Capacity
You must make sureyour generator cansupply enough rated
(running) and surge (starting) watts for the items you will power at the sametime. Foliowthese simple steps:
1. Selectthe items you wiii power at the same time.
2. Total the rated (running) watts of these items. This is the amount of power your generator must produce to
keepyour items running.
3. Estimate how many surge (starting) watts you wiii need. Surge wattage isthe short burst of power neededto
start electric motor-driven toois or appliancessuch as a circular saw or refrigerator. Becausenot aii motors start
atthe sametime, totai surge watts can be estimated by adding onlythe item(s) with the higilest additional
surge watts to the total ratedwatts from step 2.

Pewer Management To prolong the iife of your generator and attacheddevices, it
is important to take carewhen adding electrical loads to your generator. There shouid be nothing connectedto the generator outlets before starting it's engine.Thecorrect and safe way to managegenerator power is to sequentiallyadd
loads asfollows:
1. With nothing connectedto the generator, start the engine as describedin this manual.
2. Hug in and turn on the first ioad, preferably the largest load you have.
3. Permit the generatoroutput to stabiiize (engineruns smoothly and attached deviceoperates properly).

ENGINETECHNICALiNFORMATiON
This is a single cylinder, overheadvalve(OH\/), air cooled engine, it is a iow emissions engine.
Inthe Stateof Caiifornia, Model200000 enginesare certified by the California Air Resources Boardto meet emissions standardsfor 250 hours. Such certification does not grant the purchaser, owner or operator of this engine any additiona] warranties with respectto the performance or operational iife of this engine.Theengine is warranted solety according to the product and emissions warranties stated
elsewherein this manual.
Power Ratings
Thegross power rating for individuai gas engine models is labeledin accordancewith SAE(Society of Automotive
Engineers)code J1940 (Small Engine Power & Torque
Rating Procedure),and rating performance has been obtained andcorrected in accordancewith SAEJ1995
(Revision2002=05).Torque values are derived at 3060 RPM; horsepower values are derivedat 3600 RPM. Actuai gross engine power wiii be lower andis affected by, among other things, ambient operating conditions and engine-to-engine
variability. Givenboth the wide array of products on which enginesare piaced and the variety of environmentai issues
appiicabteto operatingthe equipment, the gas engine wiii not developthe rated gross power when used in a given pieceof power equipment (actual "on-site"or net power). This
difference is due to a variety of factors including, but not limited to, accessories (air cleaner, exhaust, charging,
cooling, carburetor, fuel pump, etc.), appiication iimitations, ambient operating conditions (temperature, humidity, altitude), and engine-to-engine variabiiity. Due to
manufacturing and capacity iimitations, Briggs & Stratton
maysubstitute anengine of higher rated power for this Seriesengine.

To servicethe aircteaner,foiiow these steps:
1. Loosenscrews (A) and remove air cleanercover (B).
Changethe oil while the engine is still warm from running, as foflows:
1. Make sure unit is on a levelsurface.
2. Disconnect the spark piug wire from the spark piug and placethe wire whereit cannot contact spark plug.

calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME (469-4663).
If you useyour generatoron any forest-covered, brush- covered,or grass-coveredunimproved iand, it must havea spark arrestor. The spark arrestor must be maintainedin good condition bythe owner/operator.
2. Removefour screwsthat attachspark arrestorscreen(C).
3. Inspect screen and obtain a repiacementif torn, perforated or otherwise damaged. DO NOTusea defectivescreen, if screen is not damaged, cleanit with
