Ingestion may cause irritation. Short term inhalation toxicity is low. Breathing small amounts during normal handling is not likely to cause harmful effects. Primary potential hazard is due to burns caused from handling hot product during application. Overexposure to hot vapor may cause eye and respiratory tract irritation, dizziness, headache, nausea, and flu like symptoms.

Chronic Health Effects: Prolonged, excessive or repeated exposure may cause mild skin irritation. Repeated and prolonged overexposure to vapors or mist may cause respiratory tract, nose and throat irritations.

Routes of Exposure/Entry: Eye contact, skin contact, inhalation, ingestions

Target Organs: Eyes, skin, respiratory system

Medical Conditions Aggravated by Exposure: Pre-existing skin problems may be aggravated by prolonged or repeated contact.

Persons with sensitive airways (i.e. asthmatics) may react to hot vapors. Contact with hot material may cause severe burns.

Section IV – First-Aid Measures

EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES: NOTE: Cool material as supplied is not expected to cause eye or skin irritation and it is not expected to cause any systemic

toxicity by ingestion.

Eye Contact: If hot material is splashed in eye immediately flush eyes with clean water for an extended time of not less than 5 minutes. Seek medical attention.

Skin Contact: If hot material is spilled on skin cool in cold water immediately. DO NOT try to peel solidified product from skin. Vegetable Oil or Baby Oil is recommended for removal from skin.

Inhalation: If affected, move to fresh air. If not breathing give artificial respiration.

Ingestion: No ingestions effects are known. Treat symptomatically. Consult a physician.

Notes: If irritation or other symptoms (as noted above) occur or persist from any route of exposure, remove the effected individual

from the area, and seek medical attention

Fire Fighting Procedures: Wear self contained breathing apparatus equipped with a full face piece and operated in a pressure

Section VI – Accidental Release Measures

Contain spill. If spilled in an enclosed area. Ventilate. Cool material to solidify. Wear proper personal protective clothing and equipment. Do not flush liquid in public sewer, water systems or surface waters. Recover as much as possible and absorb remainder with an inert material. Place into labeled closed containers and store in safe locations for proper disposal. Wash spilled areas with soap and water.

Section VII – Handling and Storage

Handling: For Hot Material avoid eye contact, repeated or prolonged skin contact or inhalation of vapors. Wash thoroughly after handling. Use in well ventilated areas.

Storage: Keep container closed when not in use. Do not store in open, unlabeled or mislabeled containers. Unheated material presents no known hazards. Store in areas where sources of ignition have been eliminated from vicinity of stored products.

Section VIII – Exposure Controls / Personal Protection

Engineering Controls: Provide effective general, and when necessary, local exhaust ventilation to draw vapors and fumes of

molten material away from workers to prevent routine inhalation.

Eye Protection: For operations where eye or face contact may occur wear safety glasses with side shields or goggles.

Skin Protection: Wear protective heat resistant gloves, aprons, long sleeve shirts and hard sole shoes when heating and/or

applying hot material.

Respiratory Protection: Melting of material should be limited to outside, open areas to ensure exposure limits are not exceeded. Use NOISH/MSHS approved respirator whenever exposure to fumes or vapors exceed exposure limits.

NTP: In its Ninth Annual Report on Carcinogens respirable quartz was classified as a known human carcinogen. IARC: According to Volume 68 of the IARC Monographs on the Evaluation of Risks to humans, concluded that there was

"sufficient evidence in humans for the carcinogenicity of quartz in the forms of quartz or cristobalite from occupational sources". IARC's evaluation was that "crystalline silica (quartz) inhaled in the form of quartz or cristobalite from occupational sources is carcinogenic to humans (group1) but was noted that carcinogenicity was not detected in all industrial studies.

OSHA: Quartz is not regulated as a carcinogen.

The quartz present is not respirable as this product is supplied.
