Handling Precautions
Please be careful to observe the following precautions whenever
handling this product.
- Do not subject the board to physical shock or bending. This can
damage the board.
- Do not attempt to modify the product in any way.
The manufacturer will not be responsible for any products that
have been modified.
- Do not touch the gold-plated contacts (edge connectors) with
your bare hands. This can prevent proper connections. If the
contacts have been touched, they should be wiped clean with an
industrial alcohol solution.
- Install the BUS-PC(PCI) in a PCI-compliant expansion slot in the
PC main unit.
- Do not plug or unplug the board into/from the slot with the PC
main unit or FA-PAC(PCI)F13 powered, or it may cause a fault.
Be sure to turn off the PC main unit or FA-PAC(PCI)F13 before
plugging or unplugging the board.
- The total current consumption by the boards installed in
expansion slots in the FA-PAC(PCI)F13 must not exceed the
maximum power capacity of the power supply of the
FA-PAC(PCI)F13. Otherwise, it may cause a fault.
- The external supply voltage or drive current must not exceed the
rating.
- Do not connect any signal other than specified to the on-board
connector, or it may cause a fault.
- Plug the board into the specified expansion slot.
- When plugging or unplugging the power cable, be sure to hold
the plug itself.
- Since the I/O expansion unit is a precision device, do not store or
use it where it is either subject to shock or vibration. Also avoid
any place where the unit is exposed to direct sunlight, extremely
high humidity, or much dust.
- Do not use or store the unit where it is exposed to any chemical
directly or as vapor in the air.
- The unit has ventilating slits to prevent it from being heated
excessively. Avoid using the unit with the ventilating slits
blocked or in an ill-ventilated place.

Introduction
Restrictions
- Do not use the unit near equipment generating a strong magnetic
field or noise, or the field or noise may cause the unit or PC to
malfunction.
- It is very dangerous to use the unit with water, liquid, or metal
(conductive) chips left inside. Be careful not to let such foreign
matters in the unit.
The FA-PAC(PCI)F13 can only be used with certain personal
computers and boards. Be sure to verify operating capabilities
before using.
<Personal computer compatibility>
The FA-PAC(PCI)F13 provides bus expansion by means of PCI-toPCI Bridge. The recognition of PCI boards in the
FA-PAC(PCI)F13 depends on whether your personal computer
BIOS recognizes the PCI-to-PCI bridge. Please confirm PC
manufacturer or vendor whether BIOS can recognize PCI-to-PCI
bridge device.
<Boards that cannot be used>
The following boards cannot be used in the FA-PAC(PCI)F13
expansion slot.
(1) Graphic display boards (VGA boards)
(2) Boards designed to increase the number of units expanded with
a PCI bus.
(3) A board specifically listed in the PC manual as one that cannot
be used.
(4)A board might not operate depending on its specifications,
although it may well be in compliance with the PCI bus
specification.

Major Parts of Each Component
The PCI bus expansion slots support a total of four interrupt pin
signals (INTA, INTB, INTC, INTD).
The individual slots have different wiring for connection not to
overload each IRQ line.
See the table below for the relationships among the PCI slot
numbers, bus numbers, device numbers, and interrupt pins.

Starting up the System
The power supply of the FA-PAC(PCI)F13 is used in
synchronization with the power supply of the main unit of your PC.
Turning on the system
(1) Turn on the main power supply of the FA-PAC(PCI)F13
(connect the power plug to the wall outlet). You need not to
press the POWER switch (*1) on the front panel.
(2) Turn on the PC.
(3) The FA-PAC(PCI)F13 is turned on in synchronization with the
PC power supply.
(4) Make sure that the POWER LED on the FA-PAC(PCI)F13 is
on.
Turning off the system
(1) Turn off the PC.
(2) The FA-PAC(PCI)F13 enters the sleep mode in
synchronization with the PC power supply.
(3) To power off the FA-PAC(PCI)F13 completely, turn off the
main power supply (disconnect the power plug from the wall
outlet).
(*1) You can manually turn on or suspend (put to sleep) the power
supply of the FA-PAC(PCI)F13 by pressing the POWER
switch on the front panel. Use this method, for example, to
turn on only the power supply of the FA-PAC(PCI)F13.
Setup
Note!
Do not turn on or suspend the power supply of the FAPAC(PCI)F13 when the PC main unit is on, or the bus adapter
becomes unrecognized. When turning on or suspending the
FA-PAC(PCI)F13, restart the PC main unit as well.

Note!
The power supply, cooling fan, and fan filter in the FAPAC(PCI)F13 are consumables, requiring replacement after use for
a certain period of time. Although each of the parts should be
replaced after use for the following period of time in principle, the
life may be shortened depending on the operating environment.
Keep in mind that the lives of the parts may be extremely shortened
if they are used where it is either exposed to must dirt, metal chips
or particles, or dust or affected by oil or corrosive gas.

Troubleshooting
If the FA-PAC(PCI)F13 does not work correctly, check the
following items:
If the power supply won't be turned on
- Check whether the power cable has been connected correctly.
- Check whether both of the PC and FA-PAC(PCI)F13 have been
on.
- Check whether you are following the procedures in Chapter 3.
- If the power supply will not yet be turned on, check whether the
power supply can be turned on with no board mounted on the
FA-PAC(PCI)F13. If the power supply can be turned on, check
if the total current consumption by the boards exceeds the power
capacity of the FA-PAC(PCI)F13.
- Check whether the cables connected to CN6 and CN7 on the
PC-MB14(PCI) are the specified ones.
If the PCI board in the FA-PAC(PCI)F13 won't be
- Check whether the BUS-PC(PCI) and BUS-PAC(PCI) have been
installed correctly.
- Check whether the expansion bus cable has been connected
correctly.
- Check whether the FA-PAC(PCI)F13 was turned on in prior to the
PC.
- Consult the manufacturer of your PC to check whether the PCI
BIOS in the PC supports the PCI-to-PCI bridge.
