On consignment of the machine
When the machine is delivered to the customer, an
immediate check must be performed to ensure all
the material mentioned in the shipping documents
has been received, and also to check the machine
has not been damaged during transportation. If this
is the case, the carrier must ascertain the extent of
the damage at once, informing our customer service
office. It is only by prompt action of this type that the
missing material can be obtained, and any compensation
for damage successfully claimed.
Introductory comment
Even the best machines will only work well if used
correctly and kept in good working order. We
therefore suggest you read this instruction booklet
carefully and read it again whenever difficulties arise
while using the machine. If necessary, remember
that our assistance service (organised in collaboration
with our dealers) is always available for advice or direct
intervention.

GENERAL SAFETY REGULATIONS
The regulations below must be carefully followed in order to avoid harm to the operator and damage to the machine.
ρ Read the labels on the machine carefully. Do not cover t hem for any reason and replace them immediately if they
become damaged.
ρ The machine must be used exclusively by authorised, trained personnel.
ρ During the working of the machine, pay attention to other people and especially to children.
ρ The machine is not suitable for cleaning carpets.
ρ The socket for the battery charger cable must have a prescribed earth connection.
ρ Avoid damaging the battery charger cable by crushing or bending it, or applying stress.
ρ If you notice any damage to the battery charger cable, contact a COMAC technical assistance centre immediately.
ρ Do not place any liquid containers on the machine.
ρ The storage temperature must be between -25°C and +55°C; do not store outdoors in damp conditions.
ρ Conditions of use: room temperature between 0°C and 40°C with relative humidity between 30 and 95%.
ρ Do not use the machine in an explosive atmosphere.
ρ Do not use the machine as a means of transport.
ρ Avoid working with the brushes when the machine is standing still, so as not to damage the floor.
ρ Do not use the machine in inflammable areas, or wherever there is a risk of explosion.
ρ Do not use the device to collect dangerous or toxic powders.
ρ In the event of a fire, use a powder extinguisher. Do not use water.
ρ Do not knock against shelving or scaffolding, where there is a danger of falling objects.
ρ Do not use the machine on surfaces with an inclination greater than the one shown on the plate.
ρ If the machine does not work properly, check this is not caused by failure to carry out routine maintenance. Otherwise,
request the intervention of the COMAC technical assistance centre.
ρ If you need to replace any components, request the ORIGINAL spare parts from a COMAC dealer and/or Authorised Retailer.
ρ Before carrying out any maintenance work, switch off the machine and disconnect the battery connector.
ρ Do not remove any protection devices which require the use of tools in order to be removed.
ρ Do not wash the machine with direct water jets or with pressurised water, nor with corrosive substances.
ρ Have the machine checked by a COMAC technical assistance centre at the time intervals indicated in the maintenance schedule.
ρ Before using the machine, check that all the hatches and covers are positioned as shown in this Use and Maintenance Manual.
ρ When disposing of consumption materials, observe the laws and regulations in force.
ρ When your COMAC machine has reached the end of its long working life, dispose of the materials it contains
(especially oils and electronic components) in an appropri ate manner, and bearing in min d that the machine itself was
constructed using 100% recyclable materials.
ρ Only use the brushes supplied with the device, or those specified in the Use and Maintenance Manual (page 21). The
use of other brushes could compromise safety levels.
ρ The device must be disconnected from the power supply before removing the battery.
ρ The battery must be removed from the device before this is disposed of.
ρ The battery and battery charger must be disposed of in a safe manner, scrupulously respecting the laws in force.
ρ The machine is not suitab le for use by children or people with reduced physical, mental and sensorial capacities, or
people lacking experience and knowledge, unless supervised and instructed in the use of the machine by a person
responsible for their safety.
ρ Children must be supervised to ensure they do not play with the device.

MACHINE PREPARATION
1. HANDLING THE MACHINE
The machine is delivered packed, on a pallet. A forklift or other lifting means (hoist)
of a suitable capacity should be used for handling purposes.
If the machine is delivered without any packaging, it shou ld be handled with lifting
means of a suitable capacity (hoist, bridge crane), using the special lifting plates
supplied with it; fix them to the hooks on the machine itself.
The use of any other lifting system will invalidate the warranty in relation to any
damage that may result.
ATTENTION: only lift when the debris container is empty.
2. HOW TO UNPACK THE MACHINE
To remove the packaging, proceed as follows:
1. cut the straps
2. remove the metal points at the base of the packaging
3. remove the cardboard

3. EARTH CONNECTION
Use a hammer to remove the wooden wedges blocking the front wheels.
Use a hammer to remove the front crossbar of the pallet, to create a ramp.
Open the motor cover and bring the hydrostatic drive valve lever (1) to the vertical
(idle) position as otherwise the machine cannot be moved. (On the battery-operated
version the lever is in the lower part of the pump.)
Disengage the parking brake.
Close the cover and push the machine forwards so it slides down the ramp.
Bring the hydrostatic drive valve lever back to the horizontal (running) position
(clockwise or anticlockwise) so the machine can operate.

4. ASSEMBLING AND CONNECTING THE BATTERIES (battery-operated
ersion only)
For a good level of autonomy, you are advised to assemble 2 battery cases of the
type 18V 320Ah(CS80) / 18V 480Ah(CS90). Before assembling, check the batteries
are charged.
ssembly instructions:
1. remove the O/I key from the block
2. turn the handle (1) anticlockwise to release the rear cover (2)
3. fully open the rear cover of the machine (2) by means of the handle
4. you are advised to use some form of lifting means. Position the batteries in the
appropriate compartment, respecting the poles shown in the attached figure
5. connect the jumper cables and the positive/negative connections, as per the diagram
6. lower the rear cover (2) by means of the handle
7. Turn the handle (1) clockwise to block the rear cover (2)
For the connection, see the diagram on page 20.
5. CONNECTING THE BATTERY CHARGER
On the operator's lower left side there is the female connector (1), into which the male
connector fixed to the battery charger cables must be inserted. The male coupling
connector is consigned in the bag that also contains this instruction booklet. When
assembling it on the battery charger cables, pay attention to the polarity.
ATTENTION: this process must be carried out by qualified
personnel. The incorrect or imperfect connection of the cables to
the connector can seriously harm people and damage objects.

6. BATTERY CHARGE LEVEL INDICATOR
The battery indicator is located on the machine's instrument panel. Every bar
illuminated on the monitor indicates the battery charge level.
When the battery is run down and the monitor shows only one bar, you must
recharge it.
NB: if the buzzer intervenes as well, there is a risk of damage to the battery.
ATTENTION: For the daily recharging of the batteries, you must
fully respect the indications provided by the manufacturer or
retailer. All installation and maintenance operations must be
carried out by specialised personnel.
ATTENTION: danger of exhalation of gas and leakage of
corrosive liquids
ATTENTION: danger of fire: do not go near with naked flames.

7. RECHARGING THE BATTERIES
To avoid any permanent damage to the batteries, it is essential to avoid their total
run-down.
After connecting the machine batteries to the battery charger, recharge them
completely. The battery charger usually provides the necessary charge before
automatically switching off. You are advised to use a 36V – 60Ah(CS80) / 36V 70Ah(CS90) battery charger.
ATTENTION: for the characteristics of the battery compartment,
refer to the last page.
ATTENTION: never leave the batteries completely discharged,
even if the machine is not being us ed While rech arging, check th e
level of the electrolyte and, if necessary, top up with distilled water.
8. MACHINE PREPARATION, VERSIONS 80D – 90D
Fill the tank with light oil with a low sulphur content.
The maximum capacity is 18 litres (including a 3-litre reserve).
Check the level of oil in the hydraulic circuit (via the bulb indicator lights). The
difference between the two
extremes is about 1.5 litres. Check the motor oil level.
Check the position of the battery cut-out: bring it to the working (horizontal) position.
Observe the warnings giv en in the Use and Mainte nance book let of t he m otor for
start-up operations (motor start-up).

WORKING POSITION
The operator sits on the machine in order to drive it, using the manual commands on
the instrument panel to his side, along with the levers and pedals. T he position of
the seat can be adjusted using the lever underneath.
ATTENTION: the machine is fitted with a micro-switch under the
seat to indicate the presence of an operator on board; this switch
stops the machine moving if the operator is not correctly seated.
INSTRUMENT PANEL
The instrument panel can be found under the driving wheel; it houses the machine
switches. From the right, they are:
1. the start-up key
2. the safety button for lowering the hopper
3. the buzzer
4. the digital hour-counter
5. the headlight switch
6. the filter shaker switch
It also houses the machine indicator lights (version 80B-90B). From the left, they are:

Comac sweeping machines should only be used by trained, authoris ed operators,
and only when the machine itself is in perfect working order. Faulty sweeping
machines must be taken out of service immediately.
Before carrying out any type of work:
1. check the parking brake is disengaged
2. turn the key to position I (clockwise)
3. check the battery charge is sufficient for carrying out the planned work
ATTENTION: To avoid any permanent damage to the batteries,
it is essential to avoid their total run-down. When the run-down
buzzer sounds, the machine must be switched off (maintaining
just the forwards function so it can reach the recharge point).
4. Open the hatch of the debris hopper (green indicator light ON).
5. On the side instrument panel, activate the lever to lower the central brush,
and the lever for the side brush (only for cleaning near pavements, walls, etc.).
6. Activate the suction (left-hand lever).
7. Press the pedal command to move, and adjust the machine speed according
to the quantity of dust and dirt on the floor.
8. If you need to transfer the machine to another area, you are advised not to
use the brushes (raise them).
ATTENTION: the machine is fitted with a micro-switch under the
seat to indicate the presence of an operator on board; this switch
stops the machine moving if the operator is not correctly seated.

Move the accelerator lever until it is in the minimum position.
Start the motor by means of the start-up key, bringing it to the heating position (I).
Wait about 6 seconds, until the glowplug indicator light (11) switches off.
When the indicator light is OFF, turn the key to the start position.
When the motor switches on, release the key.
After an initial heating phase (see “after motor start-up“), bring the motor to a speed
of about 2000rpm, using the accelerator lever.
The machine is now ready to work.
Observe the warnings given in the Use and Maintenance booklet of the motor
for start-up operations (motor start-up).
MACHINE DIRECTION
The choice of direction when using the machine does not involve any switches or
levers, but is implemented via the pedal command: pressing the right-hand pedal the
machine moves forwards, while the left-hand pedal enables reverse movements.

SUCTION ACTIVATION
The machine works in normal conditions with the hatch open, as the dirt is picked up
by the brush and sucked into the debris hopper (left-hand lever - 1).
Pressure on the hatch lever will illuminate the green indicator light ("hopper open")
on the instrument panel, so the dirt can be collected.
Turning the lever (1) anticlockwise, the air flow in the hopper is interrupted.
Press the filter shaker switch on the instrument panel to activate the filter shaker
motor and free the dirt captured by the filter itself.
To maintain effective suction via the filter shaker, clean the filter every 2030 minutes and always before emptying the debris hopper.
NB: do not activate the filter shaker when the suction is enabled.
ATTENTION: avoid prolonged operation of the filter shaker motor.
Turn off the suction by means of the lever ( 1) when you are ab out
to work on wet or damp surfaces, to avoid ruining the filter.
USING THE SERVICE OR PARKING BRAKE
Use the service brake whenever you want to slow down or stop the machine
movement.
Pull the parking brake when you want to park or stop on a sloping surface.

EMPTYING THE DEBRIS HOPPER
When the machine begins to leave behind clear traces of d irt, this means the ho pper
is full and needs emptying.
ATTENTION: before emptying the debris hopper, close the
hatch by means of the lever on the side instrument panel, and
check there is nobody within the machine's working radius.
To raise the debris hopper, proceed as follows:
1. close the hatch by pushing the lever (1) upwards
2. push up the lever that raises the debris hopper (2) until the required height is reached
3. move next to a debris hopper
4. push the hatch lever (1) down, so the hatch opens to empty the hopper
ATTENTION: when the debris hopper is raised, move the
machine very slowly - maximum speed 1km/h.
Only empty the hopper when the machine is on an even su rface .
Do not activate the filter shaker when the hopper is raised.
After emptying, pull the hatch lever down to close the hatch.
For safety reasons, the hopper lowering operation is only possible if the green
button (1) on the front instrument panel is pressed (with the right hand) at the same
time as the hopper lowering lever (2) is pushed down.
After bringing the hopper back to the working position, open the hatch again by
pushing the lever (3) upwards.
AT THE END OF THE WORK
1. Activate the filter shaker.
2. Empty the debris hopper.
3. Stop the machine.
4. Engage the parking brake.
5. Switch off the machine, brining the key to the OFF position.

MAINTENANCE
WARNINGS
The regular, periodic maintenance of the sweeping machine ensures better
performance levels and a longer working life.
ATTENTION: all adjustment and/or maintenance interventions
should be carried out with the machine switched off.
ATTENTION: disconnect the battery before carrying out any
cleaning or maintenance work on the machine.
CLEANING THE FILTER
After every 100 hours' operation, the filter should be carefully cleaned as follows:
1. switch off the machine
2. open the front cover by releasing the closing hook
3. release the side hooks to lift the protective panel and access the filter
4. disconnect the cable connector of the filter shaker motor, then take out the filter
5. carefully clean the filter, using a vacuum cleaner. Otherwise, shake the filter
manually (do not use liquids)
6. reassemble everything, carrying out the above-mentioned operations in the reverse
order. Pay special attention to the seal, replacing it immediately if it is damaged.
ATTENTION: these operations must be carried out using gloves
to protect your hands from contac t with dangerous elements.
ADJUSTING THE SIDE BRUSH
Brush pressure can be adjusted via the screw behind the arm of the side brush:
1. loosen the locknut
2. turn the adjustment screw (1) anticlockwise until the front half of the brush is
pressed down
REPLACING THE SIDE BRUSH
1. Stop the side brush by means of the appropriate lever on the side instrument panel.
2. Switch off the machine, brining the key to the O position.
3. Loosen the four screws that fix the brush in place. Remove the brush, taking
care not to lose the washers.
4. Insert the new brush then reassemble the washers and screws.

MAINTENANCE
ADJUSTING THE PRESSURE OF THE CENTRAL BRUSH
To adjust the pressure of the central brush, you must open the right-hand hatch and
turn the knob (1).
With the machine still but the brush functioning, periodically check the brush leaves
a trace of 6-8cm on the floor.

REPLACING THE CENTRAL BRUSH
1. Switch off the motor, activating the lever to raise the brushes.
2. Switch off the machine, bringing the key to the O position.
3. Open the side hatch.
4. Release the connection (1) shown in the figure, and take out the brush support (2).
5. Remove the worn brush and insert the new one, checking it is facing in the
correct direction.
ATTENTION: the brushes have pointed bristles, so check they
are facing in the right direction.
REPLACING THE HATCH FLAP RUBBER
1. Loosen the fixing bolts (1) and remove the rubber-pressing blade (2).
2. Take out the worn rubber (3) and replace it with a new one.
3. Reassemble the blade and fixing screws.
MAINTENANCE OF THE HYDRAULIC DRIVE
Top up the hydrostatic drive tank (beneath the rear cover) with AGIP ARNICA 46
hydraulic oil (or equivalent) when the level falls below the minimum visible on the
transparent cap (MIN) on the wall beneath the operator's seat (the oil level must be
between the MIN and MAX).
The oil level should be checked when the machine is switched off and cold,
positioned on an even surface, and with the hopper lowered.
NB: when the red indicator light for the “hydraulic oil level” ( on the instrument pan el)
comes on, top the level up immediately (risk of damage to the components of the
hydraulic circuit).
ATTENTION: for all other maintenance work, you are advised
to contact our technical assistance centre (organised in
collaboration with our dealers), as these interventions require
specific technical skills and the use of the right equipment.

TROUBLESHOOTING
THE CENTRAL BRUSH DOES NOT CLEAN WELL
1. Check whether the central brush is worn. If necessary, have it replaced at the
COMAC SPA technical assistance centre.
2. Check whether the debris hopper is full. If necessary, empty it.
3. Check the brush turns. If necessary, contact the COMAC SPA technical
assistance centre.
4. Check the brush pressure (see the paragraph on page 16).
THE MACHINE RAISES DUST WHILE CLEANING
1. Check whether the debris hopper hatch is open. If necessary, activate the lever
on the side instrument panel.
2. Check the state of wear and tear of the flap rubber. If necessary, replace it.
3. Check whether the filter is clogged. If necessary, clean it thoroughly or replace it.
4. Check the central brush is correctly assembled.
EXCESSIVE OR IRREGULAR NOISE FROM THE CENTRAL BRUSH
If wires (or other items) collect around the brush, remove them.
REPLACING THE OIL FILTER
Change the oil filter roughly every 750 hours, or when the indicator light on the
instrument panel comes on. Proceed as follows:
1. wrap insulating tape around the cap of the oil tank, to shut off the vent
. switch off the machine, bringing the key to the O position
3. open the hatch on the left of the machine
. loosen the filter and replace it
5. close the hatch
ATTENTION: dispose of the filters and used oil in the correct manner.

CHOOSING AND USING THE BRUSHES
POLYPROPYLENE BRUSH (PPL)
Used on all types of floors. Good resistance to wear and tear, and hot water (no greater t han 60°C). T he Polyprop ylene brush is
non-hygroscopic and therefore retains its characteristics even when working in wet conditions.
THICKNESS OF THE BRISTLES
The thicker bristles are more rigid and should therefore be used on surfaces with solid or heavy dirt (e.g. gravel, drinks cans, etc.).
Softer bristles are recommended for surfaces with light dirt or dust.
Remember that when the bristles are worn, and therefore too short, they become rigid and cannot pick up the dirt efficiently.
