ATOMIX
Instructions & Warranty
Thank you for purchase of this Atomix Radio Controlled clock. With proper care this precision timepiece will
provide years of accurate time keeping. Radio Controlled technology allows for the most accurate time
keeping available as well as automatic changes for Daylight Saving Timer (DST). Please read these
instructions and store them in a safe place for future reference. Atomix . . . the first name in Radio Controlled
timekeeping.
Features
Receives the 60KHz WWVB signal transmitted by the NIST in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Automatic time & date adjustment once the Radio Controlled (RC) signal has been received
Jumbo time display
Displays Month, Day and Date
Selectable 12 or 24 hour (Military) time display
Easy-to-set buttons
Four Time Zone settings
Temperature display in Celsius or Fahrenheit
Built-in stand for desk use
Battery Insertion / Replacement
Begin by opening the battery compartment cover on the back of the clock.
Insert three AA batteries (not included) into the compartment and make sure the polarity is correct by
following the (+ or -) symbols engraved inside.
Replace the batteries whenever the display becomes dim or difficult to read. Do not mix old and new
batteries or batteries of differing types or brands.
Setting the Time Zone
Slide the TIME ZONE switch on the back of the clock to the correct time zone: Eastern (EST), Central
(CST), Mountain (MST), or Pacific (PST).
The radio control feature will seek out the atomic clock signal daily and update the time on your clock.
Daylight Saving Time
There is a switch labeled DST ON/OFF located on the back of the clock to adjust your clock for
daylight time.
Slide “DST” switch to ON position except if the clock is used in an area without Daylight Saving Time
(i.e. part of Arizona and Indiana)
**Special attention for usage in Arizona and Indiana**
Parts of Arizona and Indiana do not observe Daylight Saving Time (DST). Please slide the “DST” switch to
the OFF position if the clock is used in an area that does not observe Daylight Saving Time.
First reception after installing batteries
The Radio Controlled clock will start to search for the WWVB signal for 10 minutes after installing the
batteries.
In optimal conditions, the correct time will be displayed within 3 to 5 minutes.
The tower and wave icon will keep scrolling after you start the clock. This is normal since this indicates
the radio control circuitry is working.
The 4 “Wave” icons will stop scrolling to indicate successful reception.
Auto mode setting
After installation of batteries or after being reset, the clock will attempt to receive the RC signal
automatically.
If the clock fails to receive the signal in its first reception attempt, it will repeat a reception every hour
until 2:00 AM and go to ‘Automatic time update” mode. If the unit still cannot receive a RC signal after
“Automatic time update” mode, it will search again the next day at 2:00 AM.
Once the RC signal has been successfully received, the unit will automatically update the time by
entering the “Automatic time update” mode each day at 2:00 AM
Automatic time update
The clock will automatically update the time each day at 2:00 AM.
If automatic time update fails, the clock will repeat the update attempt 3 times in the next 3 hours. If the
unit still cannot receive the RC signal, it will search again the next day at 2:00 AM.
Note: It is recommended that for the first use of the clock, you set the clock manually and then allow the
Radio Control signal to update the time setting each day.
Setting the Time Manually
Slide the FUNCTION SELECTOR on the back of the clock to the TIME SET position.
Press the HOUR button on the back of the clock to advance to the correct hour.
Press the MINUTE button on the back of the clock to advance to the correct minute.
Press the 12/24-HOUR button on the back to choose either 12 or 24-hour time display. (In the normal
12-hour format a “PM” will appear on the display during evening hours).
Setting The Date Manually
Your Atomic clock will automatically set the correct date once the signal is received. The date can be
set manually by sliding the FUNCTION SELECTOR to the Calendar position. Then press the MONTH,
DATE and YEAR buttons until the correct date appears on the display. Be sure you are in the correct
AM or PM time since the wrong time will affect the date settings.
Temperature Display
Press _ or _ button to choose either Celsius or Fahrenheit temperature display.
Care of Your Clock
Replace the batteries promptly when necessary and store the clock without batteries when not in use.
Clean your clock with a cloth or paper towel. Do not use corrosive cleanser or chemical solutions on the
clock.
Keep the clock clean and dry to avoid problems.
Avoid putting the clock in a highly humid environment such as poolside or in a bathroom.
Do not expose the clock to direct sunlight or extreme hot or cold temperatures.
Radio Control Feature
Your Radio Controlled clock is an extremely accurate timepiece. It relies on the Atomic Clock operated by
the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Fort Collins, Colorado. The NIST continuously
broadcasts the time signal (WWVB, 60KHz) which can be received anywhere in the continental United States
where long wave (AM) radio reception is possible. The signal can reach approximately 2,000 miles fro the
origin in Colorado.
CAUTION: Your ATOMIX Radio Controlled Clock is a precise instrument and can receive the time signal
anywhere an AM radio signal can be received. Generally the signal cannot be picked up in large concrete or
metal structures unless the clock is located near a window. Your clock reception may also be inhibited by the
following:
Mountains and valleys
Tall buildings
Power lines or high voltage cables
Near the freeway or airports
Near construction sites, traffic lights, neon lights, etc.
Inside concrete buildings or metallic structures
Near electrical appliances (such as a TV or computer)
Bad weather or electrical storms between your location and Colorado
Inside moving vehicles
Updating the Time Manually
You can update the time and start reception of the RC signal by pressing the WAVE button on the bottom of
the clock. However, frequent use of this feature will reduce battery life.
Reset Function (Trouble-shooting)
In some unusual situations, the reception and operation of your clock may be affected by background
interference and respond abnormally. If this occurs, press the RESET button located on the back of the clock
and resume normal clock operation following the instructions again from the beginning.
