9305 Card Software Versions and this Manual

When applicable, Cobalt Digital Inc. provides for continual product enhancements through software updates. As such, functions described in this manual may pertain specifically to cards loaded with a particular software build.
The Software Version of your card can be ch eck ed by vi ewi ng the Card Inf o menu in DashBoard. See Checking 9305 Card Information (p. 3-7) in Chapter 3, Operating Instructio ns for more infor mation. You can then check our website for the lates t software version currently released for the card as described below.
Check our website and proceed as follows if your card’s software does not match the latest versi on:
Card Software earlier than latest version
Card Software newer than version in manual
Card is not loaded with the latest software. Not all functions and/or specified performance described in this manual may be available.
You can update your card with new Update software by going to the Support>Firmware Downloads link at www.cobaltdigital.com. Download Firmware Update Guide, which provides simple instructions for downloading the latest firmware for your card onto your computer, and then uploading it to your card through DashBoard™.
Software updates are field-installed without any need to remove the card from its frame.
A new manual is expediently released whenever a cards software is updated and specifications and/or functionality have changed as compared to an earlier version (a new manual is not necessarily released if specifications and/or functionality have not changed). A manual earlier than a cards software version may not completely or accurately describe all functions available for your card.
If your card shows features not described in this manual, you can check for the latest manual (if applicable) and download it by going to the
Support>Documents>Product Information and Manuals link at www.cobaltdigital.com.

This device is intended for environmentally controlled use only in appropriate video terminal equipment operating environments.
This product is intended to be a component product of an openGear® frame. Refer to the openGear frame Owner's Manual for important safety instructions regarding the proper installation and safe operation of the frame as well as its component products.
Heat and power distribution requirements within a frame may dictate specific slot placement of cards. Cards with many heat-producing components should be arranged to avoid areas of excess heat build-up, particularly in frames using only convection cooling. The 9305 has a moderate power dissip ation (7 W max.). As such, avoiding placing the card adjacent to other cards with similar dissipation values if possible.

If required, make certain Rear I/O Module(s) is installed before installing the 9305 into the frame slot. Damage to card and/or Rear I/O Module can occur if module installation is attempted with card already installed in slot.
If card resists fully engaging in r ear I/O module mating connector, check for alignment and proper insertion in slot tracks. Damage to card and/or rear I/O module may occur if improper card insertion is attempted.
Introduction 9305 Functional Description

9305 Functional Description

Figure 1-1 shows a functional block diagram of the 9305. The 9305 HD/SD-SDI Embedded Audio Delay provides independent delay settings from 2.00 msec to 10500.00 msec (10.5 seconds) for up to 16 embedded audio channels. The output timing can be locked to that in the input video, or an external black burst/tri-level video reference signal.
In addition to the delay function, the 9305 also provides audio routing that acts as a full audio cross point. Each of the 16 embedded audio output channels can rece ive si gna l f rom any one of the 16 emb edde d i nput channels, four internal tone generators, or several mixer outputs. Unused output channels can be mappe d to a “Silence source. Each output al so provi des gain adjustment and selectable polarity inversion.
9305 Input/Outputs
The 9305 provides the following video inputs and outputs:
Inputs:
HD/SD SDI IN – dual-rate HD/SD-SDI input
Audio Delay and Timing Function
Delay controls for each embedded channel provide independently adjustable delay ranging from 2.00 msec to 10500.00 msec (10.5 seconds). Audio data blocks are sequentiall y held in ind ependen t buf fer s and rele ase d per the delay setting at the intervals dictated by the delay setting and the user-selected timing reference source.
The 9305 allows selection from the following reference timing sources:
Outputs:
SDI OUT – four dual-rate HD/SD-SDI post-processed buffered
video outputs
RCK OUT – four reclocked HD/SD-SDI pre-processed buffered
input copies
Input Video Timing is derived from the input video.
Reference 1 an d Reference 2 External References – Timing is
derived from an external reference signals distributed with the card frame (
EXT REF IN (1,2) in Figure 1-1), thereby allowing the audio to
be synchronized to a black burst or tri-level video reference. Where compatible, using an external timing reference can allow fo r quicker lock acquisition.

Introduction 9305 Functional Description
Audio Routing Description
The audio processor operates as an internal audio router. The router function chooses from the following inputs:
16 channels of embedded audio input
Four independent internal tone generators (described below)
Digital silence (mute) setting
Internal Down Mix and Mono Mixer outputs (described below)
The router function in tur n provides 16 chan nels of embedded aud io output on the SDI post-processed outputs.
The router acts as an audio cross point. Each of the 16 embedded output channels can receive signal from any one of 16 embedded audio input channels, four internal tone generators, or several mixer outputs. Unused output channels can be mapped to a “Silence” source. Each output also provides gain adjustment and sel ectable polarit y inversion. Output aud io rates are always 48 kHz locked to the selected reference.
As set with the default set tings, th e routing bet ween embedded i nput channel s and output channels is bas ic 1-t o-1 (embe dded inpu t cha nnel 1 in put is r outed to embedded output channel 1, and so on). Other sources (described below) for each channel are se le ct ed using the card edge control s or a remote control system.
Audio Down Mix and Mono Mix Function
(See Figure 1-2.) The Audio Down Mixer function provides for the selection of any five embedded audio sourc es serving as Left ( Left Surround ( multiplexed into stereo pair Down Mix Left ( (

Tone Generator Function
The 9305 contains four built-in tone generators (Tone Generator 1 thru Tone Generator 4). Each of the four tone generators can be set to a different frequency, and are available as audio sources for each embedded channel audio output. 18 discre te sine wave fre quencies are avai lable, ra nging from 50 Hz to 16 kHz (default frequency is 1.0 kHz).

Introduction 9305 Functional Description
If a signal l eve l below a selected thr eshold on all four of the selected
channels designate d as that these channels are not carrying 5.1. In this case, the upmixer overwrites all six selected channels with the new 5.1 content.
If a signal level above a select ed threshold on any of the four s elected
channels designate d as channel(s) are already carrying viable 5.1 content. In this case, upmixing is bypassed, allowing the original channels to pass unaffected.
The examples in Figure 1-4 show the automatic enable/disable up-mixing function applied to example selected channels shown and described, the processing is contingent upon the signal levels of the channels selected to carry the ne w 5.1 upmix relative to the selected threshold (in this example, -60 dBFS). Note also that this function is applied after the Audio Delay and Audio Routing/Gain Control functions.
