
masonry, no non-wooden building materials.

■ Never allow children to operate the saw.
Allow no person to use this chainsaw who
has not read this OPERATOR'S MANUAL or

■ Keep everyone - helpers, bystanders,
children, and animals - a SAFE DISTANCE
from the cutting area. During felling
operations, the safe distance should be at
least twice the height of the largest trees in
the felling area. During bucking operations,
keep a minimum distance of 15 ft. (4.6 m)
between workers.

■ Always cut with both feet on solid ground to
prevent being pulled off balance.

■ Do not cut above chest height, because a
saw held higher is difcult to control against
kickback forces.

■ Do not fell trees near electrical wires
or buildings. Leave this operation for
professionals.

■ Cut only when visibility and light are
adequate for you to see clearly.

HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS IN TREE
FELLING

When felling a tree, it is important that you
heed the following instructions and warnings
to prevent possible serious injury:

with the identical parts as specied in the
Parts List of this manual.

Do not cut down trees
having an extreme lean or large trees with
rotten limbs, loose bark or hollow trunks.
Have these trees pushed or dragged down
with heavy equipment, then cut them up.

DANGER!

or electrical wires. Contact with power lines
or live electrical wires will result in serious
personal injury or death.

the top of the tree during the back cut to

or hung up during the fall, leave the saw and
save yourself!

periods of high wind or heavy precipitation.
Wait until the hazardous weather has ended.

PROPER PROCEDURE FOR TREE
FELLING

See Figures 15a-15c, page vi

■ Felling a tree - When bucking and felling
operations are being performed by two or
more persons at the same time, the felling
operation should be separated from the
bucking operation by a distance of at least
twice the height of the tree being felled. Trees
should not be felled in a manner that would
endanger any person, strike any utility line, or

cause any property damage. If the tree does
make contact with any utility line, the utility
company should be notied immediately.

■ Operator should keep on the uphill side of
terrain as the tree is likely to roll or slide after
it is felled.

■ Plan and clear an escape path before
starting to cut. The escape path should
extend back and diagonally to the rear of
the expected line of fall. (See Fig. 15a)
Make sure there are no obstructions in your
planned path of retreat. Clear a path of safe
retreat from a point approximately 135° to the
planned line of fall on each side of the tree
(See Fig. 14b).

■ Before felling is started, consider the
natural lean of the tree, the location of larger
branches and the wind direction to judge
which way the tree will fall.

NOTCHING UNDERCUT

■ Make the notch 1/3 the diameter of the
tree, perpendicular to the direction of fall.
(Fig. 15b) Make the lower horizontal notching
cut (A) rst. This will help to avoid pinching
either the saw chain or the guide bar when
the upper angled second notching cut (B) is
being made.

FELLING BACK CUT

■ Make the felling back cut (C) at least
2 inches (50 mm) higher than the horizontal
notching cut. (Fig. 15b) Keep the felling back
cut parallel to the horizontal notching cut.
Make the felling back cut so enough wood
is left to act as a hinge (D). The hinge wood
keeps the tree from twisting and falling in the
wrong direction. Do not cut through the hinge.

WARNING! Never cut through to the notch
when making a back cut. The hinge controls
the fall of the tree. This is the section of wood
between the notch and back cut.

■ As the felling back cut gets close to the
hinge, the tree should begin to fall. If there
is any chance that the tree may not fall in

desired direction or that it may rock back
and bind the saw chain, stop cutting and
insert wedges in the cut (Fig. 15c) so as to
open it wider and drop the tree in the
desired line of fall.

■ When the tree begins to fall, remove the
chain bar from the cut, stop the chainsaw
motor, put the chainsaw down, and move
away from the tree along the planned retreat
path. Be alert for overhead limbs falling and
watch your footing.

■ Limbing is removing the branches from a
fallen tree. When limbing leave larger lower
limbs to support the log off the ground.
Remove the small limbs in one cut. (Fig. 15d)
Branches under tension should be cut from
the bottom up to avoid binding the chain bar.

REMOVING BUTTRESS ROOTS

See Figure 16, page vi

A buttress root is a large root extending from
the trunk of the tree above the ground. Saw
through the buttress root with a vertical cut.
Remove the resulting loose section from
the work area. Follow the correct tree felling
procedure as stated in Proper Procedure for
Tree Felling after you have removed the large
buttress roots.

BUCKING

See Figure 17, page vi

Bucking is the term used for cutting a fallen
tree to the desired log length.

■ Always make sure your footing is secure
and your weight is distributed evenly on both
feet.

■ Cut only one log at a time.

■ Support small logs on a saw horse or
another log while bucking.

■ Keep a clear cutting area. Make sure no
objects can contact the guide bar nose and
chain during cutting, because this can cause
kickback.

■ When bucking on a slope, always stand
on the uphill side of the log. To maintain
complete control of the chainsaw when
cutting through the log, release the cutting
pressure near the end of the cut without
relaxing your grip on the chainsaw handles.
Do not let the chain contact the ground. After
completing the cut, wait for the saw chain to
stop before you move the chainsaw. Always
stop the motor before moving from tree to
tree.

BUCKING WITH A WEDGE

See Figure 18, page vi

If the wood diameter is large enough for you
to insert a bucking wedge without touching
the chain, you should use the wedge to hold
the cut open to prevent pinching.

OVERBUCKING

See Figure 20, page vii

Begin on the top side of the log with the
bottom of the saw against the log; exert light
pressure downward. Note that the saw will
tend to pull away from you.

UNDERBUCKING

See Figure 21, page vii

Begin on the under side of the log with the
top of the saw against the log; exert light
pressure upward. During under bucking,
the saw will tend to push back at you. Be
prepared for this reaction, and hold the saw
rmly to maintain control.

BUCKING LOGS UNDER STRESS

See Figure 19, page vi

Make the rst bucking cut 1/3 of the way
through the log, and nish with a 2/3 cut on
the opposite side. As you cut the log, it will
tend to bend. The saw can become pinched
or hung in the log if you make the rst cut
deeper than 1/3 of the diameter of the log.
Give special attention to logs under stress to
prevent the bar and chain from pinching.

LIMBING

Limbing is removing branches from a fallen
tree.

■ Work slowly, keeping both hands on the
chainsaw with a rm grip. Always make sure
your footing is secure and your weight is
distributed evenly on both feet.

■ Leave the larger support limbs under the
tree to keep the tree off the ground while
cutting.

■ Limbs should be cut one at a time. Remove
the cut limbs from the work area often to help
keep the work area clean and safe.

■ Support limbs are under tension.
Underbuck (cut from bottom up) support
limbs to avoid binding the saw blade.

■ WARNING! While limbing, stand on the
other side of the tree from the limb you are
cutting (Fig. 23) to stay out of the way of the
falling cut limb.

PRUNING

Pruning is trimming limbs from a live tree.

■ Work slowly, keeping both hands on the
chainsaw with a rm grip. Always make sure
your footing is secure and your weight is
distributed evenly on both feet.

■ WARNING! Do not cut from a ladder. This
is extremely dangerous. Leave this operation
for professionals.

■ WARNING! Do not cut above chest height,
because a saw held higher is difcult to
control against kickback.

■ When pruning trees, it is important not to
make the nishing cut next to the main limb
or trunk until you have cut off the limb further
out to reduce the weight. This prevents
stripping the bark from the main member.

■ Underbuck the branch 1/3 through for your
rst cut.

■ Your second cut should overbuck to drop
the branch off.

■ Now make your nishing cut smoothly and
neatly against the main member so the bark
will grow back to seal the wound.

CUTTING SPRINGPOLES

See Figure 24, page vii

A springpole is any log, branch, rooted
stump, or sapling that is bent under tension
by other wood, so that it springs back if the
wood holding it is cut or removed. On a fallen
tree, a rooted stump has a high potential of
springing back to the upright position during
the bucking cut to separate the log from the
stump. Watch out for springpoles - they are
dangerous.

recessed cavity or on the contacts. Wipe with
a dry cloth. Do not use solvents, water, or
place in wet conditions.

■ Always unplug the charger when the battery
pack is not installed on the charger.

■ Keep the charger stored in normal room
temperature. Do not store it in excessive
heat. Do not use in direct sunlight.

■ Disconnect the charger from the AC power
outlet when not in use and once battery has
reached a full charge.

LUBRICATION

All of the motor bearings in this product are
lubricated with a sufcient amount of high­grade oil for the life of the unit under normal
operating conditions. Therefore, no further
lubrication is required.

CHAINSAW CARE

Switch the chainsaw off, remove the battery
pack and let it cool down. Check, clean and
store the chainsaw as described below. Keep
the chainsaw clean. Remove debris from it
after each use and before storage. Regular
and proper cleaning will help ensure safe use
and prolong the life of the chainsaw. Inspect
the chainsaw before each use for worn and
damaged parts. Do not operate chainsaw if
you nd broken and worn parts.

GENERAL CLEANING

Clean the product with a slightly damp cloth
and mild soap. Use a brush for areas that are
hard to reach.

In particular clean the air vents after every
use with a cloth and brush.

Remove stubborn dirt with high pressure air
(max. 3 bar).

Check for damaged or worn parts. Replace
damaged or worn parts before further chain
saw use. Only use identical replacement
parts as listed in the Parts List in this manual.

BAR NOSE

Clean the bar nose. Using a disposable lube
gun, insert the applicator into the lubrication
hole and inject grease until it appears at the
outside edge of the bar nose sprocket.
(Fig. 25)

Rotate the saw chain by hand. Repeat the
lubrication procedure until the entire bar nose
sprocket has been greased.

GUIDE BAR AND SAW CHAIN
MAINTENANCE

Most guide bar problems can be prevented
merely by keeping the chainsaw well
maintained. Incorrect ling and non-standard
cutter and depth gauge settings are the
causes of most guide bar problems, primarily
resulting in uneven bar wear. As the bar
wears unevenly, the rails widen, which may
cause the chain to clatter and make it difcult
to complete straight cuts. If the guide bar is
insufciently lubricated and the chainsaw is
operated with a chain which is too tight, the
bar will wear rapidly. To help minimize bar
wear, maintenance of the guide bar as well
as the saw chain is recommended.

Check the oiling port (see Fig. 4) for clogging
and clean if necessary to ensure proper
lubrication of the guide bar and saw chain
during operation. Use a soft wire small
enough to insert into the oil discharge hole.

REMOVING THE GUIDE BAR AND CHAIN

the rotational direction shown on the bar.

the bar; turn the disc counterclockwise if

■ The chain is correctly tensioned when there
is no sag on the underside of the guide bar,
and when the chain is snug it can be turned
by hand without binding. If the chain is too
tight, it will not rotate.

■ Upon initial operation, new chains can
lengthen considerably. This is normal during
the break-in period and the interval between
future adjustments will soon increase.

TENSION TEST

■ Set the chain saw on a at surface. Check
the chain tension by using one hand to lift the
chain above the edge of the bar. The tension
is correct when the chain lifts so that the tie
straps are approximately 3/32 - 5/32 inches
(2 - 4 mm) above the bar edge. (Figs.30)

■ Adjust the tension if the chain is too loose
or tight. Rotate the chain tensioning black ring
clockwise to tighten and counterclockwise to
loosen the chain tension.

NOTE: A cold chain is correctly tensioned
when there is no slack on the underside of
the guide bar, the chain is snug, and it can be
turned by hand without binding.

Retension a cold chain whenever the tie
straps on the drive links hang below the bar
bottom edge.

■ After tensioning chain, fully tighten the
chain cover red lock knob.

NOTE: During normal saw operation, the
temperature of the chain increases. The drive
links tie straps of a correctly tensioned warm
chain will hang approximately 1/16 in. (1.3
mm) below the bar bottom edge.

NOTE: New chains tend to stretch. Check
the chain tension frequently and tension as
required.

CAUTION!

Check the “cold tension” before next use.

CHECKING OIL LEVEL

■ Check the oil level at the window of the
oil tank (Quick View Oil Indicator) prior to
switching on and regularly during operation.
Rell oil when the oil level is lower than the
“MIN” marking. (Fig. 42)

■ Do not overll. Leave approximately 1/5
inch of space to the lower edge to allow the
oil to expand. (Fig. 41)

■ Wipe up spilled oil with a soft cloth and ret

■ Switch on the product (see section
“STARTING THE CHAINSAW” ); keep
pressing the trigger switch and check if the
chain oil is delivered as shown in the gure.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

■ Check the drive sprocket. If it is worn or
damaged due to strain, it must be replaced
before further chainsaw use.

■ Clear residue from the rails on the guide
bar using a screwdriver, putty knife, wire
brush or other similar tool. This will keep
the oil passages open to provide proper
lubrication to the bar and chain. (Fig. 44)

■ Check the guide bar ‘rail’ for wear: Hold a
ruler (straight edge) against the side of the
guide bar and ‘cutter side plates’. If there is
a gap between the ruler and guide bar the
guide bar ‘rail’ is normal. If there is no gap
(ruler ush against the side of the guide bar)
the guide bar ‘rail’ is worn and needs to be
replaced with a new one of the same type.
(Fig. 45)

■ Reverse the guide bar from time to time
to allow for even wear, which will extend the
life span of the bar. Loosen the screw and
remove the tension disc from the guide bar.

Ensure the rubber washer on the screw is
free of wear. Turn the guide bar and x the
tension disc with the screw. Apply a drop of
suitable glue to the screw to ensure its safe
positioning when reassembled. (Fig. 45a)

CHAIN MAINTENANCE

Know your saw chain (See Figure 46-47,
page xi)

Use only a low-kickback chain on this saw
(Fig. 47). This fast-cutting chain provides
kickback reduction when properly maintained.
For smooth and fast cutting, maintain the
chain properly. The chain requires sharpening
when the wood chips are small and powdery,
the chain must be forced through the wood
during cutting, or the chain cuts to one side.
During maintenance of the chain, consider
the following:

■ Improper ling angle of the side plate
(Fig.46) can increase the risk of severe
kickback.

■ Depth gauge setting. (Fig. 49).

■ Edges worn too low increases the potential
for kickback.

■ Cutting edges not low enough decreases
cutting ability.

■ If the chain cutters hit hard objects such as
nails and stones, or are abraded by mud or
sand on the wood, take the saw to a qualied
chainsaw service center to have the chain
sharpened. Use only identical parts as listed
in this manual.

NOTE: Inspect the drive sprocket for wear
or damage when replacing the chain. If
signs of wear or damage are present in the
areas indicated, take the saw to a qualied
chainsaw service center to have the sprocket
replaced. Use only identical parts as listed in
this manual.

Check the saw chain for possible wear
and damages. Replace it with a new one if
required. Experienced users can sharpen
a dull saw chain (see section “Saw chain
sharpening” below). Ret the saw chain and
the guide bar as described in Replacing the
Guide Bar and Chain section.

NOTE: If you do not fully understand the
correct procedure for sharpening the chain
after reading the instructions that follow,
have the saw chain sharpened by a qualied
chainsaw service center or replaced with a
recommended low-kickback chain.

SAW CHAIN SHARPENING

Have your chain sharpened professionally
at a qualied service center, or sharpen the
chain yourself by using a proper sharpening
kit. Also observe the sharpening instructions
supplied with the sharpening kit.

The height difference between the cutting tip
and the ridge is the depth gauge setting.
(Fig. 49).

When sharpening the saw chain you have to
consider the following points:

■ File angle

■ Cutting angle

■ File position

■ Diameter of round le

■ File

TO SHARPEN THE CHAIN, PROCEED AS
FOLLOWS:

■ Use protective gloves.

■ Ensure the chain is correctly tensioned on
the guide bar.

Use a round le, whose diameter is 1.1 times
the cutting tooth depth.

Make sure 20% of the le diameter is above
the cutter’s top plate.

A le guide is available from most reputable
tool merchants and is the easiest way to hold
the le at the correct position.

File at an angle perpendicular to the bar, and
at an angle of 25° to the direction of travel.
(Fig.48)

File each tooth from the inside towards
outside only.

File one side of the chain rst then turn the
saw around and repeat the process.

Sharpen each tooth equally by using the
same number of strokes.

Keep all cutter lengths equal (Fig. 49).
Check the depth gauge settings every 5
sharpenings. It is essential to keep the depth
gauge settings at .025 inch (Fig. 49).

Use a depth gauge measuring instrument to
check the height of the depth gauge setting.

Depth gauge measuring jigs are available
from most tool merchants.

If the saw is not functioning properly, take it
to a qualied chainsaw service center to have
saw inspected for possible repair. Use only
identical parts as listed in this manual.

STORAGE

Store the product and its accessories in a dry,
frost-free place.

Always store the product in a place that is
inaccessible to children. The ideal storage
temperature is between 50

RETROCESO

¡ADVERTENCIA!

Puede ocurrir un retroceso cuando la cadena
en movimiento haga contacto un objeto en
la porción superior de la punta de la barra
guía, o bien cuando el tronco se cierre y
atrape la cadena durante el proceso de
corte. Un contacto en la porción superior de
la punta de la barra guía puede provocar
que la cadena se vuela inestable por un
instante. El resultado es una reacción de
reversa extremadamente rápida que envía a
la barra guía hacia arriba y de vuelta hacia
el operador. Si la cadena queda atrapada en
la parte superior de la barra guía, esta última
puede volver rápidamente hacia el operador;
cualquiera de estas reacciones puede
provocar pérdida de control sobre la sierra y
lesiones graves. No confíe exclusivamente
en los dispositivos de seguridad incluidos en
la sierra. Como usuario de una motosierra,
usted debe seguir varios pasos para
mantener sus trabajos de corte libres de
accidentes o lesiones.

■ Para minimizar el retroceso, se deben

seguir las siguientes precauciones:

- Agarre siempre la motosierra con rmeza,
utilizando ambas manos. Sostenga la sierra
rmemente con ambas manos mientras el
motor esté andando. Ponga su mano derecha
en la manilla trasera y su mano izquierda
en la manilla delantera, con sus dedos y
pulgares encerrando las manillas en un
círculo. Un agarre rme, junto con un brazo
izquierdo rígido, le ayudarán a mantener el
control sobre la sierra en caso de ocurrir un
retroceso.

- Asegúrese de que la zona donde esté
cortando se encuentre libre de obstrucciones.
No deje que la nariz de la barra guía entre
en contacto con un tronco, rama, reja u otra
obstrucción que pueda golpear al operar la
sierra.

- Corte siempre con la unidad a máxima
velocidad. Apriete el gatillo al máximo y
mantenga una velocidad de corte constante.

- Utilice piezas de repuesto tales como una
cadena con bajo retroceso y barras guía
especiales que reduzcan el riesgo asociado
con el retroceso por giro.

- Utilice solo las barras guía de repuesto y
cadenas con bajo retroceso especicadas
por el fabricante de la sierra.

■ Con un conocimiento básico del retroceso,
puede reducir o incluso eliminar el elemento
sorpresa. Una sorpresa súbita contribuye a la
ocurrencia de accidentes.

■ Mantenga los pies en tierra rme y el
equilibrio en todo momento.

■ No corte por sobre la altura de su hombro
ni se extralimite al cortar.

■ Siga las instrucciones de alado y
mantenimiento para la cadena de la sierra.

■ Empujar y tirar: esta fuerza de reacción
es siempre opuesta a la dirección en que
se mueve la cadena al hacer contacto con
madera. Como consecuencia, el usuario
debe estar listo para controlar el TIRÓN del
tronco hacia atrás al cortar desde el borde
inferior de la barra (corte descendiente) y

adelante al cortar en el borde superior de la

EN LA ZONA DE CORTE/TRABAJO

■ No utilice la motosierra en un árbol, en
una escalera, azotea o andamio; esto es
extremadamente peligroso.

■ Mantenga a TODOS los niños, personas
cercanas, visitantes y animales fuera de
la zona de trabajo mientras corte con la
motosierra.

NOTA: El tamaño de la zona de trabajo
depende del trabajo a realizar, así como
también del tamaño del árbol o madera
involucrada. Por ejemplo, derribar un árbol
requiere de una zona de trabajo mayor que
el realizar cortes para trozar un tronco.

■ Jamás comience a cortar si no tiene una
zona de trabajo despejada, calzado de
seguridad y una ruta de retirada planicada
para el árbol en caída. Las zonas atiborradas
son una invitación para las lesiones.

■ No exponga la motosierra a la lluvia.

■ No utilice la motosierra en condiciones
húmedas o en un lugar mojado.

■ No utilice la motosierra cerca de líquidos o
gases inamables, ni cerca de algún tipo de
atmósfera explosiva.

■ Tenga extremo cuidado al cortar malezas
pequeñas y brotes, ya que el material
pequeño podría quedar atrapado en la
cadena de la sierra y salir disparado hacia
usted o hacerle perder el equilibrio.

■ Al cortar una rama bajo tensión, esté
atento al efecto de latigazo a n de evitar
ser golpeado al momento en que la tensión
sobre las bras de manera se libere.

■ No fuerce la motosierra. El trabajo se hará
de manera mejor y más segura si se realiza
al ritmo para el cual se diseñó la herramienta.

■ Utilice siempre el producto correcto para
su necesidad. La motosierra debe utilizarse
solo para cortar madera. Jamás utilice la
motosierra para cortar plástico, mampostería
o materiales de construcción que no sean

madera.

■ No utilice la motosierra para propósitos
para los cuales no se construyó.

■ Almacene la motosierra cuando no la esté
utilizando. La motosierra se debe almacenar
en una zona alta y cerrada, fuera del alcance
de los niños. Al almacenar la motosierra,
extraiga la batería e instale la cubierta de la
cadena sobre la barra y cadena.

■ Extraiga la batería de la motosierra
antes de limpiarla, repararla, almacenarla,
transportarla, extraer material desde la
unidad, cambiar accesorios tales como la
barra y cadena y cuando no esté en uso.

COMPRENDIENDO LOS DISPOSITIVOS
DE SEGURIDAD DE SU MOTOSIERRA

CADENA PARA SIERRA DE BAJO
RETROCESO

Los dientes (indicadores de profundidad)
sobre cada cortador pueden minimizar la
fuerza de una reacción de retroceso al evitar
que los cortadores penetren demasiado en
la zona de retroceso. Utilice solo una cadena
de repuesto equivalente a la original o que
haya sido certicada como cadena de bajo
retroceso según la norma ANSI B175.1

Una cadena de bajo retroceso es aquella
que cumple con los requisitos de desempeño
ante retrocesos de la norma ANSI B175.1

- 1991 (Norma Nacional Americana para
Herramientas Eléctricas, a Gasolina,
Motosierras y requisitos de seguridad) al
probarse en la muestra representativa de
motosierras bajo 3.8 c.i.d. Especicadas en
ANSI B175.1 - 1991.

Ya que las cadenas para sierras se alan
durante su vida útil, éstas pierden parte de
sus cualidades anti retroceso; por lo tanto, se
debe tener precaución adicional.

BARRAS GUÍA

Generalmente, las barras guía con puntas
de radio pequeño tienen potenciales de
retroceso menores.

Al realizar un cambio, asegúrese de ordenar
la barra Craftsman indicada para la sierra en
este manual del usuario.

INSTRUCCIONES ESPECÍFICAS DE SEGURIDAD

SEGURIDAD DE LA BATERÍA

■ Las unidades con batería pueden operar
sin estar enchufadas a una toma de corriente,
por lo que siempre están en condiciones
operativas. Esté atento a posibles peligros,
incluso cuando la unidad no esté en
funcionamiento.

■ Extraiga la batería de la motosierra
antes de limpiarla, repararla, almacenarla,

batería. Un cargador apto para una batería

■ Esto reducirá el riesgo de explosión y
posibles lesiones. No coloque baterías o la
batería cerca del fuego o fuentes de calor.

■ No abra ni desarme la batería. Los
electrolitos liberados son corrosivos y pueden
dañar los ojos o la piel. Puede ser tóxico si
se ingiere.

■ No triture, deje caer o dañe la batería.
No utilice una batería o cargador que se
haya caído o recibido un golpe duro. Una
batería dañada puede explotar. De manera
adecuada, elimine inmediatamente una
batería dañada o que se haya caído.

■ Las baterías pueden explotar en presencia
de una fuente de ignición como, por ejemplo,
una luz piloto. Para reducir el riesgo de
lesiones severas, jamás utilice un producto
inalámbrico en presencia de llamas abiertas.

los terminales puede provocar chispas,

Una batería explotada puede expulsar
materiales químicos y sedimentos. Si se
expone, lávese con agua inmediatamente.

■ No cargue la unidad en condiciones
húmedas o en un lugar mojado. Siga esta
regla y reducirá el riesgo de descargas

CARGA DE LA BATERÍA

■ Use únicamente cargadores de batería
Craftsman de 60 V. El cargador de la batería
incluido está diseñado especícamente para
la batería de litio usada en esta herramienta.

■ ¡Revise el voltaje! Los cargadores de
baterías operan en 120 V.

■ Cargue la batería a entre 35,6 °F y 109,4
°F (2 y 43 °C). Esto garantiza una vida útil
óptima de la batería.

■ Proteja la batería del calor y de la
exposición continua al sol, y manténgala
alejada de radiaciones u otras fuentes de
calor. No deje la batería en la herramienta
bajo luz solar directa durante largos periodos
de tiempo.

■ La batería incluida no viene cargada.
Cargue la batería por completo antes de usar
la herramienta por primera vez. La batería de

■ Problema técnico: una luz LED roja
parpadeante en el cargador indica que la
batería tiene un problema de carga o que
podría estar defectuosa.

- Un posible problema es que la temperatura
de la batería no esté dentro del rango de
temperatura de 35,6 °F - 109,4 °F (2 y 43 °C),
o que la corriente de carga sea demasiado
alta. Apenas se alcance la temperatura
permitida y se logren los rangos de corriente
de carga, el cargador comenzará a cargar la
batería automáticamente.

- Si el rango de temperatura y la corriente
de carga son correctas y la luz LED
continúa parpadeando de color rojo,
extraiga y reinserte la batería. Si el estado
del LED se repite una segunda vez, intente
cargar otra batería idéntica. Si la batería
carga normalmente, deseche la batería
defectuosa (consulte la sección Eliminación
ambientalmente segura de la batería).

- Si la luz roja parpadeante continúa tras
instalar una segunda batería, el cargador
podría estar defectuoso. Cámbielo por otro
nuevo.

■ Después de ciclos de carga continuos o
repetidos sin interrupción, el cargador puede
que se caliente. Esto es normal y no indica
defecto técnico alguno de la batería.

■ El operador debe permanecer en la zona
colina arriba del terreno, ya que es probable

que el árbol ruede o se deslice al ser talado.

■ Planique y despeje una ruta de escape
antes de comenzar a cortar. La ruta de
escape se debe extender hacia atrás y
diagonalmente a la parte posterior de la línea
de caída esperada. (Consulte la Fig. 15a)
Asegúrese de que no haya obstrucciones
en su ruta de escape planicada. Despeje
una ruta de escape segura desde un punto a
aproximadamente 135° en relación a la línea
de caída planicada en cada costado del
árbol (Consulte la Fig. 14b).

■ Antes de comenzar a talar, considere la
inclinación natural del árbol, la ubicación de
las ramas más grandes y la dirección del
viento para juzgar hacia dónde caerá el árbol.

CORTE INFERIOR DE MUESCA

■ Haga la muesca de 1/3 del diámetro del
árbol, perpendicular a la dirección de caída.
(Fig. 15b) Haga primero el corte de muesca
horizontal (A) inferior. Esto ayudará a evitar
pinzamientos ya sea en la cadena de la
sierra o en la barra guía al hacer el segundo
corte de muesca angulado superior (B).

CORTE POSTERIOR DE TALA

■ Haga un corte posterior de tala (C) de al
menos 2 pulgadas (50 mm) sobre el corte
de muesca horizontal. (Fig. 15b) Mantenga
el corte posterior de tala paralelo al corte de
muesca horizontal. Haga el corte posterior
de tala de manera tal que quede suciente
madera restante como para actuar en forma
de bisagra (D). La madera de bisagra evita
que el árbol se gire y caída en la dirección
incorrecta. No corte a través de la bisagra.

■ A medida que el corte posterior de tala
se acerque a la bisagra, el árbol debiera
comenzar a caer. Si existe alguna posibilidad
de que al árbol no caiga en la dirección
deseada, o de que pueda devolverse hacia
usted y detener la cadena de la sierra, deje
de cortar e inserte cuñas en el corte (Fig.
15c) para ensanchar el corte y hacer que el
árbol caiga en la línea de caída deseada.

■ Cuando el árbol comience a caer, saque
la barra de la cadena del corte, detenga el
motor de la motosierra, deje la motosierra en
el suelo y aléjese del árbol siguiendo la ruta
de escapa planicada. Esté alerta a la caída
de ramas por sobre el nivel de su cabeza y
mire por donde pisa.

■ El desramado consiste en remover las
ramas de un árbol caído. Al desramar, deje
las ramas inferiores más grandes para que
éstas soporten el tronco sobre el suelo. Quite
las ramas pequeñas en un corte. (Fig. 15d)
Las ramas bajo tensión deben cortarse desde
abajo hacia arriba para así evitar que la barra
de la cadena quede atrapada.

EXTRACCIÓN DE RAÍCES
SUPERFICIALES

Una raíz supercial es una raíz de gran

tamaño que se extiende desde el tronco del
árbol por sobre el nivel del suelo. Corte la
raíz supercial utilizando un corte vertical.
Extraiga la sección suelta resultante desde
la zona de trabajo. Siga el procedimiento
de tala de árboles correcto, indicado en
Procedimiento correcto para la tala de
árboles después de haber extraído las raíces
superciales.

deseado.

manera equitativa en ambos pies.

■ Al trozar, ponga los troncos pequeños
sobre una banca de corte u otro tronco.

grande como para permitirle insertar una
cuña de trozado sin tocar la cadena, utilícela
para mantener el corte abierto y así evitar

doblado bajo tensión por otro árbol, de

MANTENIMIENTO DEL CARGADOR

LUBRICACIÓN

Todos los cojinetes del motor de este
producto están lubricados con una cantidad
suciente de aceite de alto rendimiento que
debiera ser suciente para toda la vida útil de
este producto, bajo condiciones operativas
normales. Por lo tanto, no se requiere una
mayor lubricación.

CUIDADO DE LA MOTOSIERRA

LIMPIEZA GENERAL

Limpie el producto con un paño levemente
humedecido y detergente suave. Utilice un
cepillo para las zonas que sean difíciles de
alcanzar.

En particular, limpie las rejillas de ventilación
de aire tras cada uso utilizando un paño y un
cepillo.

Extraiga la suciedad persistente utilizando
aire a alta presión (máx. 3 bares).

Compruebe que no haya piezas dañadas
o gastadas. Cambie las piezas dañadas o
gastadas antes de volver a utilizar la sierra.
Utilice solo las piezas de repuesto originales
indicadas en la Lista de piezas de este
manual.

NARIZ DE LA BARRA

Limpie la nariz de la barra. Utilizando una
pistola de lubricante desechable, inserte
el aplicador en la boquilla de lubricación e
inyecte grasa hasta que salga por el borde
externo de rueda de cadena de la nariz de la
barra. (Fig. 25)

Gire la cadena de la sierra a mano. Repita el
procedimiento de lubricación hasta que toda
la rueda de cadena de la nariz de la barra se
haya engrasado.

Compruebe la boquilla de lubricación
(consulte la Fig. 4) en búsqueda de
aglomeraciones y límpiela en caso de
ser necesario para garantizar la correcta
lubricación de la barra guía y cadena.
Utilice un alambre suave lo sucientemente
pequeño como para insertarlo en el oricio
de descarga de aceite.

■ Ponga la cadena en la ranura de la barra,
con los bordes cortantes de la cadena
apuntando hacia la dirección de giro que
indica la barra. (Fig. 27)

■ Asegúrese de que el disco de tensión de
la barra esté ajustado en la posición más
alejada de la barra; gire el disco hacia la
derecha en caso de ser necesario. (Figs. 31-

32)

■ Ponga la cadena sobre la rueda de cadena
motriz y ponga la barra guía contra el cuerpo
de la sierra de manera tal que el perno de
soporte se asome a través del oricio en el
disco de tensión de la barra guía. (Figs. 33-

34)

■ Reinstale la cubierta de la cadena y apriete
levemente la perilla de bloqueo roja girándola
hacia la derecha. (Fig. 35). No apriete la
perilla de bloqueo completamente; primero
se debe tensar la cadena.

■ La cadena está correctamente tensada
cuando no hay hundimientos en la cara
inferior de la barra guía; cuando la cadena
está ceñida es posible girarla a mano sin que
se trabe. Si la cadena está demasiado tensa,
no girará.

■ Con el primer uso, las cadenas nuevas
pueden estirarse considerablemente. Esto es
normal durante el periodo inicial y el intervalo
de tiempo entre futuros ajustes aumentará
pronto.

2.Gire el aro negro tensor de la cadena hacia

PRUEBA DE TENSIÓN

■ Coloque la motosierra sobre una supercie
plana. Compruebe la tensión de la cadena
utilizando una mano para levantar la cadena
sobre el borde de la barra. La tensión es la
correcta cuando puede levantar la cadena
de manera tal que los eslabones estén a
aproximadamente 3/32 - 5/32 de pulgada (2-4
mm) sobre el borde de la barra. (Figs.30)

■ Ajuste la tensión si la cadena está
demasiado suelta o demasiado tensa. Gire
el aro negro tensor de la cadena hacia la
derecha para apretar y hacia la izquierda
para soltar la tensión de la cadena.

NOTA: Una cadena fría está correctamente
tensada cuando no hay acidez en la cara
inferior de la barra guía; cuando la cadena
está ceñida es posible girarla a mano sin que
se trabe.

Tense nuevamente la cadena cada vez que
las uniones cuelguen por debajo del borde
inferior de la barra.

■ Tras tensar la cadena, apriete
completamente la perilla de bloqueo roja de
la cubierta de la cadena.

NOTA: Durante una operación normal, la
temperatura de la cadena se incrementa.
Las uniones de una cadena caliente
y correctamente tensada cuelgan a
aproximadamente 1/16 de pulgada (1,3 mm)
por debajo del borde inferior de la barra.

NOTA: Las cadenas nuevas tienden a
estirarse. Se debe comprobar la tensión de la
cadena con frecuencia.

apretada al enfriarse. Compruebe la “tensión
en frío” antes del siguiente uso.

COMPROBACIÓN DEL NIVEL DE ACEITE

■ Compruebe el nivel de aceite en la

ventanilla del tanque de aceite (indicador de
aceite de revisión rápida) antes de encender
la motosierra y regularmente durante el
funcionamiento. Rellene con aceite si el
nivel del mismo está por debajo de la marca
"MIN”. (Fig. 42)

■ No coloque más de la cuenta. Deje

aproximadamente 1/5 in. de espacio hacia el
borde inferior para permitir que el aceite se
expanda. (Fig. 41)

■ Limpie el aceite derramado utilizando un

paño suave y reinstale el tapón del tanque.

■ Asegúrese de que la barra guía y la cadena

estén en posición al comprobar el suministro
de aceite.

■ Encienda el producto (consulte la sección

“ENCENDIDO DE LA MOTOSIERRA”);
mantenga presionado el gatillo y compruebe
si el aceite de la cadena se suministra como
se indica en la gura. (Fig. 43)

CUIDADO Y MANTENIMIENTO

■ Compruebe la rueda de la cadena motriz.

Si está gastada o dañada por el uso, se
debe cambiar antes de seguir usando la
motosierra.

■ Limpie los residuos de los rieles de la

barra guía utilizando un destornillador,
una espátula, cepillo de alambre u otra
herramienta similar. Esto mantendrá los
pasajes de aceite abiertos para proporcionar
una lubricación adecuada hacia la barra y
cadena. (Fig. 44)

■ Comprueba el desgaste del “riel” de la

barra guía: Sostenga una regla (borde liso)
contra el costado de la barra guía y “placas
laterales de corte”. Si existe una brecha entre
la regla y la barra guía, el “riel” de la barra
guía es normal. Si no existe una brecha (la
regla se ve pareja contra el costado de la
barra guía), el “riel” de la barra guía está
gastado y debe cambiarse por uno nuevo del
mismo tipo. (Fig. 45)

■ Invierta la barra guía de vez en cuando
para que se gaste por parejo y así extender
su vida útil. Suelte el tornillo y extraiga del
disco de tensión desde la barra guía.

Asegúrese de que la arandela de goma del
tornillo no esté gastada. Gire la barra guía y
je el disco de tensión con el tornillo. Aplique
una gota de pegamento adecuado al tornillo
para garantizar que su posición esté segura
durante el re ensamblaje. (Fig. 45a)

MANTENIMIENTO DE LA CADENA

Conozca su cadena (Consulte la Figura 46­47, página xi)

Utilice solo una cadena de bajo retroceso
en esta sierra (Fig. 47). Esta cadena de
rápido corte reduce el retroceso cuando se
le mantiene correctamente. Para obtener un
corte rápido y liso, realice los mantenimientos
correctamente sobre la cadena. La cadena
se debe alar cuando los trozos de madera
sean pequeños y polvorientos, cuando se
deba forzar contra la madera durante el
corte, o bien cuando la cadena corte solo
hacia un lado. Durante el mantenimiento de
la cadena, considere lo siguiente:

■ Un ángulo de limado inadecuado en la
placa lateral (Fig. 46) puede aumentar el
riesgo de que ocurran retrocesos graves.

■ Ajuste del medidor de profundidad. (Fig.

49).

■ Bordes con desgaste demasiado bajo
incrementan el riesgo de retrocesos.

■ Los bordes de corte sin suciente
profundidad reducen la capacidad de corte.

■ Si los cortadores de la cadena tocan
objetos duros tales como clavos y piedras, o
si reciben la acción abrasiva de lodo o arena
en la madera, lleve la sierra a un centro de
servicio para motosierras calicado a n
de que alen la cadena. Utilice solo piezas
idénticas a las indicadas en este manual.

Inspeccione la rueda de la cadena

NOTA:

o daño en las zonas indicadas, lleve la
sierra a un centro de servicio de motosierras
calicado para que cambien la rueda de la
cadena. Utilice solo piezas idénticas a las
indicadas en este manual.
Compruebe que no haya desgaste o daños
en la cadena de la sierra. Cámbiela por otra
nueva en caso de ser necesario. Los usuarios
experimentados son capaces de alar una
cadena lisa (consulte la sección “Alado de la
cadena” más adelante). Reinstale la cadena
y la barra guía como se indica en la sección
Reinstalación de la barra guía y cadena.

Si no comprende completamente

NOTA:

el procedimiento correcto de alado de la
cadena tras leer estas instrucciones, lleve
la cadena a un centro de servicio para
motosierras calicado o cámbiela por una
cadena recomendada de bajo retroceso.

AFILADO DE LA CADENA

Lleve su cadena a un servicio de alado
profesional en un centro de servicio
calicado, o bien ale la cadena usted
mismo utilizando un kit de alado apropiado.
Además, considere las instrucciones de
alado proporcionadas con el kit de alado.

La diferencia de altura entre la punta de
corte y la cima es el ajuste del medidor de
profundidad. (Fig. 49).

Al alar la cadena debe considerar los
siguientes puntos:

■ Ángulo de la lima

■ Ángulo de corte

■ Posición de la lima

■ Diámetro de la lima redonda

■ Lima

PARA AFILAR LA CADENA, PROSIGA DE
LA SIGUIENTE MANERA:

■ Utilice guantes de protección.

■ Asegúrese de que la cadena esté

correctamente tensada en la barra guía.

Utilice una lima redonda, con un diámetro de
1,1 veces la profundidad de los dientes de
corte.

Asegúrese de que el 20 % del diámetro de la
lima esté sobre la placa superior del cortador.

La mayoría de las tiendas de herramientas
reconocidas ofrecen guías para limas, las
cuales ofrecen la manera más sencilla de
sostener una lima en la posición correcta.

Lime perpendicular a la barra, en un ángulo
de 25° hacia la dirección del recorrido. (Fig.

Lime cada diente desde el interior hacia el

exterior.Lime cada costado de la cadena
primero y luego voltee la sierra para repetir
el proceso.Ale cada diente de manera igual,
utilizando el mismo número de movimientos.

Mantenga los largos de todos los cortadores
iguales (Fig. 49). Compruebe los ajustes del
medidor de profundidad cada 5 ciclos de
alado. Es esencial mantener los ajuste del
medidor de profundidad a 0,025 pulgadas
(0,06 cm) (Fig. 49).

Utilice un instrumento para medir el medidor
de profundidad y así comprobar el alto del
ajuste de éste último.

La mayoría de las tiendas de herramientas
ofrecen de medición para el medidor de
profundidad.

Si la sierra no funciona correctamente, llévela
a un centro de servicio calicado para que
la inspeccionen y reparen, en caso de ser
necesario. Utilice solo piezas idénticas a las
indicadas en este manual.

ALMACENAMIENTO
Guarde el producto y sus accesorios en un

sitio seco donde no esté expuesto a heladas.
Guarde siempre el producto en un lugar

al que no puedan acceder los niños. La
temperatura de almacenamiento ideal está
entre 10 °C y 27 °C (50 °F y 80 °F).

Recomendamos utilizar el paquete original
para guardar el producto o cubrirlo con un

trapo adecuado o algo que lo proteja del
polvo.

TRANSPORTE

Apague el producto y saque la batería antes
de transportarlo.

Fije la cubierta de la hoja a la hoja de la
sierra.

Póngale otras protecciones, si procede.
Lleve siempre el producto por los mangos de

agarre.
Proteja el producto de golpes fuertes o

vibraciones intensas que puedan ocurrir
durante el transporte en vehículos.

Asegure el producto para evitar que se
resbale o se caiga.
