Data Linking
You will n eed a serial dat a link to ru n lig ht s hows of one or m ore fixtur es usi ng a D M X-512 controller
or to run synchronized shows on two or more fixtures set to a master/slave operating mode. The
combined number of channels required by all the fixtures on a serial data link determines the number
of fix tures the data link can support.
Important: Fixtures on a serial data link m ust be dais y chained in one s ingle line. T o comply w ith the EIA-485
Maximum recommended serial data link distance: 500 meters (1640 ft.)

fixtures on one serial data link without the use of a DMX optically-isolated s plitter m ay result in
deterioration of the digital D M X s ignal.
Data Cabling
To link fixtures together you must obtain data cables. You can purchase CHAUVET®-certified DMX
cables directly from a dealer/distributor or construct your own cable. If you choose to create your own

This DMX mode enables the use of a universal DMX controller device. Choose start addresses so that the
channels used do not overlap, and note the start address selected for future reference. Set th e st ar t ad dress
using the group of DIP switches located usually on b ott om of t h e fi xture. Each dip switc h h as an associ at ed
value. Add ing the val u e of eac h s wi tc h in the ON posi ti on w il l provid e the st ar t ad dress. Figuring out which
switches to toggle ON given a specific start address can be accomplished by determini ng which switc h val u es
will add up t o th e address valu e, an d turning th es e s wi tc h es on . Do so by d oing the foll ow i ng :
1) Determine the largest value switch that is less than the start address. Turn this switch on.
2) Subtract the value of the swit c h y ou jus t turned on from the starting address number.
3) Determine the largest value switch that is less than the remainder from the previous subtraction. Turn this
switch on.
4) Subtract the value of the switch you just turned on from the remainder of the previous subtraction.
5) Repeat steps three and four until you have a remainder of zero.

General Maintenance
To maintain optimum performance and minimize wear fixtures should be cleaned frequently. Usage
and environment are contributing factors in determining frequency. As a general rule, fixtures should
be cleaned at least twice a month. Dust build up reduces light output performance and can cause
overheating. This can lead to reduced lamp life and incr eased mech a nical wear. Be sure to pow er off
fixture before c ond uc t in g m ain tenance.
Unplug fixture from power. Use a vacuum or air compressor and a soft brush to remove dust
collect ed on ext ernal ven ts and internal c om p onents. Clean al l gl ass when the fixture is cold with a
mild solution of glass cleaner or Isopropyl Alcohol and a soft lint free cotton cloth or lens tissue. Apply
solution to the cloth or tissue and drag dirt and grime to the outside of the lens. Gently polish optical
surfaces until th e y ar e fr ee of haze and lint .
The clean in g of intern al and extern al op t ical lens es and/ or m irrors mu s t be c arri ed out p eriodically to
optimi z e ligh t output. Cl ean i ng f r equency depends on t h e envi ronment in whic h the fixtu re operat es:
damp, smoky or p art ic u l ar l y dirty surrou nd ing can cause great er accumu l at i on of dirt on the uni t ’s
optics. Clean with soft cloth using normal glass cleaning fluid. - Always dry the pa rts carefully. - Clean
the external optic s at leas t e very 20 days . Clean th e int er n al optics at leas t ev ery 30/60 d ays.
