END-OF-SALE AND END-OF-LIFE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR CISCO
CATALYST 4500 SERIES 48-PORT 1000BASE-LX LINE CARD AND
CATALYST 4000 SERIES POE HARDWARE
Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco® Catalyst® 4500 Series 48-port 1000BASE-LX
(SFP optics included) line card and Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series Power over Ethernet (PoE) hardware accessories. The last day
to order the affected products is February 1, 2006. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support
from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until February 1, 2011.
Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected products. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this
announcement.
Customers who are using the 48-port 1000BASE-LX line card (SFP optics included) are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series
48-port 1000BASE-X line card (SFP optics optional). This line card allows customers the added flexibility of installing various SFP optic types,
in various quantities, all on the same line card. Information about the replacement product can be found at:
Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series switches, which provide increased Power over
Ethernet (PoE) support and enhanced features for quality of service (QoS), high availability, and security. Information about the Catalyst 4500
Series can be found at:

to the replacement products.

Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series 48-Port 1000BASE-LX (SFP Optics Included) Line Card
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco Catalyst 4500 48-port 1000BASE-X line card (SFP optics optional), WS-X4448-GB-SFP, which
provide the following benefits:
• Customers can standardize on a common line card, decreasing their operational expenses
• Provides the flexibility of using a wider selection of optic types on one line card
• Provide a “pay-as-you-grow” model, allowing customers to purchase quantities of SFP optics based on current need
Cisco Catalyst 4000 Series PoE Hardware Accessories
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series chassis with integrated PoE power supplies. By purchasing the Catalyst 4500
Series, customers receive the following benefits:
• Ease of PoE integrated directly in the internal power supplies
• No PoE limitations per system or slot (the Cisco Catalyst 4006 is limited to 400 watts of PoE per slot)
• Rack space savings
• Cisco Catalyst 4507R and 4510R offer optional supervisor engine redundancy for increased high availability in IP telephony environments
Customers can use the Cisco Technology Migration Plan (TMP) to trade in products and receive credit toward the purchase of new Cisco equipment.
