Dear Clearaudio customer, Congratulations on the purchase of your new
basic V2
phonostage.
Within that sleek aluminium casing (with silver or black anodized nish) lies an inner world of highly rened features. Its predecessor, the basic plus, was a multiaward winner and with the V2 we’ve taken all of that coveted ‘Plus’ technology up a notch.
On the outside, we’ve kept it very simple. There’s just one visible control, a single power switch on
the upper surface that opens up a raft of possibilities. On the underside you can switch between moving coil and moving magnet mode.
From there, you can easily enjoy the
basic V2
with almost any high-end phono cartridge without
making any further adjustments. Or, you can choose from a range of performance enhancing settings to ne-tune its parameters to your system and your heart’s content. An optional subsonic lter attenuates any unwanted low frequency noise, while RIAA equalization accuracy is within 0.1 dB. All of which adds up to the
basic V2
being the perfect all-rounder for both audiophiles and music
lovers. We wish you a lot of listening pleasure with your new Clearaudio
basic V2
phonostage.

- Setup -
Select cartridge type operation mode:
Set the switches on the bottom panel of the
basic V2
chassis as follows:
• MM operation: Buttons ‘gain’ not pressed in (load impedance = 47 kOhm)
• MC operation: Buttons ‘gain’ pressed in (load impedance = 500 Ohm)
Position MM = button not pressed, Position MC = button pressed in.

Subsonic-Filter:
Set the switches on the bottom panel of the
basic V2
chassis as follows:
• Subsonic lter is on: Both buttons ‘subsonic’ pressed in
• Subsonic lter is o: Both buttons ‘subsonic’ not pressed in

- Attention -
All switches are duplicated for the left and right channels.
Please make sure that both corresponding switches are always in the same position.
Before switching any settings be sure to shut o the power to the
basic V2

Never cover or put anything on top of the
basic V2,
which could lead to overheating of electronic
parts.
If the unit is not in use for an extended period, switch it o.

- Notice –
Phonostages are devices designed to provide a very high level of amplication. This is necessary
because the electrical signal generated by a phono cartridge is extremely low (usually less than one-
thousandth of a volt). The job of the phonostage is therefore to accurately equalise the phono signal and boost it to line level (measured in volts).
However, phonostages are by nature extremely sensitive, which leads to the potential problem that
high-frequency interference may also be amplied to a point at which it becomes noticeable.
Unfortunately it is not possible to completely protect the sensitive phonostage circuitry from this
interference without degrading its high delity performance. Therefore care must be taken to position
the phonostage away from sources of high frequency interf erence such as mobile phones, modems
and powerline communication systems (PLC) in which data is sent over the mains power network.
