Roller Lifter Installation Instructions
Thank you for choosing COMP Cams® products! We know you have options in valve train component selection and we are proud to be your manufacturer of choice. Please read this instruction sheet carefully before beginning installation and also take a moment to review the included Limited Warranty information.
Pre-Installation:
It is important for all new roller lifters to be washed thoroughly with mineral spirits or parts washing solvent to remove all assembly grease. After the lifters are cleaned, it is recommended to soak them in common engine oil to ensure bearing saturation.
Installation:
If your new lifters utilize a link bar, inspect them for the word “UP”, or an arrow () indicating the direction of installation. These should face toward the center of the engine. It is also recommended to verify lifter bore to lifter clearance. Contact your engine builder or block manufacturer for your
specific clearances. After the lifters are installed, it is NOT recommended to let the engine sit for a
long period of time prior to start up, to help prevent the oil film from breaking down.
Care and Inspection: Remember, when using solid roller lifters, the only oiling the lifters receive is from windage created by the rotating assembly. Excessive idling or very low rpm usage may cause lack of oil supply to the lifters and cause premature wear to the axles, bearings or roller wheels. This can result in extensive engine damage.
Roller lifters should be inspected periodically for wear to the wheels and or bearings. If valve lash has to be corrected more often than normal, this could be an indication of accelerated lifter wear. Periodic checks are beneficial in determining if your roller lifters need to be rebuilt.
COMP Cams® offers a rebuild program for our solid roller lifters. This procedure includes magnafluxing and polishing the lifter bodies, replacing the axles, bearings, wheels and lock rings for a very nominal charge.
