•Battery–Explosivegases!Donotsmoke.Keepsparksandamesawayfromthevehicleandservice area.Ventilatewhenchargingoroperatingvehicleinanenclosedarea.Wearafullfaceshieldand rubbergloveswhenworkingonornearbatteries.
•Gasoline/Diesel–Flammable!Explosive!Donotsmoke.Keepsparksandamesawayfromthe vehicleandservicearea.Serviceonlyinawell-ventilatedarea.
•Donotoperateengineinanenclosedareawithoutproperventilation.Theengineproducescarbon monoxide,whichisanodorless,deadlypoisonthatcanquicklyaccumulateinanenclosedcab.Do notruntheengineinaparkedvehiclewithoutpropercabventilation.Movetofreshairifyoufeel nausea,headache,dizziness,drowsinessorweakness.
•Thevehiclewillnotprovideprotectionfromlightning,yingobjects,orotherstorm-relatedhazards. Ifcaughtinastormwhiledrivingthisvehicle,exitthevehicleandseekshelterinaccordancewith applicablesafetyguidelinesforyourlocation.

•Donotwearlooseclothingorjewelrysuchasrings,watches,chains,etc.,whenservicingthevehicle.
•Useinsulatedtoolswhenworkingnearbatteriesorelectricalconnections.Useextremecautionto avoidshortingofcomponentsorwiring.
•Whenservicingthevehiclewithpartofthevehicleonjackstands,donotoperatetheenginewiththe Forward/ReversehandleineithertheFORWARDorREVERSEposition.Theall-wheeldrivesystemwill engageanywheel(s),frontorrear,withtraction(Figure3,Page14).

KEYSWITCH–GASOLINEVEHICLES
Thekeyswitch(7)ismountedontheinstrumentpaneltotherightofthesteeringcolumn(Figure13,Page20).It hasthreepositions:OFF ,ON,andSTART .
Tostartthevehicle,placetheForward/ReversehandleintheNEUTRALpositionandturnthekeytotheSTART position,andholditthereuntiltheenginestarts.Activatethechoke(14)asnecessary.Iftheenginedoesnotstartafter 10to15seconds,releasethekeyandrepeattheprocedure.Oncetheenginestarts,releasethekeyanditwillreturn totheONposition.Theenginewillidleinneutral.TheenginewillcontinuetoidleuntilthekeyisturnedtotheOFF position.SeefollowingWARNING,CAUTION,andNOTE.
WARNING
•Movingparts!Keepclearoftheenginecompartmentwhiletheengineisrunning.
CAUTION
•DonotshifttheForward/Reversehandlewhiletheacceleratorpedalispressed.Shiftthehandleonly whenthevehicleisatacompletestopandtheengineisatidle.Failuretoheedthiscautioncould resultindamagetothetransmission.
