Introducing Cisco VT Advantage

Congratulations on your purchase of Cisco VT Advantage. Cisco VT Advantage brings video telephony functionality to your Cisco IP Phone.

Getting Started

Check your Cisco VT Camera package and verify installation requirements before you begin the installation.

Cisco VT Camera Package
Review the following list to make sure you have received all the necessary items to install Cisco VT Advantage.
1 Cisco VT Camera with attached USB cable
1 flexible camera base
1 privacy shade

See Figure 1 in the “How to Set Up the Cisco VT Camera” section on page 5 for an illustration of the Cisco VT Camera components and connections. If you are missing any items, contact your system administrator before continuing with the installation.

Installation Requirements

Cisco VT Advantage is supported on the Cisco IP Phone 7970/7960/7940 series.
For the latest information about supported phone models and minimum PC requirements, contact your system administrator. If you are a system administrator or technician, information about Cisco VT Advantage network, PC, and other requirements is provided in the Cisco VT Advantage

Verify the following before you begin installing Cisco VT Advantage and the Cisco VT Camera:
Ensure that your Cisco IP Phone is connected to your corporate
telephony network. If your Cisco IP Phone is powered on and you can make voice calls, then you are properly connected.
Ensure that your Cisco IP Phone is video enabled. If the LCD screen on
your Cisco IP Phone displays this video icon on the status line, then your phone is video enabled. (If you do not see an icon similar to this one on your IP Phone, contact your system administrator.)
Ensure that a standard Ethernet cable is connected from your personal
computer’s (PC) Ethernet input to the Access Port labelled “10/100 PC” on the back of your Cisco IP Phone. On most PCs, you can verify that this connection is working by the presence of a lit green LED at the point where the Ethernet cable plugs into the PC.

Ensure that your PC meets the following specifications:

Installing Cisco VT Advantage
Make sure you have read the “Getting Started” section on page 1 before you begin installing Cisco VT Advantage.

Installation Sequence

You must follow this sequence when installing Cisco VT Advantage:
1. First, remove the Cisco VT Camera parts from the packaging and set up
the camera. See the “How to Set Up the Cisco VT Camera” section on
page 5.
2. Second, install the Cisco VT Advantage software. See the “How To
Install Cisco VT Advantage” section on page 9.
How to Set Up the Cisco VT Camera
Your system administrator or a technician will likely set up the Cisco VT Camera. If that is not the case, setting up your camera is easy. See
Figure 1, and the steps that follow.

Procedure
Caution Do not connect the camera to your PC until prompted to do so
during the installation of the Cisco VT Advantage software.
1. Remove the camera, privacy shade, and the flexible camera base from
the packaging.
2. Mount the camera on the flexible camera base: a. Insert the protruding black plastic tab on the camera base into the
opening on the bottom of the camera.
b. Snap the camera into place.
The camera will then be firmly connected to the flexible camera base.
3. Attach the privacy shade to the camera.
