VehicleswithHeadlights
Theheadlightswitch(3)islocatedontheinstrumentpaneltotherightofthesteeringcolumn(Figure8orFigure
7).Pressthesideoftheswitchwiththeheadlightsymboltoturntheheadlightsonandpresstheothersidetoturn
theheadlightsoff.
NOTE:Gasolinevehicles:Usingtheheadlightsforextendedperiodsoftimewithouttheenginerunning,orwiththe
engineidling,willdischargethebattery.
BATTERYWARNINGLIGHT
Electricvehiclesfeatureadashmountedwarninglight(4)(abovesteeringcolumn)that,whenthevehicleisin
operation,indicateslowbatteryvoltageor,whenthevehicleisbeingcharged,indicatesachargingproblem(Figure7).
Thebatterywarninglightiscontrolledbytheonboardcomputer.
Whenthevehicleisinoperation,thewarninglightwillilluminateandremainilluminatedif:
•Batteries’voltagedropsbelow48voltswhenthereisnoloadonthebatteries(thevehicleisstoppedandthere
arenoaccessorieson).
•Batterieshavedischargedtolessthan25%ofratedcapacity.
Ifthewarninglightcomesonwhenthevehicleisoperating,therewillbeenoughpowerremainingtodrivethevehicle
forapproximately30minutes.However,thevehicleshouldbechargedattherstopportunity.Ifthewarninglight
comesonandthevehicleisunabletooperatefor30minutes,haveyourClubCardistributor/dealercheckthevehicle
forapossiblebatteryorelectricalsystemproblem.
Whenthebatteriesreceiveanincompletechargebecause1)theDCpowercordisdisconnected,2)ACpowertothe
chargerisinterrupted,3)automaticchargershut-offoccursafter16hoursofoperation,4)thechargermalfunctions,
or5)thewrongchargerisused,thewarninglightwillindicateasfollows:

•Thewarninglightwillnotcomeonifthechargeis90%ormorecomplete.Theonboardcomputerwillretainin
memorytheamountofchargeneededtofullyreplenishthebatteriesandwillcompletethechargeduringthe
nextchargecycle.
•Whenthechargerisunplugged,thewarninglightwillilluminateandremainilluminatedfor10secondsifthecharge
islessthan90%completebutthevehiclehasenoughpowerforapproximately30minutesofoperation.Thiswill
alerttheoperatorthatthevehiclemaybeused,butthatitmustbechargedtocompletionassoonaspossible.
•Thewarninglightwillrepeatedlyilluminatefor10seconds,with4secondintervalsifthechargertimesoutat16
hoursandthebatteriesarenotsufcientlycharged.Thisindicatesanabnormalchargecycle.Thechargerand
batteriesshouldbecheckedbyyourClubCardistributor/dealer.
•Thewarninglightwillrepeatedlyilluminatefor10seconds,with4secondintervalsduringachargecycle(DCplugis
stillconnected)ifACpowertothechargerisinterrupted.ThelightwillgooutwhenACpowerisrestored.
LEDLight:Inadditiontothewarninglight,thereisaninfraredLEDinthedashlightassembly,whichtransmitsan
infraredsignalfromtheonboardcomputer(OBC).ThissignalisreceivedbytheoptionalCommunicationDisplay
Module,whichprovidesinformationontheconditionofthevehicleandbatteries.
BATTERYCONDITIONINDICATOR(OPTIONAL)
ElectricVehiclesOnly
Thebatteryconditionindicatorfeaturesa10-barLEDdisplaythat,whenthevehicleisinoperation,displaysthelevelof
batterycapacity,measuringbatteryvoltageoveraperiodoftime.
Whenbatteriesarefullycharged,allindicatorlightswillbeon.Whenbatteryvoltagedropsbelow75%offulldischarge,
thelasttwoindicatorlightswillashalternately.Continueduseofvehicleafterindicatorlightsbeginashingwithout
rechargingcouldresultindecreasedvehicleperformance.
NOTE:Ifthebatteryconditionindicatormovesrapidly(approximately45minutes)fromfullchargetoempty,there
maybeaproblemwiththewiringorwithabatterycell.Ifindicatordisplaydoesnotresetbacktofullafter
recharging,theremaybeaproblemwiththebatterychargerorwithoneofthebatteries.Ineithercasethe
vehicleshouldbecheckedbyaClubCardealeroratrainedtechnician.
LOWOILWARNINGLIGHT
GasolineVehiclesOnly
Thegasolinevehicleisequippedwithalowoilwarninglight(4),locatedonthedashpaneljustabovethesteering
column(Figure8).Ifthewarninglightcomeson,oilshouldbecheckedandaddedtotheengineasnecessarybefore
continuingtousethevehicle.SeefollowingCAUTION.Thevehicleshouldneverbedrivenwhenthelowoilwarning
lightremainson.Ifthewarninglightgoesonandoff,thevehiclemaybedriven,butoilshouldbeaddedattherst
opportunity.Thelightwillashrepeatedlytoindicateapossibleproblemwiththeelectronicfuelinjection(EFI)system.
Iftheoilleveliscorrectandthewarninglightstayson,haveatrainedtechniciancheckthevehicle.
CAUTION
•Failuretoaddoilimmediatelywhenthelowoilwarninglightstaysoncanresultinpermanent
enginedamage.
FUELGAUGE/HOURMETER
GasolineVehiclesOnly
Thevehicleisequippedwithafuelgauge/hourmeter(5),locatedontheinstrumentpanel(Figure8).Thefuelgauge
allowstheoperatortomonitorthefuellevelinthevehicle.Thehourmetershouldbeusedbyatrainedtechnician
totrackvehicleusageandtohelpdeterminewhenperiodicserviceisrequired.SeePeriodicServiceSchedules

ACCELERATORPEDAL
Theacceleratorpedalisthepedalontheright,withthewordGOmoldedintoit(Figure9).
•Electricvehicles:WhenthekeyswitchisintheONposition,andtheForward/Reversehandleorswitchisineither
theFORWARDorREVERSEposition,pressingtheacceleratorpedalwillautomaticallyreleasetheparkbrake
andstartthevehiclemovinginthedirectionselected(forwardorreverse).Whentheacceleratorisreleased,
powerwillbecutoffandthemotorwillstoprunning.
•Key-startvehicles:TheenginemustrstberunningbeforeshiftingtheForward/Reversehandleandpressingthe
acceleratorpedal.Pressingtheacceleratorpedalwillautomaticallyreleasetheparkbrakeandstartthevehicle
movinginthedirectionselected(forwardorreverse).Whentheacceleratorisreleased,theenginewillidle.

•Movingparts!Keepclearoftheenginecompartmentwhiletheengineisrunning.
CAUTION
•Key-startvehicles:Donot“rev”theengineforlongperiodsoftimewhiletheForward/Reversehandle
isintheNEUTRALposition.Failuretoheedthiscautioncanresultindamagetothetransaxle.
•Key-startvehicles:DonotshifttheForward/Reversehandlewhiletheacceleratorpedalispressed.
Shiftthehandleonlywhenthevehicleisatacompletestopandtheengineisatidle.Failuretoheed
thiscautioncanresultindamagetothetransaxle.
ElectricVehicles
Electricvehiclesuseaspecialelectricalsystem,whichemploysmotorbrakinginsomemodesofoperation.In
thosemodes,thevehicleoperatesasfollows:
•Walk-AwayBraking:Thispreventsthevehiclefromrollingawayuncontrolledshouldthedriverparkonaslope
andleavethevehiclewithoutlockingtheparkbrake.Thevehiclewillrollatabout1to3mph(1.6to4.8km/h).
Ifthewalk-awaybrakingfunctionremainsengagedfortwosecondsormore,awarningbuzzerwillsoundto
alertthedriverthatmotorbrakinghasbeenactivated.
WARNING
•Walk-awaybrakingwillnotlimitvehiclespeedto3mph(4.8km/h)onverysteepgrades.Donot
operatevehicleonslopesexceeding20%grades.
•PedalDownMotorBraking:Thisfeaturehelpstocontrolvehicledownhillspeed.Motorbrakingisactivatedwhen
thevehiclereachestheprogrammedtopspeedandholdsthevehicleatthatspeed.Motorbrakingisautomatically
disengagedwhenvehiclespeedslowsbelowtheprogrammedtopspeed.SeefollowingWARNING.
•PedalUpMotorBraking:
SpeedsettingsareprogrammableforIQPlusvehicles.Motorbrakingisactivatedwhentheacceleratorpedalis
releasedatorabovetheprogrammedspeed.Whenthevehicleslowstotheprogrammedlowerspeed;motor
brakingwilldisengage.Ifnospeedsettingsareprogramed,motorbrakingwillbeactivatedatanytimeaccelerator
pedalisreleased,anditwillonlydisengagewhenthevehiclecomestoastop.Contactyourdealer/distributorto
inquireaboutthisprogrammablefeature.SeefollowingWARNING.
WARNING
•Whenbatteriesarefullycharged,awarningbuzzerwillsoundduringmotorbrakingtoalertthedriver
thatmotorbrakingisoperatingatareducedlevelofperformance.Whenthisoccurs,usethebrake
pedaltocontrolvehiclespeed.
