Follow all safety instructions provided by the battery manufacturer when handling 12V batteries. Always wear safety glasses. Keep sparks, flames and cigarettes away from batteries at all times.
Under strong sunlight, the frames of your solar panel may get hot. If placed on a dashboard or any potentially delicate surface, always elevate the frame to allow air to circulate or place the panel on a material that will inhibit heat transfer.
Installation:
Securely place the solar panel in the sun. Utilize the included mounting hardware to attach the panel to the chosen surface (an illustration of this procedure can be found with the brackets). When connecting to a charge controller with stripped wire, utilize the included charge controller wire adapter. If your charge controller has trailer ‘quick connect’ plugs you can forgo the use of this adapter.
All solar panels 15 watts or above require a charge controller to prevent overcharging your 12 volt battery. If you have not purchased the 18 Watt Solar 12 Volt Battery Charger Kit, we recommend using a Coleman Solar Charge Contr o ller available through your preferred Co leman solar retailer
Using the battery ‘alligator’ clamps:
First, connect the battery clamp attachment to your solar panel. Only then can you proceed to connect to your battery. Ensure the battery clamps are secure, matching the red clamp which is Positive (+) to the Positive (+) terminal on your battery. Connect the black clamp which is Negative (-) to the Negative (-) terminal on your battery.
Use of this connector should be done for very limited amounts of time when a battery is very low (under
12 volts) due to lack of protection from a charge controller. WARNING: Battery clamps must be placed on the battery in the aforementioned order. Wrong connections may
cause sparking or explosion. Note: This solar panel has a built-in blocking diode to prevent discharge. Maintenance Instructions : Cleaning of the glass may be performed by the user, utilizing a clean damp cloth. Any
other maintenance to the unit should be performed by a qualified service professional or contact our experienced customer service team.
