1 x Main Handle2 x M8 Nuts
2 x Adjusting Handles2 x M8 Washers
1 x Instruction Manual2 x M12 x 60 mm Bolts
1 x Handle Support Bar2 x M12 Lock Nuts
1 x M8 x 25 mm Bolt4 x M12 Washers
ASSEMBLY
1. Attach both height adjustment
handles to the height adjustment
arms using the 70 mm M8 bolts,
nuts and washers.
2. If supplied loose, attach the
moving Handle Support Bar using
the 25mm M8 bolt. Do not
tighten at this stage.
3. Mount the main handle onto the
cam actuator shaft with two
M12 x 60 mm bolts, washers and
M12 locknuts and tighten with
the 2 x 19mm spanners.
• The arms of the handle will need
to be squeezed together in
order to align the holes with
those in the shaft.
5
OPERATION
1. Raise the handle all the way up.
Turn both height adjustment
handles at the same time and by
the same amount to open the
blades far enough for the block
to be inserted.
2. Place the block in the centre of
the blades and adjust its position
to the required cut line.
3. Swivel the moving handle support
bar aside to allow the handle to
descend fully.
4. Lower the handle to bring the
blade tightly onto the block.
AVOID TURNING EITHER OF THE HEIGHT ADJUSTERS INDIVIDUALLY. THEY
SHOULD BE USED AS A PAIR, ENSURING THAT THE WHOLE LENGTH OF
THE BLADE SITS EVENLY ON THE SURFACE OF THE BLOCK.
5. Adjust the height adjustment handles to set the top blade in relation to the
block.
• The handle should rest at
approximately15
horizontal when the blade is
sitting on the block prior to
splitting. This also gives adequate
clearance when the handle is
fully raised to move similar blocks
in and out of the splitter.
6. With the blade in full contact with
the block, push the handle down
quickly to split the block.
7. Fully raise the handle to insert the
next block. Normally, there should be no need to make any further height
adjustments to split similar blocks. To split blocks of a different size, follow
steps 1 & 2.
o
above
DO NOT TRY TO CUT TOO CLOSE TO THE EDGE OF THE BLOCK. THIS
COULD RESULT IN CRACKING, CRUMBLING, OR A RAGGED FINISH TO
THE SPLIT.
6
UNDERCUTTING
Because this tool splits, rather than cuts, there will be a clean straight edge at
the top and bottom of the block and a rough broken face between.
The spring-loaded tables offer the
ability to create an undercut when
splitting. Undercutting the block will
allow it to be placed very close to
the adjoining one.
1. Place the block to be split in the
splitter and push down on one or
other spring loaded table.
2. Lower the handle (this may
require adjustment of the upper
blade), making sure the cut line
on the top of the block is lined up
with the upper blade.
3. With the handle lowered and
both blades touching the block,
the contact pressure will keep the
table at an angle while the block
is split as usual.
MOVING THE SPLITTER
When wheeling the block splitter
around the construction site, the
handle can be used effectively in
conjunction with the handle support
bar.
1. With the handle lowered, rotate the moving handle support bar to lock
the handle down so that it can be used to wheel the splitter around the
site.
2. The securing bolt may be tightened if required using a 14 mm spanner to
fix the support bar in place.
7
MAINTENANCE
Always inspect the tool before use, and ensure it is in top condition.
BLADE REPLACEMENT
Each hardened blade has four
cutting edges to provide longer life
and can be rotated in order to use
a sharper blade.
To remove the blades or change
the cutting side of the blade,
remove the large blade fixing
screws securing the top or bottom
blade.
LUBRICATION
Occasionally grease the cam
actuator and the height adjustment
screws from underneath the splitter,
if movement of either has become
sluggish.
STORAGE
Store in a clean, dry environment
protected from the weather.
