SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1.DO NOT exceed the load capacity .
IMPORTANT: If the load capacity decal becomes worn or illegible, contact Clarke
International Spares Division, on 020 8988 7400 for replacement.
2.Ensure that the equipment is assembled correctly and that all the bolts and pins are in
place and secure.
3.Only use the transmission jack on a solid, flat, level surface.
5.Lower the load as much as possible before moving the jack. Do not ransport loads in
an elevated position.
6.Do not stand under the load.
7.Use appropriate safety equipment, such as protective footwear, when using this jack.
8.Ensure the operator is skilled and trained in both operation and safety aspects.
9.Always inspect the jack before use to ensure it is in good condition, and replace any
damaged or worn parts.
10. When replacing parts, use only those supplied by Clarke International. Refer to Parts
List.
11. Ensure that the jack is properly maintained, and lubricated at all times, and that no
rust or other forms of corrosion is allowed to weaken any part of it.
12. If the jack has been subjected to an abnormal load or shock, it should be removed
from service immediately and fully inspected by qualified personnel, and passed as
serviceable, before being used again

IMPORTANT
ALWAYS ensure that the centre of gravity of the load, is centred about the cradle, before
taking the full weight.
PRE-ASSEMBLY
Unpack the components on a clean flat area of hard standing, and ensure that all parts
are present according to the packing list, as follows:
1.Column Assembly complete.
2.2 Wheel Brackets with 4 bolts and shake proof washers.
3.4 Castors with nuts and washers.
4.1 Cradle.
5.1 Vent Plug.
6.1 Instruction manual
Visually inspect all components to ensure that no damage was suffered in transit. Any
damage should be reported to your CLARKE dealer immediately.
ASSEMBLY (Ref. Parts List)
1.Turn the Wheel Brackets (item 40), so that the offset edge is facing down (see fig 1),
and attach the castors (41) using the washers and nuts provided. Tighten firmly.
2.Lay the column on its side, and bolt on the two wheel bracket assemblies, with the
castors facing downwards, using the two bolts (39) with
shake proof washers supplied (15). Nip up the bolts, but DO
NOT tighten at this stage.
3.Raise the column to the upright position, resting on its
castors, and ensure it is on firm level ground.
4.Using a square, and testing in two directions - at 90° to each
other, ensure the column is completely vertical. When
satisfied, tighten the leg securing bolts fully.
5.Place the cradle (43) on top of the ram.
6.Remove the transit plug from the ram, and replace it with
the vent plug (37) provided. Retain the transit plug.
fig. 1
NOTES:
a.During transit or storage, it is possible that an air pocket may have developed within
the hydraulic ram, and the ram action may therefore appear to be ‘spongy’. As the
ram is self bleeding, any air will be dispelled, and the ram action normalised, by raising
and lowering the column a few times.
b
. Should the column not reach its full height, the ram oil level should be checked, as
described in the Maintenance Section.
4
OPERATION
A. Raising the column
Turn the Handle (35) fully clockwise, thereby closing the pump valve,
and pump the foot lever (13) to reach the desired height.
Ensure the centre of gravity of the load is completely centred about the
cradle before the full load is taken, and secure the load with chains.
B. Lowering the column
With the load fully secured, turn the Handle (35) VERY SLOWLY
anticlockwise, and the column will lower.
NOTE:
The more the Handle is turned, the greater will be the rate of descent.
Be extremely careful when lowering heavy loads.
MAINTENANCE
1.Always visually inspect the jack before use, to ensure that all parts are correctly locate
and secure. Check for hydraulic leaks, signs of damage or worn parts and check the
wheels and castors for serviceability.
Do not use the jack unless it is perfectly serviceable.
2.A slight dampness on the ram is normal, but where leakage is apparent, the ram seals
must be renewed.
3.The jack should be fully inspected annually.
a. Check for cracks and deformation of components.
b. Check wheels and castors to ensure they move freely without undue wear to their
bores, and that the wheels are not cracked or damaged in any way.
c. Check the hydraulic ram operation and check oil level. (see below).
d. Remove completely, any rust or corrosion and repaint to prevent further corrosion.
e. Ensure that all decals and warning notices are in place and perfectly legible.
5.It may be necessary from time to time to top up the Hydraulic ram oil level. Proceed
asfollows.
a. Lower the ram to its lowest position, and remove the vent plug (37).
b. Using an oil can, slowly top up the oil until it begins to over flow. When the excess oil
has completely drained off, replace the vent plug.
NOTE: Top up using Clarke hydraulic oil (part number 3050830).
We recommend that the hydraulic oil is changed after every 100 hours of operation.
6.After use, wherever possible, store the jack with the ram in its lowest position. This not
only relieves the hydraulic ram, but also prevents any possibility of corrosion to the ram.
7.Do not leave the jack in the open, exposed to the elements. Keep under cover.
8.If the jack is transported in the horizontal position, the vent plug should be replaced
with the transit plug.
9.DO NOT remove the Pump Pressure Relief Valve, or attempt to adjust the pump settings.
