THE COSMOSTATIC OMNIDIRECTIONAL
This speaker is unique superb instrument. It is the only Omnidirectional (X,Y
axis 360) electrostatic speaker available today. It is the only electrostatic
system with an efficiency of 92 dB/watt with full usable dynamic range. It is
the only electrostatic system configured so that sound is generated over a large
area from an apparent point source. It is designed to provide, as nearly as
possible the psychoacoustic equivalent of hearing music in a theater or concert
hall.
Its sound is startlingly different from anything you may have heard.
• The clarity
• The tonal balance
• The fantastic imaging.
• The incredible dynamic range
• The sheer beauty
All are due to the use of electrostatic transducers arranged in a sort of sonic
umbrella, teamed with an outstanding woofer system. Unquestionably the best
possible state-of-the-art performance Electrostatic sound.

ELECTROSTATIC SOUND
The first thing you will notice is the superiority and clarity of the high
frequency reproduction: the sounds of cymbal crashes, cascading trumpets,
violin choirs, choral groups, pipe organs, woodwinds and sharply percussive
piano chords. Sounds that will raise your blood pressure. Once exposed to
electrostatic sound, you will not be able to abide conventional electromagnetic
sound.
UNIFORM DISPERSION
The Cosmostatic Omnidirectional is the only array which propagates a sound
in all directions and planes: 3600 in the X and Y axes with absolutely uniform
dispersion at all frequencies, from floor to ceiling.
3-DIMENSIONAL ACOUSTIC IMAGE
With the speakers rolled out away from the wall for serious listening, you will
be able to pinpoint the position of every performer within - and even beyond the boundaries of the listening room. Walk into the line of the speakers and
you are walking toward, through, and past the orchestra. The illusion is total.
HIGH EFFICIENCY AND DYNAMIC RANGE
The Cosmostatic Omnidirectional performs flawlessly from the very threshold
of audibility to wall-battering levels. And it will deliver this performance with
50 to 100 watts per channel. New digital, direct disc or DBX-encoded records
are effortlessly reproduced with their full dynamic range. The built-in
impedance matching .....
UNIFORM DISPERSION 360 IN X- AND Y- AXES
The Sound that would emanate from a musical performer on a rotating
turntable would not vary as it slowly revolves. The same world be true of the
sound emanating from a Cosmostatic Omnidirectional mounted on a similar
Page 3
rotating turntable. Each Cosmostatic is a 360 X- and Y-axes, circular source
point, as compared to most other speaker systems which are 180 X-axis sound
sources al best.
The electrostatic umbrella is made up of eleven drivers. Eight or which are
mounted octagonally with a slight upward tilt and three of which are top
mounted triangularly, with a slight downward tilt. Each driver generates sound
of equal amplitude both sides at the membrane. The Front and back signals are
180 out of phase from each other. No attempt is made to dampen, block,
remove or focus the back wave signal. Instead, the geometric configuration is
such that no standing wave interference is produced at the usable frequency
range, and there is no spot surrounding the speaker up or down or around that
is not receiving direct on-axis audio radiation. The full-bodied sound is
radiated as a pulsating hemisphere.
THREE DIMENSIONAL ACOUSTICAL IMAGE
At a concert you will notice that neither orchestra nor performer is positioned
at the rear of the siege or against the wall For optimum acoustical effect the
Cosmostatic Omnidirectional speakers should be placed one to three feet away
from the wall. Large free-turning casters at the base of the speakers allow them
to be easily moved in any direction.
When the speakers are property located you will be able to pinpoint the
position of any performer in relation to other performers, front to back or side
to side. Since the sound is dispersed in all directions, walking between or
behind the speakers will not change the sound reproduction but will merely
alter the spatial location at the sound. This is particularly noticeable at higher
frequencies where conventionel speakers or other electrostatic speaker systems
can exhibit attenuation of the highs as you move out of the axis of direct audio
radiation.
COSMOSTATIC DESIGN FEATURES
The cabinet is solidly constructed of a dense, high mass, wood substrate, 3/4
inches in thickness, laminated in a selected wood veneer. A truncated
pyramidal structure is affixed to the top of the cabinet. Four 6.5 inch woofers
are mounted on the sloping sides of the pyramid. A 37mm especially designed
transfer frequency dome is mounted on the truncated top of the structure.
The cabinet is internally divided into two different volume compartments each
having different resonant frequency. The two compartments are vented and
coupled to each other. One passive radiator (larger chamber) is on the back
face of the cabinet and the other is on the bottom of the cabinet facing the
floor. The smaller chamber is damped with poly-fil and the larger with longhaired lambs wool, both chambers having been matched for equal Q. This
system, although unconventional, has been successfully used and provides a
smooth uniform loading across the entire bass region. Our measurements
indicate that we begin to drop at 31 Hz and are down by only 5 dB at 25 Hz.
Page 4
The specially designed 6.5 inch woofers are of the shallow cone type, with 1
inch voice coils wound with poly-thermal wire on aluminum forms mounted in
a dual 16 oz magnet assembly. These woofers have plenty of reserve power
handling capacity., This size woofer has a much lower mass-to-magnet ratio
than 12 or 15 inch woofers and has been selected to more closely match the
fast transient response of the electrostatics. This system produces a tight, clean
bass and is comparable to the best woofer systems available today.
The 37 mm transfer dome speaker commences to provide a smooth transfer
from the bass woofer system to the fast electrostatic system at 1000 Hz. The
dome is introduced into the system via a leading edge filter at 1000 Hz and
commences to roll off at 1500 Hz. It's roll off characteristic is matched to the
electrostatics which come on softly at 1000 Hz and are dominant at 3800 Hz.
The taper has been carefully controlled and the 37 mm dome has been
configured so that it effectively contributes very little to the sound at
frequencies above 3500 Hz. This transfer dome effects a smooth transition
from the electromagnetic woofers to the electrostatic tweeters and is the very
necessary bridge between the two types of different sound sources. Although
it's spectrum is restricted, it's contribution to the overall performance is crucial.
