GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
,_ WARNING: Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to follow the
warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains=operated (corded)
power tool or battery=operated (cordless) power tool.
WORK AREA SAFETY
• Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
• Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the
presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks
which may ignite the dust or fumes.
= Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose control.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
• Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any
way. Do not use any adaptor plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.
Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock
• Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes,
radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric
shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
• Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a
power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
• Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or
unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or
moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
= When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable
for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of
electric shock.
If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a
ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCl} protected power supply. Use of a
GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock.
PERSONAL SAFETY
* Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when
operating a power tool. Do not use tool while tired or under the
influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while
operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
* Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective
equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing
protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
* Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position
before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or
carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or
energizing in power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
* Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool
on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may
result in personal injury.
* Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This
enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
* Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair,
clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or
long hair can be caught in moving parts.
* If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and
collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use
of these devices can reduce dust-related hazards.
POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
* Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your
application. The correct power tool will do the job better and more safely at
the rate for which it was designed.
* Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any
power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must
be repaired.
* Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack
from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing
accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures
reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
* Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow
persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate
the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
* Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving
parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the
power tool's operation, if damaged, have the power tool repaired
before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

Usethepower tool, accessories, tool bits, etc. in accordance with
these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the
work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from
those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
BATTERY TOOL USE AND CARE
• Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A
charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire
when used with another battery pack.
• Use power tools only with specificaNy designated battery packs. Use of
any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
= When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects,
like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects
that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the
battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
= Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery;
avoid contact, if contact accidentally occurs, flush with water, if liquid
contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the
battery may cause irritation or burns.
SERVICE
Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only
identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power
tool is maintained.
Follow instructions in the Maintenance section of this manual. Use of
unauthorized parts or failure to follow Maintenance instructions may create
a risk of shock or injury.
SPECiFiC SAFETY RULES FOR CIRCULAR SAW
Safety instructions for all saws
,_ DANGER: Keep hands away from cutting area and the blade. Keep your
second hand on auxiliary handle, or motor housing, if both hands are holding the
saw, they cannot be cut by the blade.
• Do not reach underneath the workpiece. The guard cannot protect you
from the blade below the workpiece.
Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. Less than a
full tooth of the blade teeth should be visible below the workpiece.
• Neverhold piece being cut in your hands or across your leg. Secure the
workpiece to a stable platform, it is important to support the work properly
to minimize body exposure, blade binding, or loss of control.
= Hold the power tool by the insulated gripping surfaces only, when
performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden
wiring or its own cord. Contact with a "live" wire will also make exposed
metal parts of the power tool "live".
= When ripping, always use a rip fence or straight edge guide. This
improves the accuracy of cut and reduces the chance of blade binding.
= Always use blades with correct size and shape (diamond versus round)
of arbor holes. Blades that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw
will run eccentrically, causing loss of control.
= Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolt. The blade
washers and bolt were specially designed for your saw, for optimum
performance and safety of operation.
Kickback causes and related warnings
• Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched, bound or misaligned saw blade,
causing an uncontrolled saw to lift up and out of the workpiece toward
the operator.
When the blade is pinched or bound tightly by the kerf closing down, the
blade stalls and the motor reaction drives the unit rapidly back toward
the operator. The kerf is the notch in the workpiece made by the blade as it
cuts through.
If the blade becomes twisted or misaligned in the cut, the teeth at the back
edge of the blade can dig into the top surface of the wood causing the
blade to climb out of the kerf and jump back toward the operator.
Kickback is the result of saw misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures
or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as
given below.
= Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the saw and position your arms
to resist kickback forces. Position your body to either side of the blade,
but not in line with the blade. Kickback could cause the saw to jump
backwards, but kickback forces can be controlled by the operator, if proper
precautions are taken.
= When the blade is binding, or when interrupting a cut for any reason,
release the trigger and hold the saw motionless in the material until
the blade comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the saw
from the work or pull the saw backward while the blade is in motion or
kickback may occur. Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate
the cause of blade binding.
Whenrestartingasaw in the workpiece, center the saw blade in the
kerr and check that saw teeth are not engaged into the material. If saw
blade is binding, it may walk up or kickback from the workpiece as the saw
is restarted.
• Support large panels to minimize the risk of blade pinching and
kickback. Large panels tend to sag under their own weight. Supports must
be placed under the panel on both sides, near the line of cut and near the
edge of the panel.
• Do not use dull or damaged blades. Unsharpened or improperly set
blades produce narrow kerr causing excessive friction, blade binding
and kickback.
• Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and
secure before making cut. If blade adjustment shifts while cutting, it may
cause binding and kickback.
• Use extra caution when sawing into existing walls or other blind areas.
The protruding blade may cut objects that can cause kickback.
Safety instructions for lower guard of saws
• Check the lower guard for proper closing before each use. Do not
operate the saw if the lower guard does not move freely and close
instantly. Never clamp or tie the lower guard into the open position. If the
saw is accidentally dropped, the lower guard may be bent. Raise the lower
guard with the retracting handle and make sure that it moves freely and does
not touch the blade or any other part, in all angles and all depths of cut.
Check the operation of the lower guard spring. If the guard and the
spring are not operating properly, they must be serviced before use.
The lower guard may operate sluggishly due to damaged parts, gummy
deposits, or a build-up of debris.
= The lower guard may be retracted manually only for special cuts,
such as "plunge cuts" and "compound cuts". Raise the lower guard by
retracting the handle and, as soon as blade enters the material, the lower
guard must be released. For all other sawing, the lower guard should
operate automatically.
= Always observe that the lower guard is covering the blade before
placing saw down on bench or floor. An unprotected, coasting blade will
cause the saw to walk backwards, cutting whatever is in its path. Be aware
of the time it takes for the blade to stop after switch is released.
ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES FOR CIRCULAR SAWS
= Keep hands away from cutting area and blade. Keep your second hand
on the auxiliary handle or motor housing. If both hands are holding the saw,
they cannot be cut by the blade.
= Do not use any abrasive wheels with the circular saw.

ERGONOMIC DESIGN
The design of the saw allows proper two=handed control when cutting, it has
been designed to be comfortable and easy to grasp.
0° TO 50 ° BEVEL ADJUSTMENT
The bevel adjustment Beverallows you to set the circular saw for bevel cuts from
0° to 50°.
INTEGRATED RiP AND CROSSCUT RULER
The base has integrated rip and crosscut rulers for quick reference when making
repetitive cuts.
SPINDLE=LOCK BUTTON
The spindleqock button allows you to secure the blade when turning the
blade screw.
LOCK=OFF BUTTON
The Beck=offbutton reduces the possibility of accidental starting. The button can
be used on either the left or right of the trigger switch.
DEPTH=OF=CUT ADJUSTMENT KNOB
The depth=of=cut adjustment knob adjusts the depth of cut a maximum
of 0 to 1 1/2 in. at 90° and 0 to 1 1/16 in. at 45°.
ELECTRIC BRAKE
The saw has an electric brake to quickly stop the blade from rotating.
HEX=KEY STORAGE
When not in use, the hex key can be placed in the storage area located at the
rear of the saw. Insert the hex key into the hole to store it.

battery pack or operate the circular saw until the broken or missing parts are
replaced. Failure to do so could result in possibly serious injury.

UNPACKING
* Carefully remove the tool and any accessories from the carton. Make sure
that all items listed in the packing list are included.
* Inspect the tool carefully to make sure that no breakage or damage
occurred during shipping.
* Do not discard the packing material until you have carefully inspected and
satisfactorily operated the tool.
* If any parts are damaged or missing, please return the tool to the place
of purchase.

complete charging instructions, refer to the Operator's Manual for the battery

SAW BLADES
The best of saw blades will not cut efficiently if they are not kept clean, sharp
and properly set.
Using a dull blade will place a heavy load on the saw and increase the danger of
kickback. Keep extra blades on hand, so that sharp blades are always available.

Gum and wood pitch that have hardened on the blades will slow the saw
down. Use gum and pitch remover, hot water or kerosene to remove these
accumulations. DO NOT USE GASOLINE.
,_IL WARNING: A blade diameter of 5 1/2 in. is the maximum blade capacity of
your saw. A blade diameter greater than 5 1/2 in. will come in contact with the
blade guards. Never use a blade that is so thick that it prevents the outer blade
washer from engaging with the flat side of the spindle. Blades that are too large
or too thick can result in an accident causing serious injury.
BLADE GUARD SYSTEM
The lower blade guard attached to your circular saw is there for your protection
and safety. It should never be altered for any reason. If it becomes damaged
or begins to return slowly or sluggishly, do not operate your saw until the blade
guard has been repaired or replaced. Always leave the guard in its correct
operating position when using the saw.
,_ DANGER: When sawing through a workpiece, the lower blade guard does
not cover the blade on the underside of the workpiece. Since the blade is
exposed on the underside of the workpiece, keep hands and fingers away from
the cutting area. Any part of your body coming in contact with a moving blade
will result in serious injury.
_, WARNING: Never use the saw when the guard is not operating properly.
The guard should be checked for correct operation before each use. If you drop
your saw, check that the lower blade guard and bumper for damage at all depth
settings before using.
,_ WARNING: When using the saw, always stay alert and exercise control. Do
not remove the saw from the workpiece while the blade is moving.
KICKBACK (Fig. 4)
Kickback occurs when the blade stalls rapidly and the saw is driven back
towards you. Blade stalling is caused by any action that pinches the blade in
the wood. To avoid kickback, release the trigger switch immediately if the blade
binds or saw stalls. Kickback could cause you to lose control of the saw.
Loss of control can lead to serious injury.

3. Make straight cuts. Always use a straight edge guide (available separately) when rip
cutting. This helps prevent twisting of the blade.
4. Use clean, sharp and properly set blades. Never make cuts with dull blades.

LOCK-OFF BUTTON (Fig. 8)
The lock-off button reduces the
possibility of accidental starting.
The lock-off button is located on the
handle above the trigger switch. The
lock-off button must be depressed
before you pull the trigger switch.
NOTICE: The lock-off button can
be operated from either the left or
right side.
TRIGGER SWITCH (Fig. 8)

To turn the circular saw ON, depress the lock-off button, and then squeeze
the trigger switch. Do not touch the blade to the workpiece until the saw has
reached full speed.
To turn the circular saw OFF, release the trigger switch and allow it to return to the
"OFF" position.
After you release the trigger switch, allow the blade to come to a complete stop.
Do not remove the saw from the workpiece while the blade is moving.
ELECTRIC BRAKE
The saw has an electric brake to quickly stop the blade from rotating. The
electric brake engages when the trigger switch is released. When the brake is
functioning properly, sparks may be visible through the vent slots in the motor
housing. This is normal and is the action of the brake.
NOTICE: If the electric brake repeatedly fails to quickly stop the blade rotation,
the saw should be repaired by a qualified service technician.

DEPTH=OF=CUT ADJUSTMENT
Always use the correct blade-depth setting. The correct blade-depth setting for
all cuts should not be more than 1/4 in. below the material being cut. Allowing
more depth will increase the chance of kickback and cause the cut to be rough.
Your saw is equipped with a depth-of-cut scale that provides enhanced depth-
of-cut accuracy.

Locate the depth scale on the
back of the upper blade guard.
Hold the base flat against the workpiece and raise or lower the saw until the indicator
aligns with the desired depth on the depth scale.
NOTICE: The depth scale may be tight; you can adjust the depth-of-cut
adjustment knob to loosen it. Take care not to make the depth-of-cut
adjustment knob too loose.
6. Tighten the depth-of-cut adjustment knob securely by turning it clockwise.
BEVEL ADJUSTMENTS
The angle of cut can be adjusted to any desired setting between 0°and 50°.
Because blade thicknesses vary and different angles require different settings,
always make a trial cut in scrap material along a guideline to determine how
much you should offset the guideline on the workpiece to be cut.
