1. Introduction
Operation guaranteed in a temperature range from -20 to +60° C with a v ibrati on res istanc e of 5G a nd an
impact resistance of 100G
The radiation structure with a built-in heater and the cabinet ensures a stable operation at any
temperature between -20 and +60
With a vibration resistance of 5G and an impact resistance of
°C.
100G, the product can also be used for mobile devices.
Safety design required for embedded applications
Unnecessary trouble can be avoided by the use of insulation lock clamps for prevention of cable
disconnection and the use of metal fittings for prevention of CF card disconnection.
An abnormal voltage or temperature is detected to shut down the system automatically.
Retention of CMOS data by EEPROM allows the system to start up even when the battery has run out.
Windows XP Embedded EWF function allows the power to be switched off without shutting down the
system. For OS-installed Models, Windows XP Embedded EWF function allows the power to be
switched off without shutting down the system.
* EWF (Enhanced Write Filter) is a function specific to Windows XP Embedded that protects the disk from being actually written by
redirecting the writing to RAM.
The adoption of a fan-less, CF card configuration providing high levels of reliability and quietness
As the cabinet itself forms an aluminum heat sink without a fan and with a CF card (bootable) as the
storage device, high levels of reliability and quietness have been achieved.
A wide range of power supplies (12 - 24VDC) supported
Supporting a wide range of power supp lies ( 12 - 24VDC) al lows t he power t o be su pplie d eve n from the
battery inside a mobile device.
Various installation methods available
Since the adoption of a CF card and sealed struct ure frees the produc t from insta llation lim itations, it can
be installed on a ceiling, wall or floor using the attached metal fixings.

Boot Menu
After you turn on, it will attempt to load the operating system from the drive of your choice. If it cannot
find the operating system on that drive, it will attempt to load it from one or more other drives in the
order specified in the Boot Menu. Selecting "Boot" from the Menu Bar displays the Boot menu, which
looks like this:
You can arrange the boot order list at the top of this menu to specify the order of the devices from which
the BIOS will attempt to boot the Operating System . T o m ove a device, firs t select it wit h the up-or -down
arrows, and move it up or down using the <+> and <-> keys.
The following sections describe each of the options on this menu. Note that <Esc> does not exit this
menu. You must select one of the items from the menu or menu bar to exit.
Exit saving changes
After making your selections on the Setup menus, always select either "Saving Values" or "Save
Changes." Both procedures store the selections displayed in the menus in CMOS (short for
"battery-backed CMOS RAM") a special section of memory that stay s on a fter you turn y our system off.
The next time you boot your computer, the BIOS configures your system according to the Setup
selections stored in C MO S.
If you attempt to exit without saving, the program asks if you want to save before exiting
During boot up, PhoenixBIOS attempts to load the values saved in CMOS. If those values cause the
system boot to fail, reboot and press <F2> to enter Setup. In Setup, you can get the Default Values (as
described below) or try to change the selections that caused the boot to fail.
Exit Discarding Changes
If, during a Setup Session, you change your mind about changes you have made and have not yet saved
the values to CMOS, you can restore the values you previously saved to CMOS.

Windows or MS-DOS screen can be displayed properly.
In this case, change the resolution or display frequency of Windows so that it is not the same as for

* If the BIOS detects error 2C, 2E, or 30 (base 512K RAM error), it displays an additional word-bitmap (xxxx)
indicating the address line or bits that failed. For example, "2C 0002" means address line 1 (bit one set) has
failed."2E 1020" means data bits 12 and 5 (bits 12 and 5 set) have failed in the lower 16 bits. Note that error 30
cannot occur on 386SX systems because they have a 16 rather than 32-bit bus. The BIOS also sends the bitmap to
theport-80 LED display. It first displays the check point code, followed by a delay, the high-order byte, another delay,
and then the low-order byte of the error. It repeats this sequence continuously.

Baud Rate Settings
A baud rate is set by software by dividing the clock input (1.8432MHz). The baud rate in terms of
hardware can be set to a maximum of 115,200 bps for SERIAL1, 2, 3. The baud rates available in
practice depend on the operating environment (cable, software, etc.). The table below lists typical baud
rates and their respective values to be written to the divisor latch register (LSB, MSB).

Watch-Dog-Timer
The watchdog timer serves as a safeguard against possible system lock-up in your indus trial co mputer
system. In most industrial environments, there are heavy equipment, generators, high-voltage power
lines, or power drops that have adverse effects on your computer system. For instance, when a power
drop occurs, it could cause the CPU to come to a halt state or enter into an infinite loop, resultin g in a
system lock-up.
The application software created by user with the watchdog timer enabled, a RESET automatically
generated unless the software periodically triggers the tim er within the setting t ime-out interval. That is,
while the system gets hung up, th e running program can’t trigger the timer periodically. The timer will
generate a reset signal to reboot the system. This feature allows a running program to restart in an
orderly way when a power glitch or any abnormal condition occurs.
The watchdog timer comes with 255-level time-out interval, 1 - 255 seconds per interval, which can be
adjusted by software setting. There is a tolerance of 2 sec ond for t his time- out inter val. T o mainta in the
normal system operation, trigger the timer periodically by the user-created program in consideration of
the tolerance.
The CD-ROM [IPC-SLIB-01], which is bundled with the product, contains a sample program for the
watchdog timer. To see the sample program for the watchdog timer, decompress “HWMandRTCut.zip”
in \RasUtility\Samples\Module.
Ex.) If the time-out interval is set to 30 seconds, the user-created program must retrigger the watchdog
timer before 28 seconds will have elapsed in consi deration of the tolerance. I f the program failed to
retrigger the timer (if 28 - 32 seconds have elapsed), the system will automatically reboot.
The I/O port is defined at address 2e/2fH. You can trigger/enable disable the timer by writing address
2e/2fH.
Here is an example for flow chart and programming how to use the watch-dog-timer.
