If this refrigerator featuring magnetic door seals is to replace an older appliance having a spring lock on the door or lid, be sure to make that spring lock unusable before you discard the old appliance. This will prevent it from becoming a death-trap for a child.
Location
Place the appliance as far away as possible from sources of heat, e.g. radiators, heaters, direct sunlight, etc. The best results are achieved with a room temperature ranging from +16°C to +32°C (class N) or from +18°C to +38°C (class ST). The class of your appliance is shown on its rating plate.
Power connection
Before plugging the appliance into the mains socket, check that the voltage and frequency indicated on the appliance’s rating plate are the same as those provided by your home power supply. A 6% fluctuation above or below rated voltage is acceptable. For operation using different voltages you should use an autotransformer of suitable capacity. The appliance’s plug and the wall socket are fully compatible, without any need to use adaptors, multiple plugs, etc. If this is not the case, the wall socket should be replaced to make it compatible.
The appliance MUST be connected to an efficient earth or ground tap.
The supply lead plug in fact incorporates a special earth or ground contact for this purpose. If by any chance the sockets of your domestic wiring system are not earthed, the appliance must be connected to a separate earth or ground wire by a qualified electrician, in accordance with existing safety regulations.
The manufacturer declines to accept any liability if this accident-prevention procedure is not followed.

USE
Starting-up and temperature regulation
Insert the plug into the wall socket. Open the refrigerator door and turn the thermostat knob, located on the upper right side of the inner liner clockwise, beyond the «O» position, to start the appliance.
Temperature adjustment is obtained by turning the thermostat knob to the required setting. A medium setting is generally the most suitable. However, the thermostat knob setting should be adjusted depending on the temperature required inside the appliance. This, in turn, depends on a number of factors such as the ambient temperature, the number of times the door is opened, the quantity of food stored and the location of the appliance.
Turn the knob clockwise, to higher numbers, to obtain a lower temperature, or anticlockwise if a higher temperature is required.
Freezing fresh food and storage of frozen food
The 4-star compartment ( ) is suitable for longterm storage of frozen food (not more that 3 months) and for freezing fresh food.
The maximum amount of food which is freezable in 24 hours is indicated on the rating plate.
You should never freeze all at once a greater quantity of fresh foods than the maximum indicated on the appliance’s rating plate.
Never exceed the expiry dates shown on the packs. Under normal circumstances, to freeze fresh foods it
is not necessary to change the thermostat knob setting from the normal running position.
However, for faster freezing, turn the thermostat knob to the coldest setting; but remember that, in this condition, the refrigerator compartment temperature might drop below 0 °C. If this occurs reset thermostat knob to a warmer setting.
To help you achieve the best results, here are some important hints:
Only freeze top quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned, foodstuffs.
Prepare fresh food in small portions to enable it to be rapidly and completely frozen and to make it possible subsequently to thaw only the quantity required at the time.
Wrap the food in aluminium foil or polythene and make sure that the packages are airtight.
Place the food to be frozen on the upper drawer of the freezer compartment, as this is the coldest place.
On the inner door of the compartment you will find a list of foods followed by a number. These numbers indicate the maximum period of time for which the food in question may be stored (in months).
Food to be frozen should not be in contact with fr ozen foods in order to avoid an increase in temperature.
Warning
Never put fizzy drinks in the freezer as they might well burst.
Once food has thawed out, use it very quickly, since it deteriorates fast.
Storage of frozen food
Hints for the storage of commercially frozen food: Do not open the door frequently or leave it open long-
er than is absolutely necessary. If there is a power failure when food is in the freezer,
do not open the door of the freezer compartment. Frozen food will not be affected if the power cut is of
short duration, otherwise it is recommended that the food be used within a very short time.
The interval between the time when you buy frozen foods and when you put them in the freezer should be as short as possible.
The expiry dates on the packages should never be exceeded.
Thawing
Deep-frozen or frozen food, prior to being used, can be thawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room temperature, depending on the time available for this operation.
Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen, directly from the freezer: in this case, cooking will take longer.
Food refrigeration
To achieve the best results with the refrigerator compartment, you should follow one or two very simple rules:
Do not put warm foods or evaporating liquids in the refrigerator. Cover or wrap foods (particularly if they have a strong smell). Do not cover the shelves (grids) with paper or plastic since this blocks circulation of air in the compartment.

Hints for correct use: Raw meat
(beef, pork, lamb, poultry and game): wrap in polythene bags and place on top of the salad crisper and, for safety, only store in this way for one or two days at the most.
Fruit & vegetables:
these should be thoroughly
cleaned and placed in the bottom salad crisper.
Butter & cheese:
these should be placed in special airtight containers or wrapped in aluminium foil or polythene bags to exclude as much air as possible.
Milk bottles:
these should have a cap and should be
stored in the bottle rack on the door.
Movable shelves
The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a series of runners so that the shelves can be positioned as desired.

Positioning the door shelves
To permit storage of food packages of various sizes, the door shelves can be adjusted in height. To make these adjustments proceed as follows:
Gradually pull the shelf in the direction of the arrows until it comes free, then reposition as required.
The butter storage shelf (for models fitted with this accessory) has an adjuster for controlling the temperature. Slots open: cooler temperature. Slots closed: warmer temperature.

Defrosting
Frost is automatically eliminated from the evaporator of the refrigerator compartment every time the motor compressor stops, during normal use. The defrost water drains out through a trough (Fig. 18) into a special container on the back of the appliance where it evaporates.
To clean the drainage hole use the special cleaner provided, which you will find already inserted into the hole.

The freezer compartment, however, will become progressively covered with frost. This should be removed with the special plastic scraper provided, whenever the thickness of the frost exceeds 4 mm.
During this operation it is not necessary to switch off the power supply or to remove the foodstuffs. However, when the ice becomes very thick on the inner liner, complete defrosting should be carried out and it is advisable to perform this operation when the appliance is empty.
To carry out complete defrosting of the freezer compartment ( ) proceed as follows:
Unplug the appliance from the power supply or set the thermostat on the «O» position. Remove the frozen foods and wrap them in several sheets of newspaper and then keep them in a cool place.
Leave the door open. Place the plastic scraper in the middle, on the bottom
of the appliance, as shown in Fig. 19; place a basin underneath to collect defrost water.
Fig. 19
After complete defrosting thoroughly dry the refrigerator compartment. Keep the scraper for future use. Reconnect the appliance to the power supply, start it up and, after half an hour, replace the foods pr eviously removed from the freezer.
Important
Remember that an increase in the surface temperature of already-frozen foods may significantly decrease their storage life.
Never use knives or metal objects to scrape away the accumulated frost as this might damage the cooling circuit.

MAINTENANCE
D025
If the appliance is not functioning properly check that: the plug is firmly in the wall socket and the mains
power switch is on; there is no power failure; the control knob is in the
right position.
Furthermore, if the appliance seems too noisy check that the sides are not touching furniture that can transmit or amplify noise or vibration. Also, check that the refrigerant unit does not vibrate.
If there is water on the fridge bottom, make sure the defrost water drainage hole is not clogged (Fig. 18).
If your appliance is still not working properly after making the above checks, contact your local dealer or the nearest service center.
To obtain fast service, it is essential that when you apply for it you specify the model and serial number of your appliance which can be found on the warranty certificate or inside the appliance on the rating plate.
Unplug the appliance before carrying out any maintenance operation.
Periodical cleaning
Clean the interior periodically with lukewarm water and some sodium bicarbonate; the cabinet exterior with a silicone wax spray; the condenser and the motor compressor with a brush or a vacuum cleaner.
Periods of non-operation
During periods when the appliance is not in use, take the following precautions:
unplug the appliance from the power supply; remove all foodstuffs from the appliance; clean the interior and all accessories; leave the doors ajar to facilitate the circulation of air in
the interior of the cabinet so as to prevent unpleasant odours from accumulating in the appliance.
Replacing the interior light bulb
The light inside the refrigerator compartment is easy to get at through the opening in the light holder. If the light does not go on when the door is open, check that it is screwed into place properly. If it still does not light up, change the bulb.
The rating is shown on the light bulb cover.
