Write Access Mean Time Before Failure
The PC-SDD H series accesses the same sector when overwriting a file. If a write error occurs, a substitute sector is used (290 substitute sectors are provided).
Accordingly, the mean time before failure for write access is the time until all of the substitute sectors are used up.
The calculation formula is different depending on whether the size of the file being written to is less than or greater than 32MB.

(i) Size of file being written to is less than 32MB
(ii) Size of file being written to is 32MB or more
Example 1: All 9.6MB of a 9.6MB file is overwritten once every 5 minutes
This corresponds to case (i). Average number of writes before failure [No. of accesses]
= 10,834,313 Number of writes per hour [Writes/Hour] = 12 (Once every 5 minutes)
Mean time before failure for write access [Hours] = 10,834,313/12 = 902,859 (= 103 years approx.)
Example 2: All 40MB of a 40MB file is overwritten once every 5 minutes
This corresponds to case (ii) Average number of writes before failure [No. of accesses]
= 2,444,585 Number of writes per hour [No. of accesses/Hour] = 12 (Once every 5 minutes)
Mean time before failure for write access [Hours] = 2,444,585/12 = 203,715 (= 23 years approx.)

Example 3: Number of swaps per hour and swap interval that will give a mean time before failure of 10 years (87,600 hours), when the swap size is 32MB or more
This corresponds to case (ii) Number of swaps per hour [No. of accesses/Hour]
= 2,444,585/87,600 = 27.9 Swap interval [Minutes/Swap] = 60/27.9 = 2.15
Accordingly, if the measured swap interval is 2.15 minutes or more, the mean time before failure will be 10 years or longer.
