Open the batter y/c able compartment located in t he m iddle of the back of the unit
to access the 3 foot probe cable and bat tery (see Fig . 2).
2. Press and hold O n/Fast butt on to activate the Fast update rat e (2 second update
rate). The update rate will return to N ormal (10 second update rate) af ter
releasing On/Fast button. The battery is exhaus t ed sooner when using fast
sensing.
3. Place your thumb on t he m iddle of the front of the unit and slide the top cover
down to expose t he c ontrols (see Fig . 1).
4. Slide the °F/°C switch to °F to display the temperature in Fahrenheit or to °C
to display the tem per at ure in Celsius.
5. Press Off/ A uto Off Button twice to turn the unit of f. To conserve battery life,
always turn the unit of f when not in use.
SETTING HIGH TEMPERATURE AL ARM
1. Place your thumb on t he m iddle of the front of the unit and s lide t he top cover down to expose
the contro ls (see Fig. 1).
2. Verify unit is in T her m om eter mode by pressing Temp/ Timer button until temperature read ing
appears on dis play.
3. Press the HI/Hour button once to ac c es s High Temperatur e Alarm. HI and ALARM indicators
appear on the d is play.
4. Press HI/Hour button again to adv anc e s etting by one d egree. Press and hold HI/ Hour button
for rapid t em per at ur e advancement (10 digits at a tim e) . C ont inue pr es s ing Hi/Hour but ton
until desired temperature setting appears on display.
Note: The High Temperature A lar m r ange is from –50 t o 260° C ( –58 t o 500°F). Onc e the
display has bee n advanced t o 260° C ( 500°F), the dis play w ill roll over to 50°C ( –58° F) with
next press of Hi/Hour button.
5. Once desired temperatur e s et ting appears on d is play, do not press an y butt ons . After a few
seconds, the display will retur n to the current t em per at ur e r eading. A HI ind ic ation will appear
along bottom of display to signal that the High T em per ature Alarm is set .
SETTING L O W TEM PE RATURE ALARM
1. Place your thumb on t he m iddle of the front of the unit and s lide t he top cover down to expose
the contro ls (see Fig. 1).
2. Verify unit is in T her m om eter mode by pressing Temp/ Timer button until temperature read ing
appears on dis play.
3. Press Lo/Min but ton once to access Low Temperatur e Alarm. LO and A LA R M indicators
appear on display.
4. Press Lo/Min but ton again to advance setting by one d egree. Press and hold Lo/Min button for
rapid temperature advancement (10 digit s at a time). Continue pressing Lo/Min but ton until
desired temperature set t ing appears on display.
Note: The Low Temperature Alarm range is from –50 to 260°C (–58 to 500°F). Onc e the
display has bee n advanced t o 260° C ( 500°F), the dis play w ill roll over to –50°C ( –58°F)
5. Once desired temperatur e s et ting appears on d is play, do not press an y butt ons . After a few
seconds, the display will retur n to the current t em per at ure reading. A LO indication will appe ar
along bottom of display to signal that the Low Temper at ur e Alarm is set.

TEMPERATURE ALARM
When the temperature on the display matches or is outs ide of the high or low r ange setting s , the
alarm will sound for 1 minute and t he c or r es ponding HI or LO ind ic ator will flash. The HI or LO
indicator will continue flash ing after 1 minut e unt il a button is pressed . To silence a sound ing alarm,
press any button.
Note: Switc hing between Thermom eter and Timer modes will not affect Hig h or Low Temperature
Alarms. If unit is in Timer mode when a High or Low Temperat ure Alarm activates , alarm wi ll sound
and HI or LO indic ator will flash on display.
DISABLING A TEMPERATURE ALARM S E TTING
1. Place your thumb on t he m iddle of the front of the unit and s lide t he top cover down to expose
the contro ls (see Fig. 1).
2. Press Hi/Hour or Lo/Min button o nc e t o ac c es s t he H igh or Low Temperatur e Alarm setting. Hi
or LO and ALA RM indicators will appear on display.
3. Press On/Fast button to clear the High or Low Temperature A larm set ting. Four das hes will
appear on the d is play indicating t he alarm is disab led.
Note: Pres s ing On/Fast but t on again will return dis play to the previous H igh or Low
Temperature Alarm setting . E ac h pr es s of On/Fast button will toggle between enabled and
disabled alarm s ettings.
4. Allow thermometer to return to curr ent temperature reading. HI and/or LO indicators(s) will no
longer appear along bottom of display when the a larm is disabled.
RECALL MINI M UM /MAXIMUM MEMO RY
1. Place your thumb on t he m iddle of the front of the unit and s lide t he top cover down to expose
the contro ls (see Fig. 1).
2. Press Max/ M in but ton as necessar y to cycle through max im um ( M A X ) , minimum (MIN), and
current temper ature recordings on displa y.
Note: The M in/ M ax memory is automat ically record ed once the batter y is placed into serv ic e.
Turning the unit off will NOT reset t he memories. The m em or ies m us t be r es et manually (see
“Reset Minimum/ Maximum Memory”).
RESET MINIMUM/MAXIMUM MEMORY
1. Place your thumb on t he m iddle of the fr ont of the unit and slide the top cover down to expose
the contro ls (see Fig. 1).
2. Press Max/ M in but ton until either the max imum or minimum r ec or ding appears on display. A
MAX or MIN indic at or will appear along bot tom of display to signal when the maximum or
minimum recording is display ed.
3. Press and hold O n/Fast butt on until the maximum or min im um r ec or ding chang es t o the
current temper ature recording.
Note: When resett ing minimum or max im um t emperature memories, the curr ent temperature
becomes the new minimum or maxim um r ecor ding.
TIMER USAGE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place your thumb on t he m iddle of the front of the unit and s lide t he top cover down to expose
the contro ls (see Fig. 1).
2. Press Temp/ Timer button t o ac c es s Timer mode. A TIMER indication will appear in the righttop corner of display when unit is in Timer mode.
3. Verify timer is NO T counting d ow n by view ing the display. If timer is counting down, press
Start/S t op button to interrupt countdown t im ing.
4. Press and hold O n/Fast butt on until the display reads 00:00:00.
5. Press Hi/Hour but ton to advance t he hour s etting. F or r apid advancement (10 digits at a time) ,
press and ho ld Hi/Hour button.
6. Press Low/Min but ton to advance t he m inute setting. For rapid advancement (10 digits at a
time), press and hold Low/Min button.
7. Once desired time is on display, Pr es s S tart/St op but ton to begin countdown timing.
8. To pause countd own timing, pres s S t ar t/Stop butt on t o freez e display. To resume timing,
press Start /Stop button again. An unlimited number of time-outs m ay be taken in this manner.
9. When countd own r eaches 00:00:00, alarm will sound for 1 minute and TIMER indication will
flash on display. TIMER indicat ion will continue flashing after 1 minute unti l a butt on is
pressed. The alarm may be silenced manually b y press ing any key.
Note: Switc hing between Timer and Thermomet er m odes will not affec t countdown t im ing. If
unit is in Thermometer mode when Tim er alarm activat es , alarm will sound and TIMER
indication wi ll f las h on display.
CLIP
The unit is supp lied with a clip, located on the upper back of t he unit, which may be used to clip the
thermometer to a clipboard , notebook, or lab coat. ( s ee Fig. 2)

STAND
The unit is also supplied with a benc h s tand that is a par t of t he battery cover. To use the benc h
stand, locate the small rectangular opening at the bott om of the unit. Place your fing er nail into the
opening and flip the stand up. T o c lose the stand, simply snap it shut.
ALL OPERATI O NAL DIFFICULTIES
If this thermom eter does not f unc tion properly for an y reason, please replace the batter y w ith a new
high quality batt ery (see “Batt ery R eplacement ” section). Low battery power can occasionally
cause any number of “a ppar ent” operational difficulties. Replacing the battery with a new fresh
battery will so lve mos t difficulties.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
Erratic readings, a faint alarm, no alarm, a faint display, or no display are all indicator s t hat the
battery must be replaced. T o r eplac e the battery, open the battery compar tment door loc at ed on
the back of the unit ( s ee Fig. 2). Remove the exhausted battery and replace it with a new AAA
alkaline 1.5 vo lt battery. Snap the bat tery compartm ent s hut.
