4. PROCESSOR FUNKTIONS:
11
4.1PROCESSOR FUNCTIONS
PROGRAMMING:Automatic processing parameters, e.g., temperature, speed and
replenishment rates, can be stored in 9 different programmes.
WARMING-UP:Once programmed, temperature settings are accurately controlled.
Heating commences with switching on at the mains. Constant solution
temperatures are maintained in the processing tanks. Temperatures
tolerances +/- 0,2 °C are achieved by the microprocessor control unit
while the solutions are circulated by circulation pumps. When
temperature has reached PRE-SET levels, the processor enters
STANDBY mode and is ready for use.
WORK MODE:Is when all process parameters are reached (as programmed
before). In this condition the machine confirms READY
SLEEP MODE: Sleep mode is an automatic feature for monitoring and keeping the
chemistry in good order. It is activated during night and weekend
times when the machine is inactive i.e. periods when the machine will
not be used for production and when standby replenishment is disabled.
ANTI CRYSTALLI-During STANDBY mode - within a programmable cycle periode - transport
ZATION CYCLEis activated - this prevent cristallization build up on crossover rollers.
ANTI-OXIDATIONDuring STANDBY mode - and no material is processed during set time CYCLEan preprogrammable ANTI OXIDATION cycle (replenishment cycle)
is available.
The additional replenishment compensates the impact of airoxidation of
the chemistry during standby mode und tops up the chemistry
levels in the tanks, compensating evaporation of the water in the
solutions during standby.
AUTO The processor comes equipped with a media area measuring facility.
REPLENISHMENT:Infrared sensors scan the material area touchless and when
the preprogrammed amount of material (area) entered the processor,
a replenish-cycle is activated.
AUTOMATICInfrared sensors also automatically control the startcycle of the
START-STOP:prosessor. The processor changes from STANDBY to RUN once material
has interrupted the light barrier. As the rollers turn, water is supplied to
the wash tank and to the intermediate rinse bath system. Once the last
film has passed through, the processor reverts to STANDBY. The film
can be taken out of the receiving basket or top cover lid.
4.2SAFETY DEVICES
*)Thermostatically controlled solution heater with overheating CUT-OUT and AUTO-RESET.
*)Thermostatically controlled dryer heater with overheating CUT-OUT and MANUAL-RESET.
*)All electric motors are equipped with thermal CUT-OUT and AUTO-RESET.
*)Each electrical component is protected by a fuse on the power distribution board (PDB).

5. INFEED - SENSOR BAR
12
An infra red sensor bar assembly is located at the entrance to the processor. As soon as
media passes across the sensor bar a process cycle is initiated which in turn starts the
transport motor and triggers timing circuits for the control of ”timed” processing sequences –
wash off, standby, dryer on. Timed sequences are set to operate to pre-programmed
automatic requirements and are also used for providing a visual reference on the material
location as it passes through the processor.
Infeed-Sensor Bar
Important: Special care must be taken to ensure that the processor entrance rollers are
always clean and dry – any spillage of chemical or water onto the feed tray / feed rollers
or sensor bar must be avoided. Any spillage must be cleaned immediately.

6. CHEMICAL REPLENISHMENT SYSTEM
When operating a processor which uses chemicals for the continuous production of paper it is
very important that the chemicals within the machine are keep in good working order so as to
provide consistent processing quality. To achieve this consistency we use replenishment
solutions, which are formulated by the chemical manufacturer and injected into the processor
precisely for the area of material being produced. Replenishment of the chemical tanks is done
automatically using infra red sensors located at the entrance to the processor. These sensors
accurately monitor the width of material entering the processor, this information is then used by
the microprocessor (CPU) control software to calculate the surface area for each sheet loaded
into the processor. Each sensor, when covered, will generate a pulse, which is then recorded on
a decoder and counted – the more sensors that are covered then the faster the count. When the
count reaches the programmed value of pulse counts it triggers the start of a replenishment
cycle. During each replenishment cycle the replenishment pumps inject fresh solution from
small storage bottles/tank and into the corresponding ”working” tank solutions for a pre-set time.

6.1DRAIN CONNECTION
It is not necessary to connect the processor to an external drain facility – the processor is
supplied with 3 x 10 litre container which are used to collect the waste Developer, Bleachfix and
Superstabi solutions. The containers are fitted with a high-level alarm device, when full they have
to be emptied.

The waste tanks are filled in two ways:
• manually, by opening the overflow
pipes in the tanks (to drain the tank)

• automatically, through the overflow
pipes in the tanks.
Full waste tanks have to be collected
by an authorised waste treatment
company.
The above mentioned level sensor is used to control the level inside the waste container.
In case one of the sensors is recognizing high level, the processor will bring the message
"WasteX high level".This indication informs the operator that the waste container must
be emptied or replaced with a fresh empty tank.
6.2WATER DRAIN (OPTIONAL)
As mentioned before, in case the processor is supplied with as a non-washless
version, the corresponding drain-tube has to be connected.
Page 19
AN 06/2003

7. HEATING / COOLING / CIRCULATION
15
The working temperature of all solutions is accurately monitored and electronically
controlled to the precise pre-programmed specifications. Each solution is heated by a
dedicated heat exchange ”flow heater” unit located in the circulation lines, which provides
an efficient heating system with low maintenance requirements.
To drain the tanks, remove the side panel,
open the stop cock of the corresponding
tank.
Page 21
AN 06/2003

7.2 TEMPERATURE CONTROL
17
Probes positioned under solution levels precisely monitor all solution tank temperatures.
These temperature probes are continuously supplying information to the microprocessor
on actual solution temperatures within the tanks. The microprocessor then compares these
actual temperatures to the required programmed ”set” temperatures and controls the relevant heaters/cooling systems accordingly.

8. TEST RUN AND TANK FILL ( RECOMMENDED)
18
IMPORTANT: Although all processors are thoroughly water tested before delivery, we would
always recommend to check all hose and tank connections in case a fitting becomes loose or is
broken during transportation. In the case of transport damage - this should be recorded on film
and reported to the shipping company. To check, it is recommended to fill the processor firstly
with water.
-Remove all packing materials / transport fixings
-Insert the dryer (see page 6)
-At the moment, put transport racks aside.
-Check that all drain valves are closed (see page 12)
-Now fill all the tanks with water until the red marks inside the tanks are reached.
-Insert the transport racks slowly and carefully. Aviod any splashes. (see page 5)
-Fix the racks as pointed out on page 5
-Switch on the processor
-Now all pumps/heating elements will start to work. Check now very carefully all connections
and fittings. Run the unit approx. 10 min. Also during that, check the display and the
progressing temperature rise.
-See page 23 how to start the processor transport by hand - check the rotation of the
racks and the dryer.
-Fill the replenishment tanks with water as well - see page 22 how to start a replenishment
cycle by hand. Start Repl1 and Repl2 - see page page 10. All replenishment pumps have to
run now.
When the processor is turned on (Electrical power applied) the microprocessor will first look at the
position of all level switches to be sure all solutions are at the required level. If OK the pump and
heating systems are energized. After approx. 25 minutes the solutions will be at their pre-set required
temperatures and the processor will confirm P1 READY – the processor is now ready for operation.
If the level in any tank is low then the display will inform – TANK X Low Level and the related pump
and heating system are disabled for safety.
9. WORKING WITH THE CHEMISTRY
Firstly we recommend to contact your local chemistry representative office
on all matters relating to chemical mixing handling using.
-Switch off the processor.
-Drain all tanks of the processor (page 12)
-Take out the racks of the processor
-Take care that all tanks are dry and clean, close all valves again.
-Use the replenishment container (30L) for mixing the chemistry or other recommended
mixing systems
-Fill the tanks with chemistry until the red marks inside the tanks are reached. The remaining
liquid in the containers can be used for replenishment.
-Switch on the processor - follow the instructions on page 16,17,18
Page 23

12.MAINTENANCE
32
The processor is designed to produce consistent high quality production with the minimum
of maintenance.
Regular maintenance minimizes the chances for equipment failure and loss of
processing quality. A well trained person has to be responsible for performing the maintenance
of the processor and must be familiar with the operation and function of it as well.
1. Daily maintenance
*)Check levels of the external replenishmener tanks -
If necessary mix fresh solution.
*)Cleaning feed tray.
*)Cleaning spray-bar-guide for the fixer
*)Before starting production we advise to feed some cleaning films to remove any
overnight residue.
2. Weekly maintenance
*)Wipe external surfaces of film processor / enclosures / panels
with a wet cloth to remove any chemical / dirt deposits.
*)Inspect and clean the wash tank and intermediate water rins drains. If algaes present
then the should be removed, in such a case we suggest to use a proven algae control
system -
*)Have a look to the above shown drainpipes / overflow tubes - remove any deposites
to prevent a blockad of the drain.
Page 37

13.RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE EVERY 3-6
33
MONTHS.
(Period is subject to processor useage.)
Good processing quality and the reliable operation of a processor is dependent upon regular and
careful cleaning. Every 3-6 months, the chemicals in the tanks should be drained.
A chemical cleaning of the processing tanks and wash tank is recommended. Always follow
safety warnings as described in section 1 when cleaning the processor.
Prior to carrying out any maintenance, switch off the power at the main power switch
(position "0") ensuring it cannot beaccidently switched back on.
*)Switch off the main power switch of the processor first (position „0“).
*)Remove the top cover of the processor.
*)Drain individual tanks by open the draintaps in front of the processor.
*)Remove rack assemblies ( DEV / BX / SST, see item 2.1) and put them aside.
*)Close taps and fill all tanks with water or better with suitable cleaning solution
until the red mark inside the tanks are reached.
*)Put the racks back into the tanks of the processor and close the top cover.
*)Switch on the processor and start some replenishment cycles. The hoses will be
cleaned with water as well. Also start the transport of the filmprocessor, the racks have to
be in. Let the processor run for 10 to 15 minutes.
*)Switch off („0“ position)the main power switch of the filmprocessor and drain the
processor tanks again.
*)NOTE: Use cleaning solution according to the manufacturer´s instructions.
*)After tank cleaning, the developer- and wash-tank should be filled twice with fresh water
(eventually use neutralizer recommended by manutacturer). Let the processor run for
approximately 10 minutes again. Check all external (outside of the processor)
hose connectors (outside of filmprocessor) and fittings for leaks.
*)Drain all tanks.
*)Remove the water / DEV / BX / SST Racks and check for:
-worn gears
-damaged or worn bearings
-loose screws
-scratched or bent film guides
-plastic flat springs in developer bottom underturn.
*)All repairs must be carried out by qualified service personnel.
*)Check the inside of the tank for contamination and alien substances.
*)Clean the rollers well.
*)Close the drain taps of all 3 tanks.
*)Fill developer, bleachfix and SST tanks with fresh chemicals to the required level (1st SST,
2nd bleachfix and 3rd developer)
*)Re-install the racks carefully. Take care of correct sequence of the racks is followed and
make sure the gears are in the right position. Secure the racks.
*)Insert the respective suction pipe to the correct external replenisher tank.
Re-install the top cover and switch on the processor.
*)Process test strips.
