2. Mounting the clamping ring

2.1 Selecting the correct tonearm base

If you would like to use the
swing base as described in the user manual. The clamping ring is not needed in this case.

For Clearaudio Performance DC and Ovation turntables you can use the following tonearm bases.

• To mount the clamping ring on a turntable in the Clearaudio Innovation series you will need
to mount the Unify 12 inch level base (Art. No. AC030-4).

2.2 Mounting the clamping ring

If the mounting of the clamping ring is necessary, please proceed as follows. Otherwise you can

proceed to point 3.
Attach the aluminium clamping ring to the clean surface of the turntable chassis using the included

M4 x 10 hex socket head cap screws and the matching hex wrench (#3).
Make sure that the clamping ring sits perfectly at on the mounting surface.

Mounting the aluminum clamping ring on a non-Clearaudio turntable:

To install the aluminium clamping ring on the turntable chassis, you will need to drill the required
holes. Please refer to the drilling template shown below (Pic. 7) for the measurements to mark the

exact drilling holes.

Please be informed, that this drawing is not suitable for use as a mounting tool.

Use a 3.3mm HSS drill bit, then cut an M4 thread into each hole using an appropriate tap cutting
tool.

If the turntable chassis material is not suitable for cutting threads, please use a 4.5mm HSS drill bit

to drill the holes through the material. In this case use standard bolts and nuts to x the arm base.

3. Mounting of the

First, guide rst tonearm cable, followed by the foot of the tonearm, through the aluminium clamping
Ring, swing base, or tonearm base.

Next, set the approximate height and position of the

tonearm and secure it with the arm locking screw in
the aluminium clamping ring, swing base, or tonearm
base (see Picture 8).

To adjust the position of the tonearm, we recommend
the Clearaudio Cartridge Alignment Gauge
(Art. No. AC005/IEC; www.analogshop.de).

You can also use a common ruler for this purpose.
The distance of the spindle to the centre of the clamping

ring should be 222mm.

4. Mounting of the cartridge

Important note: To avoid any damage to your cartridge during assembly, please leave
the stylus guard on your cartridge and proceed very carefully.

Make sure that the tonearm height allows enough space above the turntable platter for cartridge
to be tted. Using the screws supplied (M2.5 x 12 or M2.5 x 14), attach the cartridge on to the

aluminium headshell.
Next, connect the arm cable clips to the cartridge contacts.

Please observe the following colour coding:

Red: right channel / R+

Green: right channel / R-

White: left channel / L+

Blue: left channel / L-

Now you can remove the rubber band that serves as a carriage lock.

adjustment

5.1 Setting the position

Use a ruler to measure the distance from the tip of the needle to the front edge of the tonearm slide.
The optimum measurement is 64mm.

To adjust it, slightly open both screws on top of the tonearm carriage using the #1.5 hex wrench
and move the headshell into the correct position.

5.2 Pre-adjustment of the tracking force

Note: This step requires removing the stylus guard from the cartridge.
Please proceed with great care to avoid any damage.

Use one of the counterweights supplied to adjust the tracking force, so that the cartridge is lowered
with minimal force. The choice of counterweight will depend on the weight of the cartridge.

Our recommendation:

Weight size 1 for cartridges weighing 7g
Weight size 3 for cartridges weighing 8g
Weight size 4 for cartridges weighing 12g

This tonearm is suitable for cartridges with a weight of 7g or more. If your cartridge is lighter, use a
weight between the headshell and the cartridge (headshell plate is not included).

5.3 Positioning the tonearm horizontally

After correct horizontal adjustment of your turntable, loosen the two screws with an hex wrench #2
(Pic. 15) by about one turn.

By alternately tightening the screws, you can position the tonearm horizontally, in accordance with
the bubble level.

5.4 VTA-Adjustment

The Clearaudio linear gauge is suitable for adjusting the tonearm height, since it corresponds to
the thickness of a record and the linear track is marked.

Place the Clearaudio linear gauge through the existing hole on the turntable spindle and align it so

that it points toward the tonearm base.

Place the included Mini Level Gauge on the headshell (Pic. 16; page 12), and by lowering the lift, the

VTA setting can be checked and readjusted if necessary.

Proceed as follows

• If using the clamping ring / a tonearm base:

Loosen the screw on the clamping ring / tonearm base and move the tonearm in the appropriate
direction until the bubble of the Mini Level Gauge is centered in its housing.

• If using the swing base:

Lift the top of the swing base and loosen the screws on the bottom of the swing base, then move
the tonearm in the appropriate direction until the bubble of the Mini Level Gauge is centred in its

housing.

Repeat this process until the desired alignment is achieved.

Fix this position and check it again.

To x the VTA during further adjustment of the TT5. We recommend the use of the included TT5

VTA clamp.

For this, remove both screws from the TT5 VTA clamp with the enclosed hex wrench #3.

Place the two halves of the VTA clamp around the tonearm pillar so that they sit on the tonearm
base or swing base and gently tighten the screws with the hex wrench #3.

Now you can loosen the screw of the clamping ring / tonearm base, or the screws of the swing base,

and continue to point 5.5.

5.5 Adjustment of the azimuth
(vertical position of the cartridge / stylus in the record groove)

Important: Please use extreme caution during this step. Always lift the arm upwards
during the adjustment.

Using the arm lift lever, lower the cartridge carefully onto the included adjustment gauge. Now
check from the front and with the help of the Mini Level Gauge the alignment of the cartridge and
re-adjust it if necessary.
The cartridge is in perfect alignment when it is vertical to the surface of the platter (see Pic. 17)
and the bubble of the Mini Level Gauge is centered (Pic. 18).

5.6 Fine adjustment of the tracking force

Set the correct tracking force of your cartridge according to the manufacturers instructions.

To set the correct tracking force, we recommend the digital cartridge weight „Weight Watcher“ from
Clearaudio (Art. No. AC094, also available at www.analogshop.de; Pic. 19)

After completing all settings, please make sure that the signal cable forms a smooth loop to the rear.

5.7 Setting the tangential
Reposition the Clearaudio linear gauge through the existing hole on the turntable spindle and align

it so it points toward the tonearm base.

Now use arm lift lever to lower the needle onto the Clearaudio linear gauge at the run-out groove
position and move the gauge carefully until needle tip sits exactly on the reference line (see Pic. 20,
red mark).

Lift the cartridge again up and move it to the inlet groove (Pic. 21). Lower the cartridge again.

Never move the cartridge when it is lowered in the adjustment gauge!

If the needle is not parallel to the reference line, rotate the tonearm base in the appropriate

direction, x it slightly, and check you result again.

Repeat this process until the needle tip sits perfectly in both positions in the reference line of the

linear gauge. Finally, tighten the screw/screws of the tonearm base to x your result.

Now, check all settings as described from point 5 and repeat the adjustment if necessary.

After setting the tangential tracking angle, x the tonearm pilar in the tonearm base / clamping ring
or TT5 swing base. Now you can remove the TT5 VTA x by unscrewing the M4 cylinder head screws
with a hex wrench (# 3).

The Clearaudio TT5 tonearm is now fully adjusted and ready to play.

6. Special notes

6.1 Maintenance

glass cleaner onto the cotton swab and move it through the glass tube, moving from lead-in t
groove to the run-out groove end.

• Please make sure that the precision dry ball bearings are not be touched, cleaned or lubricated

in any way. Please only clean the glass tube.

Never insert the oil into the precision bearing as this will result in damage of bearing.

2. Befestigung des Aluminium-Klemmringes

2.1 Wahl der Tonarmbasis

Möchten Sie den

• Zur Montage des Klemmringes auf einem Laufwerk der clearaudio Innovation Serie benötigen
Sie die Unify 12 Zoll Stufenbasis (Art. Nr. AC030-4).

2.2 Montage des Klemmringes

Sollte die Montage des Klemmringes nötig sein gehen Sie bitte folgt vor, ansonsten können Sie mit

Punkt 3 fortfahren.

Befestigen Sie den Aluminium-Klemmring auf der sauberen Oberäche des Laufwerkschassis mit den
drei mitgelieferten Zylinderkopfschrauben (M4 x 10) und dem passenden Innensechskantschlüssel
(Größe 3). Achten Sie auf passgenauen Sitz und planebene Montageächen.

Bitte ziehen Sie alle drei Schrauben fest an (siehe Abb. 3).

Montage des Aluminium-Klemmringes auf einem Laufwerk anderer Hersteller:

Um den Aluminium-Klemmring auf dem Laufwerkchassis anbringen zu können, müssen erst
die Bohrungen zur Befestigung angebracht werden. Die Maße zum Anzeichnen der exakten
Bohrlochabstände entnehmen Sie bitte der unten abgebildeten Bohrschablone (siehe Abb. 7).

Bitte beachten Sie, dass diese Abbildung nicht maßstabsgetreu ist.

Verwenden sie für die Bohrungen einen 3,3 mm HSS-Spiralbohrer. Anschließend schneiden Sie in die
Bohrungen mit einem Gewindebohrer jeweils M4-Gewinde.
Ist das Material das Laufwerkchassis nicht dazu geeignet, es mit Gewinden zu versehen, verwenden
Sie bitte einen 4,5 mm HSS-Spiralbohrer, um die Bohrungen durch das Material zu bohren. In diesem
Fall können Sie den Klemmring mit handelsüblichen Schrauben in der entsprechenden Länge und
den dazu passenden Muttern befestigen (V2A-Inbus).

3. Aufsetzen des

Bitte führen Sie zuerst das Tonarmkabel, dann den Fuß des Tonarms durch den Aluminium-Klemmring

oder die T onarmbasis. Anschließend stellen Sie die Höhe und die P osition des Tonarmes grob ein und

xieren ihn mit der seitlichen Schraube des Klemmringes oder der Tonarmbasis.

Zur Einstellung des Drehpunktes des Tonarms empfehlen
wir die clearaudio Drehtonarm Einstellschablone
(Art. Nr. AC005/IEC unter www.analogshop.de).

Sie können allerdings hierzu auch ein Lineal benutzen.
Der Abstand der Spindel Plattentellers zum Drehpunkt

des Tonarms sollte 222 mm als Startmaß für die Justage

betragen.

4. Montage des Tonabnehmers

Bitte belassen Sie während der Montage den Nadelschutz auf Ihrem Tonabnehmer­system!

Bitte gehen Sie bei der Montage äußerst vorsichtig vor, um Schäden an Ihrem
Tonabnehmersystem zu vermeiden.

Stellen Sie sicher, dass der Tonarm nach oben geliftet ist und ausreichend Platz zum Plattenteller

vorhanden ist. Nun können Sie den Tonabnehmer mithilfe der mitgelieferten Schrauben
(M2,5 x12 oder M2,5 x 14) am Aluminiumheadshell befestigen.

Verbinden Sie anschließend das jeweilige Signalkabels mit den farblich passenden Pins des

Tonabnehmersystems. Beachten Sie dabei folgende Farbcodierung:

Rot: rechter Kanal / R+

Grün: rechter Kanal / R-

Weiß: linker Kanal / L+

Blau: linker Kanal / L-

Einstellungen

5.1 Einstellung der Grundposition

Mit einem Lineal messen Sie nun die Distanz von der Nadelspitze bis zur Vorderkante des
Tonarmschlittens. Das optimale Maß beträgt 64 mm.
Zur Korrektur öen Sie mit Hilfe des Innensechskantschlüssels # 1,5 leicht beide Schrauben auf der
Oberseite des Tonarmschlittens und bewegen das Headshell in die richtige Position.

5.2 Voreinstellung der Aufklagekraft

Um die Einstellung vorzunehmen müssen Sie nun den Nadelschutz entfernen, bitte
behandeln Sie das System mit Sorgfalt, um dieses nicht zu beschädigen.

Verwenden Sie eines der mitgelieferten Gewichte um die Auagekraft grob einzustellen, indem
Sie das Gegengewicht auf das Ende des Tonarmrohres aufschieben (Abb. 13) und mit einem
Innensechskantschlüssel #1,5 xieren (Abb. 14).

Die Wahl des Gegengewichtes ist abhängig vom Eigengewicht des Tonabnehmers.
Unsere Empfehlung:

Gewicht Gr. 1 ab Tonabnehmergewicht 7 g
Gewicht Gr. 3 ab Tonabnehmergewicht 8 g
Gewicht Gr. 4 ab Tonabnehmergewicht 12 g

Dieser Tonarm ist für Tonabnehmer ab 7 g Eigengewicht geeignet! Sollte Ihr Tonabnehmer leichter
sein, benutzen Sie bitte zusätzlich ein Gewicht zwischen Headshell und Tonabnehmer.

(Headshellplättchen nicht im Lieferumfang enthalten, erhätlich über Ihren Fachhändler oder über
clearaudio ([e-mail])).

5.3 Horizontale Einstellung des Tonarms

Nach korrekter horizontaler Justage Ihres Laufwerkes, lockern Sie nun die beiden Schrauben mit
einem Innensechskantschlüssel #2 (siehe Abb. 15 ) um circa eine Umdrehung.

Durch abwechselndes Festziehen der Schrauben können Sie unter Beachtung der Wasserwaage den

Tonarm in Waage bringen, bis die Blase in der Waage in der Mitte steht.

5.4 VTA-Einstellung

Die clearaudio linear gauge eignet sich zum Einstellen der Tonarmhöhe, da sie der Stärke einer
Schallplatte entspricht und die lineare Spur gekennzeichnet ist.

Platzieren Sie die clearaudio linear gauge durch das vorhandene Loch auf dem Dorn des Platten-
spielers und richten Sie diese so aus, dass diese in Richtung Tonarmbasis zeigt.

Die enthaltene Mini Level Gauge wird auf das Headshell gelegt (sh. Abb. 16) und durch das Senken
des Lifts die VTA Einstellung und gegebenenfalls nachjustiert.

Gehen Sie hierbei wie folgt vor:

• Klemmring / Tonarmbasis:

Lockern Sie die Schraube an dem Klemmring/der Tonarmbasis und bewegen Sie den Tonarm in
die entsprechende Richtung bis die Blase der Mini Level Gauge in ihrem Gehäuse zentriert ist.

• swing base: Heben Sie das Oberteil der swing base an und lockern Sie die Schrauben am

Unterteil der swing base und bewegen Sie den Tonarm in die entsprechende Richtung bis die
Blase der Mini Level Gauge in ihrem Gehäuse zentriert ist.

Wiederholen Sie den Vorgang bis die gewünschte Ausrichtung erreicht ist.

Fixieren Sie diese eingestellte Position und überprüfen Sie diese erneut.

Damit der VTA während der weiteren Justage des

TT5

xiert werden kann, empfehlen wir die

Verwendung des TT5 VTA x.

Entnehmen Sie hierzu bitte mit dem beiliegenden Innensechskantschlüssel #3 beide
Zylinderkopfschrauben M4 aus dem TT5 VTA x.

Nun legen Sie beide Elemente um den Tonarmfuß eben auf die Tonarmbasis / TT5 swing base und
schrauben die beiden Elemente mit den Zylinderkopfschrauben M4 und dem Innensechskantschlüssel
#3 handfest zu.

Nun können Sie die Schraube der Tonarmbasis/des Klemmringes bwz. die Schrauben der swing base
wieder lösen und mit Punkt 5.5 fortfahren.

5.5 Einstellung des Azimuth
(Vertikale Position des Tonabnehmer - Diamanten in der Rille)

Bitte gehen Sie während des folgenden Schrittes äußerst vorsichtig vor!
Bitte Tonabnehmersystem während der Justage immer nach oben liften!

Senken Sie den Tonabnehmer mithilfe des Liftes vorsichtig auf die mitgelieferte Einstellschablone ab.
Überprüfen Sie nun von vorne und anhand der Mini Level Gauge die Ausrichtung des Tonabnehmers

und justieren diese gegebenenfalls nach.

Der Tonabnehmer ist optimal eingestellt, wenn dieser senkrecht zur Plattenoberäche steht (siehe
Abb. 17) und die Blase der Mini Level Gauge zentriert ist.

5.6 Feineinstellung der Auagekraft

Stellen Sie die korrekte Auagekraft Ihres Tonabnehmers laut der Herstelleranleitung ein.
Zur Einstellung der korrekten Auagekraft empfehlen wir die digitale Tonabnehmerwaage „Weight
Watcher“ von clearaudio (Art. Nr. AC094; auch erhältlich über www.analogshop.de)(Abb. 19).

Nach Abschluss aller Einstellungen achten Sie bitte darauf, dass das Signalkabel eine gleichmäßige

Schlaufe nach hinten bildet.

5.7 Einstellung der Tangentialen

Platzieren Sie die clearaudio linear gauge erneut durch das vorhandene Loch auf dem Dorn des
Plattenspielers und richten Sie diese so aus, dass diese in Richtung der Tonarmbasis zeigt.

Senken Sie mit dem Lift die Nadel „in Höhe der Auslaufrille“ auf die clearaudio linear gauge und
bewegen Sie diese vorsichtig, soweit, bis die Nadelspitze exakt auf der Referenzlinie (siehe Abb. 20
„rote Linie“) sitzt.
Heben Sie den Tonabnehmer wieder an und führen ihn zur „Einlaufrille“ (Abb. 21).

Dort senken Sie ihn erneut ab.

Bewegen Sie niemals den Tonabnehmer in der Justageschablone während dieser
abgesenkt ist.

Bei fehlender Parallelität der Nadel zur Referenzlinie, drehen Sie die Tonarmbasis in die entsprechende
Richtung, xieren Sie diese leicht und überprüfen Sie Ihr Ergebnis erneut.

Wiederholen Sie diesen Vorgang bis die Nadelspitze perfekt in allen Positionen in der Referenzlinie

der Einstellschablone sitzt.
Ziehen Sie abschließend die Schraube/Schrauben der Tonarmbasis handfest an, um Ihr Ergebnis zu
xieren.

Überprüfen Sie nun alle Einstellungen wie ab Punkt 5 beschrieben und wiederholen Sie gegebenenfalls
die Justage nochmals.

Nach Einstellung der Tangentialen xieren Sie den Tonarmfuß über die Tonarmbasis/ Klemmring /
TT5 swing base.

Abschließend entfernen Sie den TT5 VTA x, indem Sie mit dem Innensechskantschlüssel #3 die

Zylinderkopfschrauben M4 lösen.

6. Besondere Hinweise

6.1 Wartung

• Wenn der
zu schützen.

• Zur Reinigung des Glasrohrs verwenden Sie Wattestäbchen und einen handelsüblichen

Glasreiniger. Etwas Glasreiniger auf das Wattestäbchen geben und mit einer Bewegung von
„Einlauf-“ zur „Auslauf-Rille“ durch das Glasrohr führen.

• Bitte stellen Sie sicher, dass das Präzisionskugellager nicht berührt, gereinigt oder in irgendeiner
Weise geschmiert werden. Bitte reinigen Sie nur das Glasrohr.

Warnung:
Niemals Öl in die Präzisionslager geben, da dies zu einer Beschädigung des Lagers
führen könnte.
