DOUBLE INSULATION
Doubleinsulationis a conceptin safety, in electric
powertools,which eliminatesthe need for the usual
three wire groundedpower cord. All exposedmetal
partsare isolatedfrom internalmetal motor
componentswithprotectinginsulation.Double
insulatedtools do not need to be grounded.

B STORE IDLE TOOLS. When notin use tools
shouldbe storedin a dry and highor looked-up
place - out of the reach of children.
• DON'T FORCE TOOL. It will dothejob betterand
saferat the rate for whichitwas designed.
• USE RIGHT TOOL. Don'tforcesmalltoolor
attachmentto do thejob of a heavy dutytool. Don't
usetoolfor purposenot intended- for example - A
circularsaw shouldnever beused forcuttingtree
limbsor logs.
• WEAR PROPER APPAREL. Do notwear loose
clothingor jewelry that can get caught in tool's
moving partsand cause personalinjury.Rubber
glovesand nonskidfootwear are recommended
when working outdoors.Wear protectivehair
coveringto contain longhairand keep itfrombeing
drawn intonearbyair vents.
B ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. Everyday
eyeglasses have only impact-resistantlenses;they

• PROTECT YOUR HEARING. Wear hearing
protectionduring extended periodsof operation.
• DON'T ABUSE CORD. Never carry bycord or
yank itto disconnectfrom receptacle. Keep cord
from heat, oiland sharp edges.
• SECURE WORK. Use clamps ora vise to hold
work. It'ssafer than usingyour hand andit frees
bothhands to operate tool.
• DON'T OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and
balanceat all times. Do not useon a ladderor
unstablesupport.
• MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep toolssharp
at alltimes, and clean for best andsafest perfor-
mance. Follow instructionsfor lubricatingand
changingaccessories.
• DISCONNECT TOOLS. When not in use, before
servicing,or when changingattachments, blades,
bits,cutters, etc., all toolsshouldbe disconnected
from power supply.
• REMOVE CHUCK KEY. Formhabit of checkingto
see that chuckkey is removed from chuck before
turningtoolon.
• AVOID ACCIDENTAL STARTING. Don'tcarry
plugged-intools withfinger on switch.Be sure
switchis offwhen pluggingin.
• MAKE SURE YOUR EXTENSION CORD IS IN
GOOD CONDITION. When usingan extension
cord, be sureto use one heavy enoughto carry the
currentyour productwill draw. An undersizedcord
willcausea drop in line voltage resultingin lossof
powerand overheating. A wire gage size (A.W.G.)
of at least 16 is recommendedfor an extension
cord 100 feet or less in length.A cord exceeding
100 feet is not recommended. If indoubt, use the
nextheaviergage. The smaller the gage number,
the heavierthe cord.
OUTDOOR USE EXTENSION CORDS. When tool
isused outdoors,use onlyextensioncords suitable
for useoutdoors.Outdoor approved cords are
marked withthe suffixW-A, for example - SJTW-A
or SJOW-A.
• KEEP BITS CLEAN AND SHARP. Sharp bits
minimizestallingand kickback.
• KEEP HANDS AWAY FROM DRILLING AREA.
Keep hands away from bits. Do notreach
underneathworkwhile bit is rotating.Do not
attemptto remove materialwhile bit isrotating.
• INSPECT TOOL CORDS PERIODICALLY and if
damaged, have repaired at yournearest Sears
Repair Center. Stay constantlyaware ofcord
location.
B INSPECT EXTENSION CORDS PERIODICALLY
and replace ifdamaged.
• KEEP HANDLES DRY, CLEAN, AND FREE
FROM OIL AND GREASE. Alwaysuse a clean
clothwhen cleaning.Never use brake fluids,
gasoline, petroleum-based productsor anystrong
solventstoclean your tool.
• STAY ALERT. Watchwhat you are doingand use
common sense. Do notoperate tool when youare
tired. Do notrush.
CHECK DAMAGED PARTS. Beforefurtheruse of
the tool,a guard or other partthatis damaged
shouldbe carefullycheckedto determinethatit will
operate propedyand performitsintendedfunction.
Check for alignmentof movingpads, bindingof
moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting,and
any other conditionsthat mayaffect itsoperation.
A guard or other partthat is damaged shouldbe
properly repaired or replaced byan authorized
service center unlessindicatedelsewhereinthis
instructionmanual.
DO NOT USE TOOL IFSWITCH DOES NOT
TURN IT ON AND OFF. Have defectiveswitches
replaced by an authorizedservice center.
DRILLING INTO ELECTRICAL WIRING IN
WALLS CAN CAUSE DRILL BIT AND CHUCK
TO BECOME ELECTRICALLY LIVE. Do nottouch
the chuck or metal housingwhendrillingintoa
wall; grasp only the insulatedhandle(s)provided
on the tool.
• INSPECT FOR and removeall nailsfrom lumber
beforedrilling.
• DRUGS, ALCOHOL, MEDICATION. Do not
operatetool whileunder theinfluenceof drugs,
alcohol, or any medication.
• WHEN SERVICING USE ONLY IDENTICAL
REPLACEMENT PARTS.
• POLARIZED PLUGS. To reduce the riskof electric
shock,this toolhas a polarized plug (one blade is
widerthan the other). Thisplugwillfit in a
polarizedoutletonlyone way. Ifthe plug doesnot
fitfully inthe outlet, reversethe plug. if itstill does
notfit, contacta qualifiedelectricianto installthe
properoutlet. Donot changethe plugin any way.
• SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS. Reviewthem
frequentlyand use themto instructotherswho
may use this tool. If you loansomeonethis tool,
loan themthese instructionsalso.
