These copyright and trademark guidelines provide information concerning the proper usage and protection of Ciena Corporation trademarks, registered trademarks, service marks, registered service marks, tradenames, and/or registered tradenames.

Tra dem ark s
Ciena Corporation trademarks may not be used in connection with any product or service that does not belong to Ciena Corporation. Furthermore, Ciena Corporation trademarks may not be used in any manner that is likely to cause confusion among customers or in such a way that it disparages or discredits Ciena Corporation.
Definitions
A trademark is often categorized as a word, name, text, graphic, symbol, logo, icon, image, device, and/or software or any combination used by a corporation to identify their products and distinguish those products from other corporations.
A service mark is typically used to identify a corporation’s services rather than tangible products.
A tradename is commonly used as the name of a corporation or an abbreviation of that name under which normal business activity is conducted. Some tradenames might be used in more than one category; therefore, it is important that the reader be aware of the context for which the tradename is used.
Categories
Trademarks, service marks, and tradenames generally fall into two categories:
LE-3xx/LE-4xx Hardware Installation & User Guide
Page 4
1.
Those that are registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office1 (USPTO).
2.
Those that are being used, but have not yet completed the registration process.
Both categories are protected, although those that are registered provide visible notice of the corporation’s rights and stronger enforcement provisions.
The registration process may take a long period of time before it is finalized, thus pending trademarks, service marks, and tradenames may be in use by the corporation.
Trademarks, service marks, and tradenames must be used with the first mention or most prominent appearance in a publication, but need not be used with each subsequent appearance. If there are multiple uses of trademarks, service marks, and tradenames throughout the publication, an explanatory note on the cover sheet is sufficient.

The LE-4xx SCS is managed directly using the Ciena/World Wide Packets Ethernet Services Manager (ESM). The LE-4xx SCS can also be managed using any SNMP manager. Services can be provisioned in real time without requiring software reloads or network outages. Alarms are also managed using NMS. Refer to the LightningEdge Network Supervisor EMS and NMS manuals for more information. The LE-4xx SCS can also be managed out-of-band via the local management port.
DHCP/TFTP- Auto Configuration and Recovery
After system initialization, using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), the LE-4xx SCS can discover startup and configuration information, such as its IP address, gateway, and command file name for downloading the application file via TFTP. This allows each device to be configured automatically without user intervention. This dynamic configuration can also help in recovering the device after a reboot or if a problem is detected.

RADIUS
Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) protocol that authenticates dial-in users and authorizes their access to the requested device or service. This type of authentication provides added security, ensuring that only the authenticated administrator can access the LE4xx SCS for management configuration. Having a central location facilitates usage/billing tracking and network statistics gathering.
Four-Group RMON
The LE-4xx SCS uses four-group RMON for management. These four groups include:

VLAN Management
Provisioning and maintaining VLANs is fast and easy using the Device Manager. Each VLAN is established with its own traffic rate and billing information to ensure that services are delivered without noticeable jitter or delay. Valuable usage statistics are also collected. VLANs are identified using 802.1Q tags.
As needed, each VLAN can carry multiple services or one single service. As a subscriber signs up for a service, a VLAN is provisioned for the subscriber. Each service is carefully delivered to the end device (set top box, PC, IP phone, etc.) complete with management functionality, priorities, and counters. Packets from multiple service providers can be delivered to the same subscriber without mixing traffic or complicated access control mechanisms. VLANs provide security among neighbors of the same service or different services, as each subscriber can be configured with a private VLAN to the service provider.
Prioritization
QoS entries can be created that give certain traffic a greater or lesser priority than it would otherwise receive. Traffic can be classified based on the port a frame is received on and the VLAN ID tag included in the frame, as well as the intended egress port. If a frame does not
LE-3xx/LE-4xx Hardware Installation & User Guide
7
Page 18
INTERCONNECTIVITY
include tag information, the VLAN membership of the ingress port is used as the VLAN ID. If an incoming traffic flow does not match any configured QoS entries, the flow is placed into a default traffic queue based upon its egress port.
IGMP
Internet Gateway Management Protocol (IGMP) is used to support IP multicasting. Defined in RFC 1112, IGMP defines how hosts and routers within the same network establish membership in multicast group streams. The use of IGMP allows the LE-4xx SCS to limit the broadcast of multicast streams without user intervention.
Power and Redundancy
The LE-310 is only available as an AC-powered device. The LE-311, LE-311v, LE-327, and LE-427 feature hot-swappable power supplies. One power supply is required for normal operation while a second power supply can be added for redundancy. These removable power supplies can be ordered as either AC or DC devices.
Link Aggregation
This standard defines how two or more Ethernet connections can be combined to provide load sharing, load balancing, and provide better reliability for high-traffic network connections.
The standard also provides inherent, automatic redundancy on point-to-point links. This is accomplished by dynamically redirecting traffic from a failed port (in a multi-port application) across the remaining good ports in the link.

1000BASE-X Uplink Ports
The LE-310, LE-311, LE-311v, and LE-327 provide 4 dedicated Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-X) ports. The LE-310 provides 3 100BASE-FX/1000BASE-X uplink ports. The LE-4xx SCS provides 16 Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-X) ports. These ports use small form factor, pluggable (SFP) optics, operate only in full duplex mode, and conform to the IEEE 802.3z (Gigabit Ethernet) standard. The SFPs are hot-swappable, allowing compliant optics to be plugged in to change the external interface of the port, thus providing a mix of possible distances and media types.
10/100BASE-TX Subscriber Ports (LE-311, LE-311v, and LE-327)
The LE-311, LE-311v, and LE-327 devices include 24 10/100BASE-TX, autonegotiating, auto MDIX ports for connecting subscriber and other downstream equipment. These ports use RJ-45 connectors and are fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3u Fast Ethernet standard.
Local Management Port
LE-4xx SCS devices provide one 10/100BASE-TX, autonegotiating, auto MDIX port for out-of-band management. This port uses an RJ-45 connector and is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3u Fast Ethernet standard. The management port can be used to attach a PC directly to the LE-4xx SCS or it can be plugged into a network for management. This port also contains its own status LEDs.

Removable Power Supplies
This section provides instructions for installing the power supplies into an LE-310, LE-311, LE311v, LE-327, and LE-427 devices. In general, the DC power supply has the same characteristics as the AC version. When two power supplies are installed, the power supplies provide system power simultaneously (load sharing). In systems with dual power supplies, additional redundancy can be achieved by connecting each power supply to a separate input circuit. In the event of a power failure on the first source, the second source may still be available.
Power supplies are hot-swappable, allowing one power supply to be removed and replaced while the remaining supply will compensate to maintain uninterrupted system operation. When only one power supply is to be installed, it should be used in the slot labelled PS1.

To avoid the inadvertent disconnection of the power supply cord, Ciena/World Wide Packets offers power cord retainer clips (purchased separately). These clips restrain the cord, thus relieving the cord weight from the connector. For devices with a fixed power supply, a cord saddle retainer is snapped into the fan outlet grid. For devices with removable power supplies, a twistable cord retainer is used. Contact Ciena/World Wide Packets Sales to purchase these retainer clips.

), insert it into the fan grid opening that is closest to the power receptacle and centered vertically on the fan grid. This ensures the least amount of air flow restriction.
2.
Plug the power cord firmly into the device's power receptacle.
3.
Route the power cord through the retainer clip.
4.
The power cord can now be plugged into a power source.

Transceiver Installation
Each LE-4xx SCS has 16 slots available for Gigabit Ethernet small form factor pluggable (SFP) optics. SFP modules provide the media-specific portion of an interface, allowing it to support Ethernet using different media types. One pluggable optic module can be installed into each available slot. Optic modules can be hot swapped. The following figure shows a typical pluggable optic module and its parts.
2
To install a pluggable optic into a port:
1.
Hold the optic module by the sides and position it so that the cutaway portion of the module is facing down and the 20-pin connector card (rear of the optic) is facing the empty optic slot.
NOTE:
If installed upside down, the optic will only insert halfway into the slot.
Remove the optic, turn it over, and reinstall. Do not insert the optic forcibly.
2.
Gently insert the pluggable optic module into the available slot until it seats completely.

CABLE INSTALLATION AND GUIDELINES
This guide assumes that the site's data cables have been properly installed in a centrally wired distribution configuration. When installing fiber optics cables and other network cabling, always have them installed and tested by a technician who is certified by the Electronics Industry Association/Telecommunications Industry Association (EIA/TIA). This ensures a quality installation and presents one less variable to consider when troubleshooting.
2
When installing cable,
Use more cable than required, leaving some slack.
Test each section of the network as it is installed. Even in new installations, problems may occur that will be difficult to isolate later.
Cover cables with cable protectors if it is necessary to run cables across the floor.
Label both ends of all cables.
Use cable ties or Velcro tie wraps to secure cables. If staples are used, they must be hand installed or use a depth stop.
Use cable hangers and J-hooks.
Do
NOT
:
Use electrical tape or any other type of tape to secure cables.
Overstress cables by over tightening cable ties or stapling cables to the point where crushing is visible. This is particularly applicable for fiber optic cables.
Exceed the minimum bending radius for fiber optic cables.
Install cables near sources of electrical interference. All twisted pair wires must be at least 3 feet away from fluorescent light boxes and other sources of electrical interference such as a power source. Fiber optic cables are not affected by electrical interference.
Run cable in power conduits or air plenums.
Do:
Connecting Cables to the Device
When connecting cables to the device, always make only one connection at a time. In general, connect fiber cables first, then connect the Cat 5 cables. If using a patch panel, connect the patch panel cables last.
UTP Cables
In order for two 10/100BASE-TX devices to receive and send data to each other, the transmit ports of the first device must be connected to the receive ports of the second device. This connection can be made using a straight through cable or a crossover cable.
Fiber Optic Cables
If installing pluggable transceiver optics, please refer to the on page 33 for additional information.

Page 46
INITIAL CONFIGURATION
Do not remove the dust cover until immediately prior to mating the connectors. For best results, prior to mating the Fiber optic connectors clean both the port and the connector with a lint free cloth moistened with alcohol. If available, the connectors should also be blown dry using canned, compressed air. Insert the connector into the port on the device until you hear a clicking sound.
10/100 Mbps Ethernet Transmit and Receive Pairs
10BASE-T/100BASE-TX Ethernet uses four wires to communicate, leaving four wires unused. However, all four pairs should be terminated. While Cat 5 cable is sufficient, Ciena/World Wide Packets recommends using Category 5e+ cable or better. All Ethernet cables must be shielded to meet the class B radiated emissions requirements.
Initial Configuration
Two different methods can be used to assign an IP address to the device. The recommended method is for the device to receive its IP address and other information automatically using a DHCP server. Alternately, an IP address can be configured manually using the CLI. If additional information on configuring an IP address is needed, contact Customer Support.
NOTE:
If the device has not been assigned an IP address other than the default IP address (either manually or through a DHCP server) communication can only take place through the local management port. Initial IP address configuration must therefore be done through the local management port.
CAUTION:
Use caution when setting an IP address or subnet mask, the new value takes effect immediately. If information is set that is inconsistent with network settings, communication with the device may no longer be possible. If all other troubleshooting methods have been exhausted, recovery may be possible using the Reset button.
VORSICHT:
