OVERVIEW
Compaq TaskSmart C-Series servers provide the most advanced media streaming capabilities for bandwidth-efficient content delivery. They revitalize the potential of your existing Internet infrastructure for fast and efficient content delivery, by caching frequently requested information at the edge of the network. The TaskSmart C-Series servers are based on the most widely deployed caching software, Inktomi provide an essential technology for web-based training, employee/partner communication solutions and other applications that demand media-rich content delivered on a global basis. These pre-configured and pre-tested appliances servers allow immediate out-of-the-box installation, freeing up resources to attend more business-critical issues. The TaskSmart RapidLaunch program remotely activates the appliance server and launches intuitive configuration menus for rapid deployment.
’s Traffic Server Engine. These servers

KEY FEATURES (continued)
Easy to deploy and manage and remote management
TaskSmart Rapid Launch automatically discovers the C-Series appliance server on the network, and the intuitive user interface guides administrator through configuration of network settings for quick and easy deployment.
Industry leading systems management with Compaq Insight Manager. Compaq Insight Manager provides pre-failure warranty, which minimizes down time by detecting a failing part and alerting the administrator before the failure occurs
Web browser access to management and administration tasks enabling complete remote management. Fully integrated with Remote Insight Lights Out Edition to establish a virtual presence within data center or at remote locations
Management clustering for sharing configuration information
Flexible Network Deployment Options
Multiple transparent caching support options including Layer 4 switches, WCCP, WPAD, and policy-based routing
Adaptive Redirection Module (ARM) provides advanced transparent proxy deployment alternatives
Hierarchical deployment offers flexibility in designing network for optimum user experience and most efficient use of network resources.
Certain caches are designated as parent caches to other child caches so that child caches can redirect traffic to parent caches in the hierarchy
Can be deployed in forward or reverse proxy mode with support for transparent caching. Also includes support for caching hierarchies, to meet the exact needs of each network setup
HTTP parent failover support ensures reliable network operation even under node failure
Support for host and domain name expansion allows clients to use abbreviations for proxy-able content

Extensive Monitoring and Logging Features
Extensive system monitoring and management using Compaq Insight Manager that sends alerts to the administrator when pre-set thresholds are exceeded
Proxy does not interfere with the origin server's ability to track usage patterns of the client. The client logging information is also passed back to the origin server
Default logs include a summary log useful when an overview of cached content is needed, and a complete log that includes all information logged. Logging fields and formats are easily customizable by editing XML configuration files, to provide the exact information needed for billing or monito ring.
Predefined logging formats including Squid and Netscape Extended Formats 1 and 2 ensure compatibility with the most popular log analysis tools
Log splitting provides separate logs based on protocol or host name for more extensive billing integration
Granular Cache Control
By modifying configuration files, administrators can specify criteria that will determine if certain content is cacheable or proxy-able
Freshness checking – If the content has been changed on the origin server, the cache retrieves the new content, serves it and caches it, and
the expired content is ignored. This happens seamlessly to the connected client. Support for content freshness commands including ‘nevercache’, ‘pin-in-cache’, and ‘revalidate-after’
Content fingerprinting eliminates duplication of content in the cache and maximizes storage efficiency, regardless of URL
Caching directives are obeyed. (Example HTTP header information/commands like “no cache”, “no store”, “no-transform”, “public”, “private”)
Unmatched performance
Optimized Linux OS for higher performance
Pre-tested hardware and software configurations for high performance
DataFlow architecture supports simultaneous storing and streaming of data for faster throughput and non-blocking I/O
RAM caching accelerates response times for most popular content
Web-object optimized raw disk cache maximizes storage and retrieval efficiency
