INSTRUCTIONS FOR USER
Global warming is a concern for all of us. To preserve our environment we advise you an “intermittent” running of
your insert. Continuous running at a low speed, especially during the warmer periods (unfavourable draught), using damp wood, involves an incomplete combustion, which favours nut-browns deposits and tar. It is necessary to alternate slow running period by normal speed running period. Favour an operation of your insert by using small loads.
General points
F70L inserts are made to be operated only with woods burning logs. The maximal length of the logs is about 50 cm. It is absolutely forbidden to use inside the appliance, another material than wood burning logs.
Recommended fuels
Broad-leafed hardwoods such as hornbeam, oak, beech and elm provide the best firewood. We advise you to use very dry wood (20% dampness maximum), with 2 years’ covered storage after cutting, in order to obtain the best results and avoid rapid bistrage of the flue and window We strongly advise you to comply with the specifications per product reference in order to ensure your product a maximum lifespan.
We strongly advise you against using resinous woods (pine, fir, spruce, etc.)
Forbidden fuels
All fuels other than wood are prohibited, coal and its by-products in particular. Burning straw, cardboard and liquid fuels is dangerous and it must be avoided.
Wood load
For the durability of your appliance, please follow the recommended wood load (please refer to the technical sheet)

INSTRUCTION FOR USE
First lightings
Don’t make a too strong a fire! The first lighting should be moderate and should not burn for more than three hours. Ne faites pas de feu trop vif ! Le premier allumage doit être modéré et ne doit pas dépasser trois heures de combustion.
During first lightings, solvents in the paintwork may give off unpleasant smells. Ventilate the room!
Lightning
We advise you to light the fire from the top. This way of lightning, simple and efficient, decreases CO emissions. The logs will burn gradually from the top to the bottom. Compared to the lightning from the bottom, this type of combustion goes slowly, with the result that particulates matter are entirely burnt. The fire is light from the top and burn to the bottom, like a candle!
-Put some logs (10 to 12 cm) criss-cross, and then 4 sticks of soft wood (birch, poplar…) of around 3 cm on 20 cm which you will install like a rectangle on the fire-lighter. Sticks and fire lighter are surrounded in red in the picture below.
Regulate the handles of the inserts like the following drawing:
- Set fire to the fire-lighter and leave the door slightly open to speed up the lightning.
- When the « kindling » is in fire, open the door, and load the appliance with the recommended fuel. Act on the handles to obtain the power desired as described below.

MAINTENANCE
De-ashing
The air required for combustion of wood arrives beneath the grid when the primary air damper is open, and also keeps the grid cool. In order to obtain optimal performance and avoid degradation of the grid due to overheating, it is therefore essential to prevent its obstruction by regularly removing ashes. Use the scraper to remove ash from the grille.
Empty the contents of the ash box into a metal or non-inflammable container reserved exclusively for the purpose. Although ashes may appear cold, they can remain very hot even after cooling for some time
Window cleaning
- Wait until the appliance is cool or cold before carrying out the operation.
- Protect the flooring under the door to prevent dirtying it.
- Clean the glass with a damp cloth.
- Spray the window with a cleaning product designed for this purpose (ask your retailer for advise), complying with the instructions on the label.
- Wipe with a damp sponge.
To change the seals
In order to get an optimal combustion, we advise you to change the seal every year.
Type : ceramic braid seal Ø9 Reference : 5AIT650_009 Lenght : 2.50m
Please refer to the seal kit manual for its installation
Sweeping
Mechanical sweeping of the flue is essential. It should be carried out at least twice a year, with at least one sweeping during the heating season. A certificate should be issued by the contractor after completion of the operation. Take care to remove the baffle (raise it, move it forward, lower it and take it out). Some models are equipped with a draught shutter which must be removed if it is detachable! (for reinsertion of baffle and draught shutter, carry out steps for removal in reverse order).
- Thoroughly check the state of the appliance, elements ensuring airtightness in particular: seals and closing mechanisms, etc.
- Clean the appliance with a brush and a vacuum cleaner. If there is a problem, have the appliance or installation repaired by a professional.
16
SAFETY RULES
The fireplace radiates a lot of heat through the window glass. Do not place any heat-sensitive materials or objects closer than 1.20 metres from the glass.
Never operate the appliance without the ash box in position.
When removing ashes, empty the ash box into a metal or non-inflammable container reserved exclusively for the purpose.
CHIMNEY FIRES
In case of chimney fire, turn the primary air handle on position 3. Leave the door closed. Remove any easily inflammable materials from the neighbourhood of the appliance. Call the fire brigade and leave the premises. Keep a watch on events outside (sparks from the chimneystack, for example).
How to avoid chimney fires
Chimney fires can very often be avoided simply by using dry wood! Damp wood does not only diminish calorific power, it burns poorly (bistrage of the window) and generates creosotes (tarring of the flue), which are highly inflammable! Never reuse the appliance after a chimney fire without assessment by a qualified professional, who must check damage to the flue, etc.
Mechanical sweeping of the flue is essential. It should be carried out at least twice a year, with at least one sweeping during the heating season. A certificate should be issued by the sweeping company after completion of the operation. Following a long period on non-use, check that flues are unobstructed (insect nests for example) before relighting.
