Chapter 1.Overview
1.1 Introduction
This document provides backplane specific information including the features, jumper settings, and pin definitions of 12Gb/s 4-port mini-SAS HD backplane, which is not compatible with the previous version of SR301 chassis with screw-installed 3.5” HDD trays. Moreover, it also lists down Chenbro worldwide technical contacts, so the user can contact our experienced field application engineers via either a phone call or email.
1.2 Chassis Revision
The SR301 chassis has been modified to support both tool-less 3.5” HDD tray and PCI-e 3.0 slot, and this feature-advanced chassis is named as SR301 Plus (SR301+). There is a sticker on chassis bottom with the information of chassis revision and manufacturing code, which are must for technical support.

Chapter 3.Function of Interface
There are various interfaces on this backplane used for connecting to mainboard and getting system operated. Also, there are some interfaces available for system debug and configuration purposes. All the features and signal characteristics on the interfaces will be described below. Caution should be paid carefully to make sure the electronical characteristic is appropriate between two ends of cables when connecting to mainboard.
3.1 SAS Connectors (CH011 / CH021 / CH031 / CH041)
There are four SFF-8482 connectors on this backplane to allow four SATA or SAS drives be manipulated by hot-swap without powering off the server system in advance.

3.2 mini-SAS HDD Connector, CB1
For connecting to a mainboard or a HBA, this mini-SAS HD connector is applied. A proper cable selection is essential as well to make sure good signal integrity can be maintained for the whole connection path from mainboard or HBA/RAID card to the HDD devices.

3.3 4-pin Fan Header (JF01)
There is one 4-pin header for PWM fan, and it is alternative solution that the chassis fan can be powered and monitored by this backplane instead of motherboard. If the chassis fan is connected to mainboard, user needs to disable the fan monitoring function of backplane by DIP switch (SW1).

3.4 HDD Access Mode Jumper (JP01)
This jumper allows you to configure HDD access LED and fail LED in two modes. The setting “HDD access mode” enables that a 3.5” SATA HDD controls the activity LED through the pin 11 of its SATA power connector. While the setting “SGPIO decode mode” is different, the HDD activity LED is controlled by side-band SGPIO signals which also support HDD failure, indicated by a solid red LED for each drive.
