Operating Instructions
Your fluid extractor can be used to extract a wide range of fluid types, a few examples are listed below:
Engine oil.
Transmission fluid.
Thin Gear oil.
Coolant.
Power steering fluid.
Ensure the work area is clean and tidy, the vehicle is safe and secure, i.e. the wheels are chocked etc. Refer to the vehicle manufacturers instructions before starting work, then proceed as follows.
1. Connect the extractor to a suitable air compressor, the compressor must be capable of delivering between 70PSI and 170PSI, DO NOT switch compressor on at
-7- -4-
Page 6
this stage. Adjust the compressor regulator to 90PSI. under normal conditions 90PSI should draw brake fluid up to a height of 1 metre into the tank.
It may be necessary to experiment, by increasing or decreasing the air pressure for particular applications.
2. Insert the connector with nylon hose Ø7.8 X 9.8mm into the fluid inlet by pushing down until it locks in position.
3. If necessary the hose can be extended using adapter Ø6.7 X Ø9.8mm, and the nylon hose Ø5.3 X Ø6.7mm.
4. Insert the hose into the container to be drained, ensure it cannot fall out, tape in position if necessary. When using the flexible silicon hose, it may be found difficult to insert it into the container to be drained, also kinking of the hose may occur, to prevent this from happening, insert the leader wire into the hose first.
5. Support the extractor by standing on the foot steady, switch the compressor on and operate the extractor by squeezing the trigger, observe the fluid flowing through the tube into the tank. The trigger can be held in place by using the trigger retainer if extracting large quantities of liquid.
6. When the required amount of liquid is extracted, or the tank is full (maximum 5.5 litres), release the trigger and switch the compressor OFF. Empty the tank and continue as above if required.
NOTE: to aid the flow when extracting oil, it may be necessary to warm the oil by running the
engine etc, for a few minutes first.
WARNING
Hot oil can be hazardous and can cause serious burns if not handled
correctly and necessary precautions are not observed, ALWAYS wear
protective clothing etc.
5. Open the bleed nipple slightly, turn the compressor on and depress the trigger, observe the fluid flowing through the hose and release the trigger when no air bubbles are visible, switch the compressor OFF, and gently close the bleed nipple.
6. Repeat the above procedure for all other brakes to be bled.
7. When finished bleeding, gently tighten the bleed nipple, DO NOT overtighten. release the trigger and switch OFF, the compressor,
Either clamp or squeeze the silicon tube when removing the adapter from the bleed nipple to prevent the brake fluid running out onto the floor, hold the adapter in the air release the clamp and allow the fluid to run into the tank.
Fig. 3
NOTES
IMPORTANT
DO NOT MIX LIQUIDS, Also dispose of liquids according to local regulations, under no circumstances should extracted liquids be poured down drains etc.
If using the extractor to bleed brakes, continue as follows.
!. Remove hoses by pushing down the coupler (see Fig. 2),
and pulling the connector out, store hoses safely for reuse.
2. Fit the brake bleeding hose and adapter by inserting the connector into the fluid inlet as before until it locks in position.
3. Attach the brake adapter to the first slave cylinder to be bled by pushing the adapter firmly onto the bleed nipple.
4. Top up the brake master cylinder with the correct brake fluid as specified by the vehicle manufacturer, check level regularly & top as required.
