1. Introduction
1. Introduction About the Pr oduct
This product is a power supply unit that generates a stable power supply from a 12VDC or 24VDC car battery power supply.
Even though it has a compact, slitless case with dimensions of 86 (W) × 155 (D) × 44 (H) mm, it supports a wide range of temperatur es from -20 to 70°C. This product can be used to protect computer systems from unstable power supply environments in which problems such as surges, voltage fluctuations, and instantaneous voltage drops occur randomly.
It is equipp e d w i th a sepa rate p o w e r supply output for externa l d e vices o t h er than a c o m puter, so it can provide stable power to other devices in the same manner as the stable power that is provided to the PC.
If you install on your computer the utility software (which can be downloaded free of charge) for use in Windows, you can start and shut down the computer by linki ng to the ignition switch.
This product can be used with the CONTEC models shown below.

Features

Supports the voltage drops that occur when an engine starts When an engine starts, the battery voltage drops and may remain at a low voltage for a fixed length of time. This product continues to provide the BOX-PC with a stable power supply even during this period of time.

This warrant y is not applicable for scratches or normal wear, but only for the electronic circuitry and original products. The warranty is not applicable if the device has been tampered with or damaged through abuse, mistreatment, neglect, or unreason a ble use, or if the origin al invoice is not included, in which case repairs will be considered beyond the warranty policy.

For replacement or repair, return the device freight prepaid, with a copy of the original invoice. Please obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization number (RMA) from the CONTEC group office where you purchased before returning any produ ct.

Handling Precautions

If this product must be used in such an environment, install it on a dust-proof control panel, for example.
- Avoid using or storing this product in locations subject to shock or vibration that exceeds rang e of specification.
- Do not use this product in the vicinity of devices that generate strong magnetic force or noise. Such products will cause this product to malfunction.
- Do not u se or store this produ ct in the presence of chemicals.
- To clean this product, wipe it gently with a soft cloth dampened with either water or mild detergent. Do not use chemicals or a volatile solvent, such as benzene or thinner, to prevent pealing or discoloration of the paint.
- This product’s case may become hot. To avoid being burned, do not touch that section while this product is in operation or immediately after turning off the power. Avoid installation in a location where people may come into contact with that section.
- CONTEC reserves the right to refuse to service a product modified by the user.
- In the event of failure or abnormality (foul smells or excessive heat generation), unplug the power cord immediately and contact your retailer.
- If the fuse needs to be replaced, the product will have to be repaired. In this situation, contact your retailer.

This chapt er explains how to set up the product.

What Is Setu p?

Setup re f ers to t h e operations that are required to enable the use of the product and that must be performed before using the product.
There are operations that need to be performed on the software and operations that need to be performed on the hardware.
You can prepare the software and the hardware by using the power supply monitoring utility software and performing the operations according to the steps explained in this chapter. You can download this software from the CONTEC web site.

This section explains the procedure for setting this product and connecting it to a PC.

Use the USB cable included with the target CONTEC product or a straight-through RS-232C cable (not included) to connect this product to a PC.
For details on the component names, see "Chapter 4, Each Component Function."

Stetp2 Installation of the software

Install the software. Download the power supply monitoring uti li ty f rom the CONTEC website, and then run "install.bat." (1) The Visual C++ library in staller starts.
If you accept the terms of the license agreement, select the "I agree to the license terms and conditions" chec k box, and then clic k "Install."
If the Visual C++ library has already been installed, click "Close," and then contin ue from step (3).
(2) When the installation of the Visual C++ library completes, click "Close."

(3) The power supply monitoring utility installer starts.
Click "Next."
(4) Select "Everyone" or "Just me," and then click "Next." * Do not change the folder. Doing so will prevent the software from operating correctly.

(5) Click "Next."
(6) This completes the installation of the power supply monitoring utility.
Click "Close."

(7) When the installation is finished, the power supply monitoring utility is displayed.
Select the port number from the "Port" combo box, and then click "Adapt." For USB communication, a driver must be installed separately. Install the driver according to the instructions in "Step 3 Installation of the hardware."
(8) When the installation is completed normally, "Connection status" is set to "OPEN," and the
product's information is displayed.
(9) This completes the installation. If the software does not operate normally, check the port number,
and then restart the software.

CAUTION

Step3 Installation of the hardware

In Windows, it is necessary to have the OS recognize the peripheral equipment. This is known as the installation of the hardware. This step is not necessary when you are usin g serial communication.

Connecti n g t h e P ro duct

(1) Use the USB cable to connect the target CONTEC product to this product. (2) Tur n o n this pr oduct. (3) If you install the USB cable attachment, it will become difficult to disconnect the USB cable from
the produ ct .
- You cannot use the USB cable attachment with anything other than the included cable.
- With the USB cable attachment installed, do not repeatedly disconnect and connect the USB cable on the product side. Doing so may damage the USB cable attachment or lead to injury.
Install the driver software.
Download the PWI-60D6D2 driver from the CONTEC website, and then run "CDM v2.12.00 WHQL Certified.exe."
(1) When you start the program, the following screen is displayed. To continue, click [Extract].

(3) If you agree to the terms of the license agreement, select [I accept this agreement], and then click
[Next].

(4) The installation begins. When the installation completes, click [Finish].

Step4 Initial settings of the software

The COM port has already been assigned by the hardware installation. If you want to check or change the COM port or if you want to set the COM port communication,
Device Manager as shown below.
Starting Device Manager (1) From [Control Panel], select [System], and then start [Device Manager].

(2) Check that the recognized USB devices are displayed in the [USB] folder. (3) Check that the added COM port is displayed in the [Port] folder.
This completes the initial settings of the software.
Updating the Settings. (1) If you want to change the port number, display the properties of the port that you want to change,
and then click [Advanced] on the [Port Settings] tab.
(2) You can change the COM port number from the [Com Port Number] combo box.
This completes the initial settings of the software.

Step5 How to operate the software

(1) Displays the firmware version of the product. (2) You can use this to select the COM port number. (3) Displays the baud rate. You cannot change this value. (4) Displays the COM connection status . (5) Displays the ON/OFF state of the ignition switch. (6) Select whether to enable balloon notifications when the ignition switch turns off. (7) You can use this to set the balloon notification start time. (8) Displays the input volt age being applied to the product. (9) Displays the low battery detection status. (10) Select whether to enable balloon notifications when a low battery state is detected. (11) Displ ays th e l o w ba ttery thres h old. You can no t c hange this value. (12) You ca n use this to run the speci fied program . (13) You can use this to set the time until the OS shuts down. (14) You can use this to set the time until the product's output turns off. The setting range is 0 to 255
seconds. You cannot set this to a value that is shorter than the "Time until the OS shuts down"
setting. (15) Return the settings to thei r initial values . (16) Return the s e t t ing to i t s previously s e t value. (17) Save the settings. (18) Close the power supply monitoring utility screen.

Uninstall software

To uninstall the power supply monitoring utility that you have set up, follow the procedure shown below.
(1) From the list of programs on the Start menu, click "Uninstaller" under "Battery Monitor Utility."
(2) Select "Remove," and then click "Finish."

- Remove only those screws that are explained. Do not move any other screw.

Attaching the Attachment Fittings

(1) Use screws to attach the bundled attachment fittings with a screw.
Do not tighten screws with excess forc e.

Screw holes may be damaged if screws are tightened with a torque greater than the specified torque.
The specified tighte ning torque is 5 - 6kgf⋅cm.

Installation Requirements

There are limits to the ambient temperature range depending on the installation orientation. Be sure that the operating temperature is within the range specified in the installation environment
requirement by making space between the product and device that generates heat or exhaust air. Also, after checking the temperature derating, adjust the load factor to match the usage environment.

Note that even though the ambient temperature is within the specified range, an operational
malfunction may occur if there is other device generating high heat; the radiation will influence the
prod uct to increase its temperatu re.
